“Beautiful house and perfect location, plenty of room for our Family.” Ray and Gwen were great hosts, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We had five people in our group from 7-52 years old, plenty of space to relax together or apart. Beautiful veranda, spacious pool area and well kept gardens to wander through. Exceptionally clean!

“Wonderful Experience in Beautiful Property” We stayed for one week at this property. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a centrally located condo to explore the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. The condo is in the Rio Mar Wyndham resort. The property is very well-maintained. The owner of the condo was extremely responsive and answered all of my questions prior to our arrival. The owner provided a comprehensive document filled with tips, suggestions and recommendations for day trips, restaurants and grocery stores. I used this document a lot both before we arrived and while we were there. I would suggest the day trips to San Juan and El Yunque rainforest. For restaurants, we tried several of the owner's recommendations and none disappointed. Our favorites were Raices (Old San Juan), the Patio del Nispero in the Hotel Convento (old San Juan) and La Parilla (Luquillo kiosk). The condo is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The condo is steps away from the pool and beach. We had a wonderful vacation and hope to come back again!!

“One of the best vacations I've ever had” This villa has two-bedrooms, two-bathrooms, beautiful kitchen, great balcony and comfy living room. It housed ten of us comfortably (1 king sized bed, 2 queen sized beds, 1 full sized bed, 1 futon). The showers were fine - using them both at the same time often decreased water pressure a bit. The kitchen is fully stocked with kitchenware. There are supermarkets on highway 3 not too far from the resort. There is cable and aC so we ended up hanging out in the villa a decent amount. While the beach isn't the prettiest that Puerto Rico has to offer, we definitely got use out of it and spent nearly every day there. The pool area has a kiddie pool, infinity pool, laps pool, and hot tub. This area was is primarily for those living in the villa and was never really crowded. It is also very close to the hotel pool and bar if a renter wishes to interact and meet new people. This area of Puerto Rico is only about a ten minute drive to the Rainforest. My friends and I enjoyed spending a morning/afternoon at El Yunque National Rainforest Park. Such proximity to the rainforest did not provide 24/7 sunshine. We did get rain here and there everyday. San Juan is about a 40-minute drive away, and we ended up going there three times out of our six days - I recommend renting cars (we used Enterprise, and they were great!). This also meant that we decided against "going out" to clubs/bars in San Juan because we would've had to designate drivers to drive back really late at night. From the very first moment we were interested, Diana had been in constant communication with us. She made the whole process of planning our Spring Break so easy and efficient. When we were finally there and settled in at the pool, Jesus came by to introduce himself and welcome us. Then, all ten of us were invited one night to come over to their other property for some drinks and hors d'oeuvres. This was a great experience, and I definitely hope to come back (she'll be the first one I contact).

About Rio Grande

Rio Grande is home to some of Puerto Rico’s biggest beach resorts where you will find manicured grounds and the Trump International Golf Club, home of the Puerto Rican Open.

To find your ideal rental property in the area, visit FlipKey where you will find options to suit your vacation needs.

About Rio Grande

Found on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico, just a 30-minute drive from the capital San Juan, Rio Grande is a secluded area where big-name hotel brands have built properties along the beach front.

Founded in 1840, by Desiderio and Quilimaco Escobar the town is now spread over eight wards with a population of 54,000.

Within a ten-minute drive of Rio Grande, you will find the only tropical rain forest in the United States National Forest System—the El Yunque National Forest.

The rain forest takes up 28,000 acres and contains wild orchids, giant ferns, bamboo and over 240 types of trees. The Tropical Forest Center has informative displays as to what you will find in the park as well as educational films to help you understand what a vital role the Yunque National Forest plays in Puerto Rico’s ecosystem.

What to do in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico

Beach activities together with tennis and golf are the area’s biggest draws. There are over 30 top championship golf courses designed by names like Robert Trent Jones, Greg Norman, and Jack Nicklaus.

For a game of tennis, look no further than the Rio Mar Tennis Center where you will find 17 courts to choose from.

Deep sea fishing and sailing are popular pastimes, too, as are day excursions to at the nearby island of Icacos Cay from the Marina at Puerto del Rel.

For a truly unique experience, go kayaking at night and paddle through the mangroves to a secret lagoon where you can witness the spectacular phenomenon of bioluminescence. This is where the water sparkles with millions of tiny stars as the plankton lights up when touched.

For an inside look into the island’s past connection with slavery, visit the town of Loiza to learn about Afro-Caribbean culture and heritage of Puerto Rico while buying a handcrafted souvenir.

Top travel tips for Rio Grande

Being in the Caribbean, the temperature does not vary by much but the cost of visiting does—the high-season runs from the end of November till the end of March.

Known for their warm hospitality, the locals will welcome you whether you speak the local Spanish or your native English. But your trip can be made all that much nicer if you take the time to learn a few greeting and phrases in Spanish.

Getting around the island is best done by hiring a car or taking a taxi. And while you may be used to getting an UBER back home, they do not have the ride-sharing app in Puerto Rico.

To take advantage of a vacation in Rio Grande, it makes sense to hire a car so that you can visit San Juan for shopping, nightlife, and all the cultural attractions. As for accommodation, just visit FlipKey where you will find a huge selection of rental properties to choose from.

BEACHFRONT,QUIET, BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE
Beautiful condo and beach!

The pictures that are posted don't do this place justice! The condo is just perfect for a couple or those with a few children. It was very clean and beautifully decorated inside. We really enjoyed watching the tame birds come up to us, and the lizards and iguanas in the yard. The building itself is located right next to the beach. It's only a minute walk to the beach! We pretty much had our own private beach everyday. I don't know where everyone was, considering it was spring break. If you like peace, quiet, and just pure relaxation without a lot of tourists or spring-breakers, this is the place for you. It was so nice to sleep with the windows open at night and hear the ocean waves. The weather was so perfect, we never had to put the air on. Maria, the owner, communicated well and was accommodating. The El Yunque rainforest is only a 10-minute drive and is very worth the trip! I would say that the only negatives were that the restaurants nearby were overpriced with poor quality food. The food was extremely bland but edible. I don't know if we just hit the wrong restaurants or if "Authentic Puerto Rican" food always tastes like this. The only restaurant remotely good was "Ritchie's," which was completely open and located on a hilltop overlooking the ocean. It was absolutely gorgeous, and the service was great. Another negative was that there was no where to go in this area for night life, such as nice outdoor bars or beach tiki bars and grills. We just kept wondering where everyone was considering it was spring break. Perhaps this isn't the happening part of the island. We even drove down the street to the Wyndham Hotel and Casino, and there was hardly anyone there either. All in all, the cute condo and stunning, quiet beach and beautiful weather was worth the price of the trip! Would highly recommend this place if that's what you're looking for.see more

Pleasant Christmas Getaway

This was our first experience staying in Puerto Rico for pleasure (I had been there prior times for business). They Wyndham resort (located about 30 minutes east of the airport) is a nice property -- not quite luxurious but it's clean and safe. The gated entry to Rio Mar gives it a feeling of security. The hotel is in need of upgrades (rumor has it that they are about to pour $500M into the resort) but it's in good condition. The restaurants are nice but expensive. We stopped at a Costco near the airport before heading to Rio Mar and then supplemented with groceries at a nearby supermarket (which is owned by Wal*Mart). There are a few off-site restaurants that are worth visiting. The hotel also has a casino that kept our college-age kids entertained. The villa was very nice. I think we were the first tenants. This meant we needed to wash and wipe everything down a bit but we typically do that with our vacation ownership units anyway. The beds were clean and comfortable. The owner, Diana, couldn't have been more accommodating. There were several items that were missing from the unit and they were delivered within 24 hours. We occupied the unit with two families (4 adults, 5 teenage children). It was cozy but not outrageous. The beach outside the villas is nice but could have been cleaner. The hotel obviously has full-time maintenance but it's unclear who is responsible for the beach near the villas. There are lounge chairs by the pools (which are well kept but not meticulous) but only a few for the beach. There was some grounds staff for the villas but you had to search for them. All in all, we had a pleasant experience. The owner Diana was incredibly kind and responsive. I think if the Wyndham goes through with their planned renovation, it will make this spot even more attractive. We did not play golf but the courses looked good (and not very crowded). Assuming there was a 10 point scale, I would give this an 8.5.see more

Hidden Gem!

We landed in SJU and drove straight to the villa with our rental car. Took us 40min to get there. It was very easy to find the resort but little tricky to find the actual villa inside the resort. On the bright side, you are in a world class resort without the resort fee. Additionally, it comes with kitchen and free parking! The kitchen came with utensil, pots, rice cooker etc. So, you can save a lot of money by cooking. This is a 5 star place for the $ you pay. The owner was very helpful with our plans. She recommended places to go snorkeling and we had an amazing experience. In summary, great view, great atmosphere, fantastic location and comfortable beds. This place have everything you need to have a relaxing getaway.see more
Private Beachfront Villa at Wyndham Rio Mar Resort
We've rented this villa twice and plan to do so again next yea

We rented this unit in 2012, again in 2013, and will return in 2014! The villa complex location, the villa's balcony and ocean view, the proximity to both the beach and the pools is superb; the condo is very clean, comfortable, and well-equipped; Beatrice, the owner, is reliable, responsive, and makes the renting process quick and convenient. The entire villa complex is also clean, safe, and seemingly never crowded. Additionally, the Rio Grande area has much to offer, including grocery stores and interesting restaurants. This all adds up to an incredibly relaxing experience, and makes for a truly fun vacation. 5 Stars!see more
#1 Rated Rental in PR! Coquis Hideaway @ El Yunque
The ideal vacation place!

We were two couples, veteran travelers, who enjoy hiking and exploring what an area has to offer. We avoid gated communities and structured tours. We stayed six days at this beautiful and unusual location. The experienced was perfect for our needs. First, this is a place you truly enjoy when returning after a day of sightseeing or hiking. The high location hugs the tropical rainforest providing a vista of the coast, islands and on the horizon, San Juan. It is magnificent, especially while sitting on our private veranda reading, having a drink or a meal. It was so captivating that I was happy to spend time at our private hideaway rather than trying to take in all the advertised sights and experiences. I especially enjoyed walking the property's 9 acres of lawns and tropical vegetation including tropical fruits, palm trees, orchids and every conceivable fruit and flower. Gwen and Ray, our hosts provided us with the tropical fruits from their beautiful property and let us pick what we liked. How nice to have hosts who adorn your quarters with a vase of bird-of-paradise and other tropical flowers. Every need was provided for. The accommodations were roomy and spotless and beautifully and tastefully decorated. The full kitchen and dining area were convenient and spotless, as was the entire complex. The pool for our personal use was very handy. I can go on and on about the quality of the property, but the jewel in this crown were the hosts. Gwen and Ray were there to answer our questions, suggest activities and provide background information on the area. Where do you find a host who will show you how to crack a coconut properly? Explain a tropical fruit? Where the best beach is and where to park when you get there? How to best see Old San Juan? There are people who know first hand all the tourist offering on the island and are happy to assist. And we didn't have to share these wonderful hosts because Coquis is a one unit hideaway. Their hospitality made this one of our most memorable vacations. We will be back to Puerto Rico.see more
