The Captain's Cabin a is totally new, one bedroom construction, that sits on the edge, literally, of the St. Croix River in Robbinston, Maine and overlooks historic St. Croix Island and neighboring New Brunswick, Canada. This is a very private two/three person cabin located 2/10 of a mile(.32km) from U.S. Rte. 1. It has one queen bed and a cot to accomodate a third person. The Captain's Cabin is great for honeymooners, artist's and writer's retreats, those recuperating from job stress or health issues, hiking enthusiasts, kayak explorers, or just a great place for a quiet vacation. At high tide the St. Croix River is just outside your window and the only noises are gull cries, duck chatter, laughing loons, and seal groans from the island in the distance. It is fully equipped for your weekly or monthly enjoyment including DirecTv. Just bring your food and drink. Rental includes one or more lobster trapping trips on the river with Captain Louis, your host. Sorry, no pets.
The Cabin is 10 miles(16km) south of Calais, Maine where three bridges connect the U.S. to our neighbor, Canada.(bring your passport) Calais is the shopping center of eastern Washington County and has many amenities including a hospital, several churches, library, swimming pool, food and retail stores, and restaurants. A boat launch is available 2 miles south of the cabin. Kayaks can be launched directly onto the beach. Deep sea fishing and whale watching are available in Eastport 20 miles(32km) to the south. The St. Croix Country Club in Calais, 9 holes, is the eastern most golf course in the U.S.A. There are three courses near-by in Canada.
The St. Croix River next to the cabin is salt water and has the greatest rise and fall of tides in the continental U.S. averaging 28 feet every 6 hours.(approx. 1 inch per minute) One can swim in the water but it is quite cool. There are several lakes in the area for swimming and great bass and perch fishing. On clear nights, star gazing is excellent since there is no light pollution in the area. The full moon rises over Canada to the southeast and is quite spectacular. Being in the cabin at high tide makes one feel like they are in a cruise ship cabin but without the motion. “You can sail with Captain Morgan and never leave dry land.”

Stayed here the first part of July and didn't want to leave when my week was up. Cabin is brand new and spotless. Perfect for 1 or 2 people. The whole experience was very easy. Could have taken day trips to area points of interest, however I chose to just relax, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy all the sights and sounds of the St. Croix river.

My 8 year old son and I spent the last week of June at the Captains's Cabin. It's a wonderful little cabin with absolutely stunning views!!!
During low tide, you can view the beautiful rocky coastline of the St. Croix river while beach combing for sea glass and shells. We spent hours down on the beach looking for treasures and lifting up seaweed and rocks in hopes to find little green crabs!!
During high tide, the water comes right up to the edge of the cabin...it almost feels like your on a house boat!! We loved being greeted by a family of ducks that would swim by the window every morning. One day during low tide, we even saw a couple of deer down on the beach!!
We enjoyed our days relaxing and taking some trips to Eastport, Maine and to St. Andrews, New Brunswick in Canada (don't forget your passports!!). At night, we had bonfires on the beach and made s'mores!!
The owner is very gracious and quickly provided us with anything we needed. The trip on his lobster boat was my son's favorite!! He enjoyed watching Captain Louis pull his traps and eagerly waited to see if there would be a lobster in one...he loved it!!!
The Captain's Cabin is a wonderful place to stay if you want to experience Maine and all it has to offer. We loved it and can't wait to stay there again next year!!
