Additional Location Information

Roccascalegna is a traditional and beautiful town and is only a few minutes away from The Olive House Italy. There are three bars, a pharmacy, a supermarket, three newsagents, a florist, a hairdressers, a barkers, a butchers, a pizzeria and numerous restaurants serving traditional Italian high quality food and drink, in huge quantities, at great prices!

The town is in a valley right of the Rio Secco, a tributary of the Aventino river, midway between the Apennines mountains and the golden beaches of the Adriatic sea. Arriving here from the highway "Fondo Valle Sangro", you will be astonished at the sight of the castle, rising like a precious jewel encased inside the green hills covered with Mediterranean vegetation- which us llinked to a bloody event: the murder of the most cruel, devil-like, violent baron of the castle, Corvo de Corvis, killed by the people of the village in his own castle. Historically, the Baron was at times identified with Annibale Corvi or with a man of the Carrafa family, but in truth his existence is enveloped in the legendary mist of past times.

There is also a famous Abbey, San Pancrazio, established by Benedictine monks in the ninth century AD as a dependence San Liberatore a Majella, then in 1176 Pope Alessandro III signed a bill that moved the Abbey to the jurisdiction of San Giovanni in Venere.

We have festas all year round including the festa for the town patron saint Rita, which takes place in May, a music festa in August and food festa in September, where the town people give out free food and drink this is just a small selection of the festas going on the town!
