You can have a selection of DVD and few books are available in the library, both for adults and children. Internet WiFi free.We are located in Monteverde Vecchio district (or "Green Hill from the greenish tint of the tuff of which is made the hill). This leafy urban quarter at the shoulder of the Janiculum Hill,is universally acknowledged as one of the most elegant and desirable to live in the Ethernal City. Monteverde Vecchio views have made it the star of film sets and photo shoots.
It is perfectly located:central enough to be a 30 minutes walk from Campo de Fiori, yet suburban enough to feel removed from the the urban chaos, smog and noise.Monteverde Vecchio is one of the best place to take a break from hot, dusty sight-seeing and frantic, traffic dodging walk in the centre.
Thanks to the huge Villa Pamphili,Villa Sciarra and Janiculum Hill, the green reservoir of the quarter, the air is visibly fresher and less polluted even compared with Trastevere just a ten minutes walk away downhill. The traffic is mainly local, with good parking facilities. The public transport is good and allows you to easily reach Piazza Venezia, the very historic city center and Termini Station.
Open air cafe and bars and ice cream shops are plenty. The quarter's fine town houses, predominantly from the 19th and 20th centuries, are well built and spacious, many with gardens.Few will disagree that the quarter is among the most beautiful residential areas in Rome.
It's a fact that those who come to live here, hardly goes away.Monteverde Vecchio is a multilingual neighborhood .Many foreign institutions such as American Academy,American University of Rome,Institutum Romanum Norvegiae have been established here.John Cabot University is nearby.
The neighborough's umpararelled green areas, food and craft shops, open air markets and community spirit render its quality of life enviable. It is lofty yet never haughty, and exclusive yet approachable:in other words unique.
Monteverde Vecchio and surrounings offers great sights not to be missed:
§TRASTEVERE.Trastevere still maintains its character through the winding streets covered with cobblestones which is overlooked by medieval houses . The night is filled with people, both Italian and foreign, thanks to the wealth of restaurants and pubs for every price range.
§JANICULUM HILL. It is intersting to note that Rome's highest and most scenic hill does not officially feature among the proverbial seven. The site of one of Italy's most decisive battles for indipendence(1848 AD),the Janiculum Hill or Gianicolo has unparalleled views of Rome.According to the 18th century diarist De Brosses ,a French admirer of all things Italian,it was sufficient in itself to justify a visit to Italy. You can see many of the major Rome's monuments in one eyeful. Seen from the Janiculum,Rome displays the iridescent colors of her incredible plumage like a peackok:a living postcard, all the roofs, the cupolas, all the bell towers and the sights are sharply define in the clear sky, with the profile of the Roman Castle hills in the background. At noon the cannon blast shatters quiet to commemorate the battles of indipendence and the hundred bells of churches echo through the sky.
A marble light house,Manfredi, donated by the Italian emigrants of Argentina(1911AD)and flashing the three colors of the italian flag, rises next to an alternative Gianicolo wiewpoint,a stone's throw from Mrs Garibaldi monument.Standing here one can take in most of Trastevere in all its sepia and ochre glory and beyond. In the days before mobile phone, the wives of the convicts confined within Regina Coeli prison(visible from this part of the hill)would shout messagges to their spouses below.
TEMPIETTO DEL BRAMANTE:One not to be missedis Bramante's iconic Tempietto,or little temple, recognized by the art historian the world over as a ptototype of the perfect Reinessance building.Located within the courtyard of the Church of San Pietro in Montorio next to the Spanish Academy,it allegedly rises above the location of Saint Peter's crucifixion.
§ FONTANA SELL'ACQUA PAOLA:"The great Beauty-La Grande Bellezza” directed by Paolo Sorrentino is set in the spaces of the Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, also known as Il Fontanone ("The big fountain") .This is is a monumental fountain located on the Gianicolo. It was built in 1610-12 to mark the end of the Acqua Paola acqueduct, restored by Pope Paul V, and took its name from him. It was the first major fountain on the left bank of the River Tiber. The fountain was designed by Giovanni Fontana. They used white marble from the nearby ruins of the Roman Temple of Minerva in the Forum of Nerva, and constructed a massive gateway of five arches for the arrival of the water. At the top of the fountain are the papal tiara and keys, above the Borghese family coat of arms of an eagle and a dragon, supported by angels. The inscription praises Pope Paul in poetic terms for bringing water to the residents of the district.
It was built to resemble a triumphal arch.A taste of what the top of Janiculum Hill has in store in terms of breathaking views can already be admired from here.
§ VILLA PAMPHILI:The Villa Doria Pamphili, with its 184 hectares, is the largest and most important park of the city of Rome. Weary sight seers, famiglie, joggers, dog owners or anyone just looking to soak up some peace and quiet, will delight in the proximity of South East Rome's green “lung” Villa Pamphili. The magnificent park's entrance,Porta San Pancrazio is under 5 minutes walk from Janiculum. With its perimeter measuring over 9 km,it is yet another artistic architectural remainder of Rome's glorious Baroque past. The villa was once the private estate of Prince Camillo Pamphili,a nephew of Pope Innocent X.LAid out in the mid 17th century by Algardi its epicentre is the imposing sky-blue and cream stately home,Casino del Belrespiro, its formal maze hedge garden dotted with citrus trees in terracotta pots.A secluded spot for a picnic under the ancient parasol pine trees,a jogging path or an artificial lake yelding many a treat for the children is always close at hand here.
