Waterfront Town & Country Home on St. Helena Sound
Description from the owner
Slip back in time on your drive to ‘Lili,’ our waterfront, private getaway located on St. Helena Sound. The entrance to our private residence includes a half-mile drive on the Avenue of Oaks, listed on the National Register of Historic places. Pass by the original, antebellum plantation home (circa1800) once the center of Coffin Point, a prestigious, pre-Civil War cotton plantation. Your next right turn is home, a secluded two-story private residence, nestled in a continuum of ancient, Live Oak trees and joined with lush plantings and seasonal flowers on three sides with a spectacular view of the Sound, sunrise to sunset - your constant companion 100 yards away complete with sound and breeze affects. If the trees could speak, one could only imagine the stories over a hundred-year history would reveal. It is here where our guests indulge in the best of both worlds, the natural beauty of the intracoastal waterways and the surrounding densely wooded countryside of St. Helena Sound in the elegant comforts of an uptown home.
Inside our home, guests enjoy furnishings that have been lovingly appointed by the owners that include extensive renovations by master craftsmen and local artisans. This home was been custom designed to be enjoyed by friends and family whether on retreat or special occasions.
Lili comes with a dramatic and secluded natural waterfront, a spacious lawn, bordered by native plantings and shaded by a Live Oak forest canopy.
Windows open to expansive, scenic views, ever-reminding our guests of the exceptional natural surroundings.
The colors and textures of natural materials native to the lowcountry, are mirrored inside the home in fine decor. The ceilings have been raised to expose huge, wooden beams acquired from a local cotton mill. The comfy and classic furnishings suggest colors of the sea, land and sky - soft, inviting, plush and soothing. The copper counters in the gourmet kitchen were added for serious cooking and easy clean up. The line between inside and out is consciously blurred providing plenty of open space, large windows room by room allowing access to life at the seashore with all five senses.
Coffin Point's beachfront is a natural seashore manicured only by the ocean and its contents - twice daily. It's the real deal, rugged with tons of shells, chord grasses and other saltwater, hardy gifts. Teaming with sea life, this beach is not groomed for swimming but rather exploring, clamming, shelling, fishing and hiking. If you want to swim, take our beach towels, chairs & water toys or rent a kayak, surf board etc ...and head to neighboring Hunting Island State Park. It's an easy 10 minute drive.
At either beachfront ours or the State Park's, it is common to see and hear dolphin, working shrimp boats and a range of seabird action. What is truly wonderful about living by the sea, is experiencing the changes hour by hour, day by day, week by week.
While at home, you can enjoy both front or back covered patios; oversized deck chair seaside or rocking chairs forrest side or put on your walking, biking or jogging attire to explore the beachfront or extensive dirt roads throughout the quiet, residential neighborhood.
Cooking is meant to be fun and easy in this home. All grocery needs can be satisfied within a 10-minute drive with neighboring fish markets, marinas, fresh vegetable farms, grocery stores and quickstop markets.
Local restaurants and chefs offer catered services while a short drive, increases options to five-star cuisine in town as well as casual dinning at most local diners -- that feature local seafood. Some have recipes passed down through the generations from neighboring farms and docks.
Local favorites include Boondocks, Johnson Creek Tavern, Gullah Grub, Sand Dollar, Foolish Frog and The Shrimp Shack (referenced in Pat Conroy’s cookbook) Each have their own specialties.
A wide variety of touring opportunities throughout the region include art & culture to serious shopping. For outdoor adventure we recommend Hunting Island State Park, a 10-minute drive away - where you will find five miles of swimming/surfing beachfront - without the traditional residential over-development. Swimming, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding and a variety of fishing gear can be coordinated at the Park's nature center – plus special family activities planned throughout the summer months.
At Hunting, thousands of acres of gorgeous marsh views, tidal creeks, and a dense maritime forest provide an abundant wildlife viewing experience that is becoming rare along our developed coastlines.
Downtown Historic Beaufort is another favorite destination - less than 20 minute drive. In-town destinations include Port Royal, Parris Island and the Marine Corp Air station Military bases and a bit further and over a few more bridges you can reach Hilton Head Island, Charleston and Savannah in a little over an hour drive....Read more
