Here you’re never far from St George’s Bay, a lovely sandy beach suitable for, swimming and snorkeling. You can try your hand at other water sports too, including sailing, water skiing, paragliding, wake boarding, jet biking and kayaking.

There are some fantastic spots to explore to, making it ideal for hiking, horseback riding and cycling, while the promenade that leads toSliema is popular with joggers. Sports enthusiasts are catered for too, with an 18-hole golf course at the Royal Malta Golf Club in Marsa. This same club also offers miniature golf, swimming, tennis and squash.

Visitors will also find many places to dine in the area, including restaurants, bars and cafés. There are some great shops located here too, whether you’re in need of groceries or just some retail therapy.

St Julian’s and Paceville are the islands’ main nightspots, with several clubs, casinos and bars. Both towns also have fascinating buildings to discover too, including the historic Giovanni SpinolaComplex, built in 1658. Villa Dragonara is another fine example of local architecture; it has beautiful sea views and today houses a popular casino.

Generally, Malta is warmest during July and August, when the average temperature is around 32°C. January and February are the coolest, with an average high of 16°C and low of 10°C. There is very little rainfall in Malta, especially during the summer. November and December are usually the wettest, with an average of 111mm of rainfall each.

Malta International Airport (MLA) is the only airport in Malta and receives flights all year round from many cities. Air Malta, the national carrier, flies to and from Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Birmingham, Brussels, Catania, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hamburg, Istanbul, London, Manchester, Milan, Moscow, Munich, Paris, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Sofia, Stuttgart, Tripoli, Vienna and Zürich. St Julian’s Bay and Paceville are an approximate 25 minute drive from the airport and there are car rental services and taxis available on arrival.

You can go on all sorts of trips from Marsascala, but should definitely start with one to the capital, Valletta where you can see all sorts of historic buildings, palaces, churches, museums and galleries. Visitors may also like to visit the coastal resorts of St Paul’s Bay and Bugibba in the north of the island, where there is lots to see and do. Meanwhile, Victoria is the main town on the island of Gozo and is well worth a visit.
