We are a family of 2 adults and one teenage son and stayed in a ground floor apartment with one double bedroom and a sofa in the open living area that can be used as a single bed. That single bed sofa meant that it was not very comfortable for the three of us to sit down in the living area, and my son reported that it was not the most comfortable. The apartment was very clean and has a good bathroom with shower (although water saving seems to be a big deal in Salzburg, so it is not the most powerful).
It is about a 15 minute or so walk through the tunnel to get to the main city centre attractions. This was just as we expected, although after a full day of sightseeing and in the pouring rain, it felt rather long!
If you are not planning to stay in the apartment much (because you are there to visit the city), then it works very well. If you are staying for more than a couple of days and think you may be spending some time in the apartment, then you may find it a little cramped.
While there is a kitchenette and kitchen bar with stools, you are unlikely to be able to do much cooking given the available space and equipment, nor would you be comfortable sitting for long at the bar. It was certainly adequate for our needs since we ate out for all our meals.
