Tykhe is part of a seafront apartment complex located in the village of Karavomylos just a few kilometres from the bustling port of Sami.
Superbly located in front of a eucalyptus tree lined beach with views across the bay of Sami to the island of Ithaca on the horizon. My apartment Tykhe (pronounced tie-key, the Greek goddess of good fortune) has a stunning view from the patio across the swimming pool to the sea, from here you can unwind with a Greek salad and a bottle of the local Robola wine.

Beachside Apartment near Sami, Kefalonia, Greece Sami, Ionian Islands, Greece
Additional Location Information
You will see various spellings of the name but don’t get confused, they all refer to the same island.
You will probably see variations of village names as well. Our village is called Karavomylos or Karavomilos, a pretty sea front village about 2km from the port of Sami.
Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian islands off the west coast of mainland Greece.
The more well known islands include Corfu and Zante (Zakynthos), but in my opinion Kefalonia remains the prettiest and least developed. It is quintessentially Greek, the local people are extremely accommodating, very friendly and welcoming to all visitors.
The island is ideal for just about everyone however you want to spend your time, whether that’s total relaxation by just laying in the sunshine under blue skies or a full activity holiday with swimming, water sports, horse riding, boating, scuba diving, snorkelling, hiking and sightseeing.
The island is blessed with beautiful beaches from the award winning beaches of Myrtos and Antisamos to the sandy beaches of Skala, Lassi. Lixouri and Xi. You will find many small bays with pebble beaches and easy swimming areas.
Antisamos beach is about 6-7km from Karavomylos with a pure white pebble beach, crystal clear blue water and 2 tavernas where you can get a refreshing drink, lunch and an early evening meal.
The most famous beach on Kefalonia is Myrtos about a 30 minute drive from Karavomylos, the views are stunning from high on the cliffs as you head down to sea level.
The village of Karavomylos is located on the east side of the island, conveniently located about half way between Fiscado in the north and Skala in the south.
It has a small square and tavern, mini market and bakers, its very own house museum and the Kravomylos lake tavern just 2 minutes away ideal for lunch where you can feed the ducks and geese on the lake and listen to the water wheel being turned by the freshwater as it runs from under the island to the lake and out to sea.
You can swim from the beach right outside the apartment complex or if you take a pleasant walk along the coastline towards Sami you will find more organised beaches.
The port of Sami is just a 15-20min walk along the coast or a 5min drive. Here you will find many seafront tavernas, a few bars and coffee shops, souvenir shops, supermarket, post office, jewellers, butcher, pharmacy and the medical centre.
Here you can catch the car ferry to the island of Ithaca or Homer’s Ithaca for the day or longer. The beautiful island boasts stunning scenery, beaches and towns. The main town of Vathy or Ithaki has one of the world’s largest natural harbours. Alternatively why not take a day trip on the Sami Star, which will take you to Ithaca for lunch in Vathy and swimming in a couple of its fabulous bays.
Other attractions in the area include the Mellissani underground lake about 500m along the main road towards Ag. Efimia, the stunning Drogarati cave with stalactites and stalagmites about 3.5km away.
Agia Efimia is a pretty sailing port about 15min drive north around the coast road with shops and restaurants.
Mount Ainos/Enos is the highest point on the island with stunning views of the island, Ithaca and Zante.
Argostoli is the capital located on the western side of the island with plenty of shops and restaurants and where you can watch the local fishermen preparing the catch of the day. If you are lucky you will see loggerhead turtles swimming around the bay. The ferry goes to Lixouri for a very pleasent day trip.
How to get here
There are many direct flights from the UK (Easyjet, Ryanair, Thompson & Thomas Cook) and from mainland Europe. Ferries also arrive from Patras, Kallini, Brindisi, Bari and Ancona.
Argostoli airport is about 35km from the apartment and will take about 45min to drive.
There are taxis available at the airport and will cost about 55/60 euros. Alternatively you can pre-book a hire car from the airport. I have detailed instructions of the route if you require them.
