PROPERTY DESCRIPTION "Wonderfully unique" - just two words that only touch on the elegance and wonder that this unit invokes. Designed by the world-renown architect James Francis Dunn in 1890, the building itself is a main focal point of both tourists and residents alike. Only 1 block from Alamo Square Park and the famous "Painted Ladies" housing row, this apartment is in the heart of downtown San Francisco. However inside is where your stay in San Francisco truly becomes exceptional. This 7-room unit features elegant rooms, high ceilings with wood beams spanning across the living room, hardwood floors throughout, and wool area rugs. A wonderful mix of both modern and antique furnishings adds the perfect touch to this unit's design, as do the stained glass windows found throughout the apartment. Both bedrooms are set very far apart ensuring privacy within your party. The kitchen is complete with beautiful wood cabinets and is sunny and spacious. There is a large family style kitchen table along with a dining table for those quiet dinners at home, or you can enjoy the evening on the quaint garden patio. The unit also offers a backyard with two ancient Sequoia redwood trees. Your stay at this beautiful unit will not be forgotten! It has been said of this building that it is "one of three of the most significant architectural dwellings in San Francisco". "If San Francisco is the Rome of the colorist Movement, Alamo Square is the Vatican. The Square is the heart of the greatest collection of Painted Ladies and one of the most important collections of Victorian buildings in the world. Although it doesn't have a Saint Peter's, it does have an Archbishop Mansion." This Mansion is located a block away from the "Belle" facing Alamo Square park and just up 1/2 a block are the famous "Seven Sisters" seen in every collection of photos depicting San Francisco. 1347-45 McAllister Street was designed by James Francis Dunn, started in early 1898 and completed at the end of 1900. It was built in the French neo-Baroque style as a tribute to the owner's great love, an opera diva from Paris. He had 2 "Juliet"(as in Shakespeare's Juliet) balconies constructed that are similar to the Paris Opera House boxes even today. The front of the building has 4 winged mermaids and Grecian urns of mythological significance surrounding the 2 huge oval windows at the very top of the building, behind which is a grand ballroom with a panoramic view of downtown San Francisco all the way to Mt. Diablo across the Bay Bridge, as well as weary gods holding up the eves, and finally museum worthy stained glass sea shell windows with gems spilling out over the balconies. The entry way is a huge tortoise shell with a ruby heart above it said to be "like the piece that frames m'lady-in-waiting at the French court". The building is a feature on the Double Decker bus tourists route, as well as walking tours of S.F., and is to be found in coffee table books on San Francisco architecture, magazines, and newspaper articles. The "Belle" survived the great 1906 quake as it is built on bed rock. Look up James Francis Dunn for more photos and other unique buildings he erected in San Francisco during his career. I spent 4 days with my family at Mcallister B and highly recommend it. Our apartment was in a beautiful historic residence near the top end of Mcalister. Public transport was right out front and it was a short walk to restaurants, cafes, local shopping and the sights. Excellent information was available in the apartment.
Our neighbours in Mcallister were very friendly and although we didn't meet our hosts they were excellent in providing everything we needed. We will definitely come back.

It is a fairly large and elegant apartment where we (2 adults and 3 teenagers) stayed for 6 days. We had a great stay as there is a very pleasant atmosphere in the apartment. The apartment has a good location in the city by public transport on your doorstep and shopping nearby. You can walk to the center in half an hour and there are interesting neighborhoods in walking distance. There are also good running routes in the area. San Francisco is a city you always want to revisit.

We thank you for a superb stay in the apartment!
This is not only a flat...it is a piece of art and history.
Many people stop and take photos of this house.
The owner has a sence of combining "new" and old interior decoration
and we realy liked it.
It is simple to get to the city center with bus nr 5 that runs often and the area feels safe and friendly. Alamo Squere is right around the corner.

Really enjoyed our stay at the apartment... beautifully presented with tonnes of SF characteristic. Just a short bus ride to downtown and handy little organic grocery store a few blocks up the street, with a good pizza joint for those lazy nights.
Correspondence with Bernat is simply brilliant - no fuss or hassle no delay. Would definitely stay there again given the opportunity to visit beautiful SF in the future and have no hesitation recommending it to all our friends.

I rented this apartment for a 6 day stay to celebrate my mom's birthday. The apartment and building are quite fun and we had all we needed. The experience was just what I was looking for.
Three of us stayed for 6 days and 2 friends joined us for 2 of those days. The space worked well no matter how many people we had over. One evening, I hosted a pre-dinner cocktail party for 14 and we had plenty of glassware, serving dishes and kitchenware. The oven worked well for hors d'oeuvres.
On two nights we were tired from the day and ordered in. Little Star Pizza (restaurant pizza, not Dominos-style) and the Indian place that had left a menu on the door were both outstanding.
The WiFi was a little hit or miss. The modem is in another apartment that you don't have access to, but that being said, I called management and someone was there to help in 5 minutes. I was very impressed with the service.
The beds and furniture are comfy, clean, stylish. I would stay here again.

I just got back from a fantastic vacation with my wife and two sons. The apartment was a great base for exploring San Francisco. It is really well located, most of the major sights are within 20 min with public transportation. You can also walk to Alamo Square Park, Haight Ashbury and the Golden Gate Park. There are nice restaurants and cafes on Filmore St and the Divisadero Av. The apartment, located in a real Victorian building, is clean and well-equipped. I would definitely recommend staying at this apartment to my friends and family.
