We stayed at La Pergola just on the outskirts of San Gimignano. When we arrived we were welcomed by the wonderful family who live above the property. Massimo, the owner's son, and Metella and Pietro were incredibly welcoming and made us feel very much at home in their property. The apartment, the downstairs of a large Tuscan-style farm house, was perfect. Small kitchen and sitting area, a very good size double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, it perfectly suited our needs. Whilst our young child was sleeping in the afternoon or evening, we could very safely just sit out on the pretty pergola, where we were surrounded by amazing vines and incredible rolling Tuscan countryside! The apartment has a very well-equipped kitchen and dining room. The master bedroom is spacious, and is kept cool in the day by the large shutters. There's no a/c but the apartment is shuttered on all sides and kept at a comfortable temperatureThe owners provided us with a cot for our child which we moved into the dining area so as not to disturb her by my husband's snoring! The private pool was very clean and perfectly suited our needs, with some good poolside furniture. The apartment is situated on a working farm - chickens (can be quite noisy with the cockerels crowing first thing in the morning, but we quickly got used to it and really quite enjoyed the outdoor sounds), pigs, vineyard, fruit and vegetable are all grown there. The owners were very kind in dropping off small gifts of produce grown on the farm. They have a lovely friendly dog who became best friends with our young daughter. Although the owners spoke very little English, and us very little Italian, they were only too happy to converse with us in whatever small bits of language we both understood! They kept themselves to themselves but were very happy to have a little chat with us and be entertained by our daughter! We were made to feel very at home and it felt like we were saying goodbye to new found friends when we left.

Arrived at 9pm - not a sign of a welcome pack - empty fridge & larder. Being very hungry we then had to make up our own bed when we finally discovered the sheets & pillow cases in a plastic bag at the bottom of the wardrobe.
Everthing was very basic and seemed to be done on a shoe string - even what looked like grass round the pool in the web photos turned out to be plastic. Never again!
La Pergola is a simple property as described, its great highlight is that it has its own swimming pool, and that it is very close (walking distance) to the lovely town of san Gimignano. So perfect for 2 persons wanting their own pool and to be close to town. The owners live in a the other half of the house and are very friendly but do not intrude on your privacy.
Even though La Pergola has these great features it is very reasonably priced for what it offers. The price does though reflect the fact that the property is simple accomodation, however it is comfortable, clean and well maintained. We have been renting this property for many many years and are guests are usually very happy with it.
We do not provide welcome packs as we have found that people prefer to shop themselves for what they want and usually arrive in time to do so. In most of our properties we can organise a 'first shop' with essentials in most places if requested beforehand.
It is usual in rental properties for the beds not to be made up. This is due to laws in Italy which restrict what kind of services rentals can or can't provide. Private or smaller properties for example like La pergola are actually not allowed to make up beds, whereas larger residences can. Many of our clients appreicate the fact that the linen comes in sealed packs as that way they can see it has been freshly laundered.

Accommodation was basic, clean and comfortable. Location was excellent. San Giminagno is an interesting town with a great restuarant (Il Chiribiri - small, so best to book).Ideal base for places such as Volterra and Sienna, although not having a car might be inconvenient. Great for bird life - bee eaters, serins, little owl, turtle doves all seen from patio. Amazing butterflies. All in all, good time, good value.
