Il Podere is the perfect example of a Tuscan country villa, it is surrounded by mature gardens and has a large private swimming pool with a fantastic panorama of the surrounding countryside. Incredibly although the villa is immersed in all this peace and tranquillity, medieval San Gimignano, which is a joy to explore, is only 10 minutes walk away.
The original house dates back to 1600's and has recently been immaculately restored to its original splendour. Now divided into two parts, both have been delightfully furnished to a very high standard including many antique pieces and family heirlooms. Characteristic fireplaces form the centrepieces of spacious lounges, and well equipped kitchens invite you to prepare delicious meals.
The private garden which surrounds the villa is immaculately maintained with lawns, mature trees, and flowering plants and enjoys a fine panorama. Perfect for dining alfresco or just enjoying a chilled glass of 'Vernaccia di San Gimignano' whilst enjoying the essence of the Tuscany. The perfectly placed swimming pool (12m x 6m) overlooks the olive groves, and is framed by a paved terrace and lawns. It is a lovely spot for relaxing and enjoying a swim after a busy days sightseeing. Guests are free to wander the 10 acre estate which is perfect for country walks and the town San Gimignano with its selection of shops and restaurants is easily reachable on foot.
The ground floor of the villa, has a comfortably furnished lounge, and a large kitchen both of which open onto the garden and two characteristic bedrooms which open onto the side garden areas. There are also two shower rooms. The first floor of the villa, is only a few steps from its garden as the house is built unusually on a slope. Its comfortable lounge is very cosy and there is a large kitchen with an unusual antique round marble table. There are two characteristic bedrooms, one with four poster bed, the other with two single beds which opens onto a small balcony, and two bathrooms.
The two levels are connected via the garden making the villa perfect for larger parties whilst retaining privacy. There is a communal laundry room, barbecue, and WiFi internet connection is also available at a small local charge. The friendly owners have a small detached cottage on the estate which they occasionally use. Parking is in the grounds below the house.
When you can tear yourself away from this idyllic country retreat, the medieval hilltop towns of Colle di Val dElsa and Volterra famous for its alabaster are within half an hour's drive, whilst both Siena and Florence are easily accessible via road, or nearby bus and rail links. San Gimignano can be reached on foot or by local shuttle bus that runs every hour and stops 300m from the property.

An extremely well maintained villa (originally a Tuscan farm house - now separated into two: 2 bedroomed units each with own kitchen/dining and living areas) set in large private grounds, comprising olive groves and manicured lawns with a swimming pool and views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside. Extremely clean and fully equiped. San Gimignano was very conveniently located - a short walk away. The owners were truly delightful, genuine, friendly hosts and always available with local recommendations and advice. Would highly recommend this villa.

We have visited Tuscany on many occasions and decided to introduce it to some of our friends. Eventually we chose Villa Il Podere and were thoroughly pleased. On arrival the villa was even more beautiful than we imagined. The location was perfect, we wanted to be in the countryside but close enough to the town of San Gimignano to be able to walk to it. This villa fitted the bill perfectly. The owners were wonderful, the grounds immaculate and the swimming pool in a lovely position. For friends travelling together it was perfect, being in two 'halves' as it were and a bathroom to every bedroom there was enough privacy, yet a there was plently of room for us all to get together. There were plenty of shady spots in the garden for just reading a book quietly for a bit of 'my time' if you wanted it. The interiors of the villa were very comfortable. What we most enjoyed was being able to wander into town on foot although some of us cheated a bit and went half way on the shuttle bus which ran nearby the property and took the effort out of the last uphill bit! Last but not least it's a good base from which to explore. Centrally placed in Tuscany so not too much long driving needed for sight seeing, We went to the nearby town by car and caught the bus to Florence and Siena so as to avoid parking difficulties and traffic. Definately a good idea. All in all its actually a place we would return to.
