Perfectly poised between the vast Pacific Ocean and the mellow Sea of Cortez, San Jose del Cabo is a small oceanfront city in Mexico's Baja peninsula. Smaller than the neighboring city, Cabo San Lucas, San Jose is a laid-back alternative for your Baja California vacation. For rest and relaxation, San Jose del Cabo can't be beat. There are numerous beautiful beaches for sunbathing around the city, as well as many more fantastic strips of sand on the famous corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Ocean sports are popular here, from swimming and snorkeling to jet skiing and parasailing. You can also ride a horse along the beach or learn to surf one of Baja's beginner breaks.
When you need a break from the surf and sand, do some shopping in San Jose del Cabo's charming downtown district, which is filled with colonial style houses and a pretty central church. In the tranquil streets around Plaza Mijares, San Jose's main square, you will find galleries, boutiques, Mexican craft shops, and fabulous restaurants. Seafood and fish tacos are a specialty of the region, where marlin, halibut, and tuna are caught fresh daily from the deep sea. Many of Baja's visitors also take a day to explore the unique ecosystems in the surrounding desert, heading out for hikes, sightseeing tours, or off-road adventures.
Baja California is one of the world's top sport fishing destinations, with a deep cold sea filled with marine life. Hire a charter to see if you can catch one of the region's famous marlin. If you'd rather spend your time observing marine life, head out for a whale watching tour in the Pacific Ocean.
If you are planning a trip to San Jose del Cabo, be sure to add these destinations to your itinerary:
-San Jose Estuary: Fresh water from the San Jose River meets the shore at this lovely protected estuary, a wonderful place for bird watching.
-Playa Costa Azul: This pretty stretch of white sand is one of San Jose's most popular beaches, as well as one of the safest for swimming.
-Playa Acapulquito: Just a quick jaunt out of town, this beach is a surfing and swimming destination on the corridor between San Jose and Cabo San Lucas.
-Palmilla Beach: The beautiful rocky shores of this San Jose beach are a great place for swimming.
-Land's End: It is worth a trip into Cabo San Lucas to visit the massive natural arch that towers over Land's End, or simply admire this unique rock formation from afar.
-Bahia Santa Maria: One of the region's best snorkeling spots, this curved bay is a filled with brightly colored fish and white coral.
The best way to experience Baja California is in a vacation rental near the shore. Find a home or condo in the city's lovely residential neighborhoods, many of which include sea views and private balconies. For a group or large family, consider an oceanfront villa, with a private pool and hot tub.

My Wife and I stayed in one of the suites right off the pool, the entire wall opens up to a private deck and pool access that we just couldn't stop staring at. Definately one of those moments you see in all the vacation commercials ! As soon as we left we were looking at our next trip back.
We sent so many pictures home to friends still at work... To make them jealous...
Downtown San Jose is walking distance and some of the most amazing restaurants and live music we frankly weren't expecting. Cabo is a 45 minute drive to the middle of all the tourist trap stuff if you like that sort of thing, there was a shuttle to take us there from town but we elected to rent an open air Jeep for the fun of it.
Don was a great Host and it's clear how much pride he takes in his home. He seems to have thought of everything. He's handy if you need anything, like where to pick up the best prices on food, the best restaurants, best dive and snorkle tours, best beaches...
In short we wouldn't recommend stayin in the middle of Cabo when you have Don's place to choose from !

Met at the airport by Brett and Britta. Fridge full with all that we had asked for. The cottage we stayed in was immaculate and it was so good to be in the serenity and peace of this little peace of heaven. It was hard to leave the pool which is such a nice place to swim and hang out at. Looking at the sunset from the pool and the sunrise from the little verandah on our casita and always with the Mt. Lasuro in the background. The bird life and the quiet was so restoring. Love it, love it, love it.
Our family can't begin to express our delight with Castillo Escondito!
The villa and grounds are much more stunning than the pictures. We visited
with our two sons and daughter in law for 8 days.
The property was immaculate and the very best of care is given with each little detail of your
needs by Mike and Judy. They even are so adept at hospitality, they anticipated our needs!
From dinners prepared by Hector and staff, to fishing and in town venues, each recommendation and
reservation is made with pleasing you as a guest!
I would whole-heartedly recommend the Villa and the staff. This is the PERFECT retreat for anyone wanting a personal relaxing and beautiful Cabo experience!
A must experience for your family.
Brett and Britta have created a tranquil paradise up in the desert. Imagine waking up to the chatter of birds, the noise of a light breeze rustling the trees, a view of a mountain ahead of you. You wake up in your casita, make a cup of tea or coffee and amble outside onto the verhanda to embrace the day. It is deliciously tranquil. After a beverage you put on your swim suit and gently make your way up to the pool to swim and relax. You have the whole day to read, relax. The offer of heading into San Jose is always there but to be honest, on your first day in this special oasis that Brett and Britta have created, you'll want to forget the busy life that you have and just be ....
This was our first time in the Cabo San Lucas area, and we are glad we chose San Jose del Cabo, and Lori and Mike's condo to stay. The condo was clean, well equipped, in a great location, and fantastic views. Lori's instructions were very clear, and pretty much covered everything you need to know about the condo and San Jose.
The owners handle this condo rental very professionally.
We will call then again when go back to San Jose del Cabo.
Thanks Lori & Mike.
