Casa Francesca is a stunning newly built villa located in the progressive, boutique community of Balcones de Majagual. Designed and built by the same architect who designed Morgans Rock Eco-Lodge (Matthew Faulkner) Casa Francesca is a stunning home mixing both modern luxuries and natural, sustainable organic elements.
Located 12km north of the lovely village of San Juan del Sur Nicaragua, this private villa boasts unparalleled views of the Pacific Ocean from every part of the home. The incredible 15meter infinity pool overlooks the ocean and is the perfect spot to watch one of Nicaragua's incredible sunsets. It is also the perfect spot to watch humpback whales breaching in the ocean as they arrive in the warm waters off the coast of Nicaragua to nurse their young.
Casa Francesca also benefits from its location in one of Central Americas largest private wildlife corridors. Expect daily visits from the local friendly monkey troop, along with sightings of parakeets, maragays, sloths and a variety of other wildlife.
High ceilings, cool white washed stucco walls, and stone floors give Casa Francesa a large, open airy feel. The large screened windows allow for the almost constant breeze that the home benefits from to flow unobstructed through the home, keeping the temperature comfortable both day and night. Gorgeous wooden furniture, stone and rock elements, incredible paintings and blue decor are the final touches in this unique villa, lending to it a soft and natural feel.
This three bedroom 2 1/4 bathroom home is able to sleep five to six people comfortably. The two large bedrooms in the main part of the home each contain full ensuite bathrooms, comfortable king sized beds and ocean views. The third bedroom is located in the designated office space (located right at the pool, you can step right out of the office and plunge into the water) and contains a large, comfortable futon that can easily be converted to sleep one to two people. The room also contains a spacious bathroom. This is also the perfect space in which to work while away from home, and the excellent wifi signal located in the community makes this fully possible.
The living, dining, and kitchen space all have spectacular ocean views, and are surrounded by large Japanese style sliding doors that you can open for uninterrupted ocean. They are also all located within steps of the 15meters, stunning blue, infinity pool so you can take a refreshing dip whenever you so choose! Modern conveniences such as a Smeg gas range, stainless steel appliances, and a fully stocked kitchen make cooking that fresh seafood you bought from the local fisherman on the beach a breeze. Enjoy your meal inside at the large stone counter top/breakfast bar, or outside in the shaded patio at the large dining space. The airy, comfortable living space seats 6 plus people comfortable and is a great space to enjoy music and play any of the games provided in the evening after the sunsets.
CasaFrancesca is located either a short 15 minute walk or short 5 minute drive down the private road to some of the finest beaches in southern Nicaragua, Playa Maderas, Playa Majagual and Playones. There are surf board rentals, and a small selection of cafes to make your day at the beach both comfortable and enjoyable.
An English and Spanish speaking “meet and greet is included in the cost of rental. This home also enjoys the benefits of secure private parking and 24 hour security in a locked, gated community. Cleaning service for home and pool is included in stay.
A 4 x 4 high clearance vehicle is essential for reaching Casa Francesca, particularly in rainy season. It will also make your drives on the local country roads more enjoyable. My family visited Nicaragua in May and stayed at Casa Francesca. From the moment we arrived we knew we had made the right decision. The view was fantastic and the house was perfect for us. The pool was great, long enough for swimming and situated to take full advantage of the view to the valley. Sitting on the deck at night watching the sunset was beautiful. We always felt safe as the area is guarded and there is a roaming guard 24 hrs a day who was very friendly and helpful. The staff are second to none, from the cleaning ladies, the guards and the pool cleaners, all were friendly and helpful. They were constantly going out of their way to ensure that you had everything you could possibly need. The concierge service provided by Gabby was great. Gabby is truly a gem, always available with advice, recommendations, information about the local area, translation and booking activities for us. All we had to do was tell her what we liked or were interested in and she would make it happen along with telling us what we should not miss. The booking agent Laura obviously took great care in knowing what we required in her recommendation as the house was perfect for our needs, she was great. If you are travelling to this area you must look into staying at Casa Francesca

The short journey from San Juan to Casa Francesca at Balcones was a pleasurable experience in it's own right. Driving along a dirt road through increasingly lush tropical forest; passing the odd group of local people and dwellings set back amongst the trees. Then arriving at the entrance to Balcones framed by amazing Chilamate trees with multiple limbs reaching from branches to the earth, looking like groups of old men with walking sticks. Once a resort worker had let you through the gates, it was over a small stream and then a drive along a steep track snaking round the side of the hill. Despite the build up nothing prepares for the sheer breath taking beauty of the scence that awaits as you descend the steps to the pool area of Casa Francesca. Perched on the side of a row of hills, that fall away in front to the Pacific ocean and march in splendour to left and right, all covered with vibrant tropical forest. A large horizon swimming pool sits in front of this scene, in which I spent many hours lazing about watching the ocean and the howler monkeys dangling nonchalantly from the surrounding trees. The house behind is a mixture of white washed walls and natural wood with the main living area having a series of screen doors that can be opened to make you feel as though the house is a natural extension of the surrounding landscape. This lovely design is backed up by all the luxuries of the modern world, from heated showers, to coffee grinders, to stereo's, to fridges/freezers to keep your beer cool. I understand that the owner has chosen deliberately not to have a TV on site, I personally approve of this and would have found it a distraction from the idyllic and truly relaxing setting. My only regret about my stay was that it was only for 4 days, really not long enough.

We had a family get together at Casa Francesca and enjoyed a very nice time both indoors and outdoors. The house is new, well designed, the pool is fanastic and the view of the jungle is really magnificent.

Just before handing over the key, our local contact - Gabby - gave us a few words of advice: don't be startled if you see monkeys while you're in the pool, they like to watch humans swim; always check your shoes for scorpions; and if you see a guy walking around late at night, it's most likely one of the security guards on 24-hour duty. Hmmm. For a moment, she made us wonder what we'd gotten ourselves in to. But such is life in Central america. It's that exotic edge that makes Nicaragua so appealing.
We stayed at Casa Francesca for 3 nights by accident. We were supposed to be housed in another "casa” within Balcones de Majagual. A week before our arrival, though, we were told that repair work was affecting the hot water supply, so we got an unexpected upgrade. Bonus!
My partner and I both agree that the best feature is the pool. It's long enough to allow for length swimming. The infinity edge spills over into an unrivalled view. The landscape is ruggedly pristine. No other buildings scar the setting. There are houses on either side, but they're unobtrusive. At night, once the sun sets, the blue-black sky comes alive with a million points of light. Little compares to slipping naked into the cool waters, and enjoying the exhilaration of being free to appreciate the sights, sounds and sensations of nature's night.
The house itself is long, with a bathroom in every bedroom. It is comfortable and clean and every effort is made to ensure you have everything you need. This is thanks to a dedicated team - including the owners' representatives in Canada, and local security guards, our guide/concierge and neighbours. Everyone is friendly and eager to create a positive vacation experience.
The only drawbacks are the lack of a TV and screens (no glass) on the sliding doors.
In all, we'd definitely recommend booking a stay here. It is outside the hustle of Sjds, but within commuting distance if you crave a night out. Enjoy!
