“romantic” We stayed for two nights to celebrate our 41st anniversary. The cottage was right on the water, very clean, and decorated beautifully - glorious fireplace - which Nanae had already set up for us (thank you!). Though we did not cook - had we wanted to, everything was available in the kitchen. The whole setting was breathtaking - and though we were not fortunate enough to see any whales - we did see an otter and two magnificent eagles fly by. The whole island is a romantic destination. If I could have wished for just one thing, it would have been to have a hot tub so we could have "bubbled" under the incredible blanket of stars.

“Comfort” The stay was overall very comfortable with the serenity of the island along with the comfort of a fully equipped house. From major things like the clean kitchen, bedrooms, patio to small things like poking rod next to the fire place, board games and balls next to the court were all very delighting. Enjoyed every bit of it and had a wonderful time in Orcas Island thanks to Cedar Field Vacation House. The only con was the complexity of the heating system to a person who hasn't used something like that before. It got toasty in the middle of the night as the settings automatically defaulted to a higher temperature after a particular time.

About San Juan Islands

The San Juan Islands are a series of heavily forested islands, adjacent to the Canadian border and overlooking the beautiful Puget Sound. They have become one of the most visited destinations in the state due to their abundance of outdoor recreational options, opportunities for whale watching, and beautiful sunsets. While you are here, check out the arts community around Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, or enjoy the fine dining options of Eastsound Village on Orcas Island. There are numerous ways to spend your time on the San Juan Islands, from visiting historical attractions to exploring the natural beauty of the area by boating or sailing.

  • Go Whale Watching: There are a few local companies that offer tours led by biologist guides to the prime orca whale watching waters.
  • Mount Constitution: Located at the top of the Cascade Mountain Range, this mountain offers breathtaking views of Orcas Island and the surrounding areas, and is also a popular spot for camping.
  • Go Bird Watching: With over 300 species of birds throughout the San Juan Islands, this is the perfect location to grab your binoculars and observe them up close.
  • San Juan Island National Historical Park: A small museum dedicated to the history of the area and guided nature trails are just some of the attractions found in this popular local park.

The San Juan Islands are known for having one of the most vibrant art communities in the state, and the events and festivals held here throughout the year are a reflection of that. Listen to short plays from some of the best playwrights in the region at the Annual Local Playwrights Festival in May, get a close-up look at the art being created throughout the islands during the San Juan Island Artists Studio Tour in June, or cheer on the competitors competing in the Poetry Slam Off every May.

Whether you're looking for a rustic cabin on one of the more secluded islands, or a luxury condo in the middle of all the action, there's a vacation rental available on the San Juan Islands that can cater to your needs and your budget.

If you're looking to explore the region outside of the islands, some of the biggest cities in the U.S. and Canada are just a short drive away. Both the beautiful city of Seattle and the gardens of the British Columbia city of Victoria can be reached in less than 90 minutes by car.

Beautiful Family-Friendly, Ocean View in Eastsound
Very well kept up and well equipped.

The decks and large door/windows gave lovely views of the water through the trees-particularly upstairs with the picnic table. The upstairs bath and bedroom were lovely and spacious, and while the downstairs bedrooms and bath were fine, they were much smaller. Linens were high quality and plentiful and there was a huge washer and dryer. The hill to the house was quite steep to drive up or walk up or down. The kitchen had everything we could want, including spices and condiments to enhance our cooking, along with plenty of nice glasses, plates, etc. The outside grill was very nice also.see more

We love Cedar Field House!

This was our 3rd or 4th year staying at Cedar Field House for our annual reunion for our group of friends. Words cannot express enough how much we adore this place!! The garden looked fabulous this year and we spent a lot of time sitting and talking and enjoying our time together there. One of our friends is a professional chef, and she did the menu for the entire weekend, and used the bottom kitchen as her prep kitchen and the upper kitchen as plating/buffet/etc. It was awesome - as we didn't get in her way! All the amenities and accomodations were great as always. And we spent a lot of time in the field playing horseshoes and wiffleball, and loved that the field was well maintained and chairs and extra firewood were readily available for the firepit. Thanks so much - see you next year!see more
HARO HAIKU - San Juan Island, West side, views! CLOSED DUE TO COVID-19, sorry.
Exceptional Experience!

Exceptional experience for all! From world travelers to novice "oceaners", Haro Haiku has something for everyone! Thoughtfully arranged with a soulful elegant down to earth homey environment. Every accoutrement desired tastefully & strategically placed in simplicity to preserve the beauty both inside and out. Dark, quiet rooms with comfortable beds allowed excellent sleep! Friday Harbor locals are friendly, helpful for additional charm. Binoculars provided were a bonus to watch Orcas & Eagles from the house! So grateful to have found such a treasure! We came with family in June and have already booked another trip in September for the two of us!see more
