"Rife with color, almost every wall, every piece of furniture is hand-painted a different shade yet blends beautifully with each other, flowing from room to patio, roof garden to bedroom. Plants and flowers adding yet more color to this fabulously fun yet comfortable home." Quote from San Miguel House & Garden Tour, a favorite for 7 years.

This is the fifth year we have rented Casa de Alma in San Miguel Mexico. We stay two months and feel like it has become our second home. We love the location, how well the villa is equipped, the attention to detail by the owners, the staff, and the joyous colors. Going back.

Stan and his wife have created the best appointed home in a wonderful Ex-Pat and Mexican neighbourhood in SMa. It is immaculate, comfortable, welcoming, colourful and visually stimulating. We love to sit on the rooftop garden with a fantastic view of the city or in the quiet courtyard with fountain. We have visited for two years in a row in November/December for six weeks and would have rented again in 2014 except Stan and his wife will be in residence! Having their wonderful maid come three days a week is a nice bonus. Beds are super comfortable, great hot showers, fantastically equipped kitchen if you love to cook, spotlessly clean and maintained home.

As an artist I surround myself with color in my San Francisco apartment, however, this house is "over the top" with turquoise leather chairs surrounding a pink table. Even the male hummingbirds are stunningly beautiful. As my guests mentioned, "it's hard to be unhappy in a place like this!"
It took a little while to get used to the location; once you are on Canal Street you easily see how far it is to the center of town. For $2.40 taxi you can move throughout the town and for $4.00 the taxi will pick you up at the door - even in a monsoon like downpour.
Areceli, the bilingual housekeeper, who comes 3 times a week is a delight. She is more a Manager than cleaner; she can assist you with resetting Wifi, call a plumber, and other household duties.
You have no need to bring an iron, flashlights, hairdryers, bath robes, paperbacks, CDs. If you have a question - just email the owner, Stan and/or Martha, the house manager and your questions will be answered.

Our staying at Casa del alma was amazing, because it was super clean, super organize and very secure. You can find everything in the house, very well planned and the location was great. Araceli was such a delight to have.I lived 26 years in Mexico and being used to have housekeeping at home, I can tell you that you are so fortunate to have such a responsible, caring and great cook as her.
Even thou we never heard from the Property Manager, we felt well installed in the house. Everything was self explanatory. The terrace was such a great place to entertain or just relax and enjoy the view.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful gem!!!

Everywhere you look it is beautiful. The art, the attention to detail, even earplugs on the bedside table. The use of color is wonderful throughout. We could not find one thing to complain about. I loved that because of the layout, one could always find a private spot to retreat to. I loved the proximity to the market.
The kitchen was awesome...so much workspace, such good quality pots and pans. We had so much fun using the kitchen. I would definately come back and tell friends about Casa de alma.

Casa del alma was the perfect San Miguel rental for us. The colours & decor created an upbeat, happy space. We had breakfast on the sunlit terrace. We relaxed in the beautiful private courtyard. We love to cook & entertain & the kitchen was well equiped & the dining room was filled with beautiful mexican dishes. The fruit & vegetable market, fish & meat stores as well as the best local restaurants were all within a short walk away. Araceli the maid was a joy to have. The tennis courts & the town centre were all within walking distance. We felt so relaxed & at home we wanted to stay forever.

Our six weeks at casa del alma were delightful. We never tired of the wonderful ldecor, the lush courtyard or the breakfasts on the sunny terrace. We lacked for nothing as far as comforts of the home. The kitchen and dining room had all we needed and the three fireplaces kept us cozy and festive over Christmas and beyond.
Araceli was terrific, keeping the home neat and clean and answering our many questions about the local seasonal celebrations. He location was convenient to the market and several restaurants were only a short walk away. We felt very comfortable walking home in the evenings, through the neighbourhood. It was interesting to get to know the rhythms of the community.
Stan was very pleasant to do business with and we would recommend this Casa to anybody.
"Perfect oasis of sun and color and sure beats winter up north!"

Casa alma was our fourth and without a doubt our best vacation rental in San Miguel...or frankly anywhere. From start of rental long distance with owner Stan to homekeeper (3X weekly maid), Araceli, our experience was warm and gracious. You should of heard our wows when we first walked into Casa alma after the long flights to get there. And during our month stay we never stopped appreciating the lovely, comfortable, artsy, and spacious home and felt very comfortable in it's San antonio location. It was hard to leave. We surely hope to return someday.

Your home was amazing! It was so comfortable and colorful. We had all the amenities we needed for cooking, relaxing, enjoying the courtyard/rooftop terrace and total quiet.
We would love to stay at your place on our next trip to San Miguel.

The home is beautifully decorated in local colors and themes and every convenience of home is thought of to make the guests comfortable. It is also just a walk away from the downtown action. A great place for families...
The house keeper was very gracious too. I hope to visit again!

We had the pleasure of staying in Casa del alma for the month of May, 2011. I must say that I was at one time worried that the profusion of color would drive me nuts for such an extended time. My worry was definitely unfounded and I think I have overcome my fear of using more color in my own home surroundings! The house is extremely well equiped for any thing you want to do, be it entertaining guests or having a quiet evenings meal in house. The housekeeper was a plus here. She even left me a small bouquet of roses on Mother's Day knowing I was far from my own children back home! We delighted in the neighborhood and it's accessability to Centro and surrounding areas. San Miguel is very energetic so it was nice to have the peacefulness of this Casa to come home to.

Casa del alma made us happy every time we walked through the door! It was bright, cheerful, clean, comfortable, unpretentious, very well equipped with lots of little extras that made you feel at home. The two patios were our favorite places - bringing in the day, watching the hummers, listening to the fountain, just enjoying being outside! We loved the location just outside el centro - we never once felt unsafe walking day or night. We elected to walk everywhere but cabs were almost constant just one block from the casa. It was a 10 minute max, although completely uphill, walk to el jardin and the touristy areas. I'd been to SMa seven times previously but always on business and I'd only stayed in el centro next to the bars and bell towers so it was refreshing to stay in a more authentic neighborhood and to explore new territory! The noise level was exponentially lower! Unfortunately, the bakery next door negated all the positive effects of the walking! It was fab and open till 10 pm!! A small neigborhood store was just a few doors up and the larger San Juan de Dios mercado was about a five minute walk. One thing that first attracted me to CDa was the fact that there was not a full-time housekeeper. We tend to be very independent and low-maintenance travelers but aracely was very welcoming and was kind enough to shop a couple times for a few necessities and do a couple loads of laundry for us. Stan was wonderful to work with - very friendly, honest, answered all questions quickly, offered lots of helpful advice - you could tell he just wants his guests to enjoy themselves and feel at home. This was my husband's first trip to SMa and he fell completely in love! Casa del alma was the perfect place to stay for his introduction to the beauty and uniqueness of the area.

This lovely and colorful home is located in a very pleasant neighborhood, within easy walking distance to the main square in the center of town. (San Miguel is loaded with wonderful restaurants and bars!) Stan and Joanna have done an amazing job decorating their home, it has every convenience including high speed internet, and it is filled with artwork from outstanding local artists (several of whom have become our friends as well). The house staff is delightful and very helpful, especially araceli, the housekeeper, who is a delight. All in all I can't say enough good things about Casa del alma and Stan and Joanna. What a treat!

We have been wintering in SMa for over 12 years and Casa de alma is our favorite place we have rented. Loved the neighborhood, loved the casa and the way it was decorated but most of all it is the best equiped villa we have ever stayed in. The owners are so in tune to providing for your every need that your stay will be one of joy and comfort.

What a home! We were so fortunate to enjoy the entire month of February at Casa del alma, easily the best equipped and most well maintained home we've ever rented. From the moment we arrived to a delicious pre-arranged lunch and araceli's easy welcoming smile, we knew our stay would be perfect -- and it was. From the website photos in advance, I was a little concerned that 'profusion of joyous color' might actually feel like 'living in a pinata.' But Casa del alma is fabulous - and some days we never even left the house (except for a short jaunt to the bakery, the mercado, or the tortilla maker). For people who love to cook, it's a delight to have a huge assortment of top quality pans, good tools, gorgeous ceramic dinner service, and anything else we could want or need. In an entire month, the only 'tool' we couldn't find was a cocktail shaker, so we added one as a small thank you for sharing your terrific and soulful home. Gracias. (update: We've returned to SMa for three years now and have become good friends with araceli, who's still with the casa and simply wonderful!)
