Stone Hacienda, Pool, Sweeping Views, Walk to Town
Description from the owner
Welcome to the heart of San Miguel, the jewel in the colonial crown. Casa Laguna is a lovely retreat from the attraction and activity of El Centro, and yet only seven blocks to the vibrant heart, El Jardin.
Located on the rise of the hill overlooking town, Casa Laguna is an easy walk down and a vigorous walk (or taxi) back. There is no need for a car, yet you have that quiet distance from the traffic and crowds in town.
Casa Laguna is located on a magnificent property, shared with two other homes in a green, wooded setting. There is a locked gate drive and parking for up to two cars. The casa resides within a stone-walled compound of the three homes. The common areas include a naturalized, lagoon-shaped pool, fountains, fruit trees and a 17th Century chapel.
The hacienda architectural style is antique, but the house was recently constructed. There are all of the modern conveniences for your comfort, with the feeling of having stepped back in time. All furnishings are in keeping with the country comfort of a hacienda, and most were hand-crafted in San Miguel.
Casa Laguna is spacious and comfortable, with places for relaxing inside and out. There are three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a large living room, gourmet kitchen/dining, front loggia, master bedroom deck, and rooftop lounge area. There are views of San Miguel from every room.
You may enjoy your morning cuppa on the front porch, an afternoon nap in a chaise by the tranquil pool, and sunsets on the terrace or rooftop while you look over the beautiful city skyline and to the distant mountains. You will enjoy watching the birds migrate every afternoon back to the lake.
The interiors of Casa Laguna are rustic and elegant at the same time, with stone walls, soaring ceilings and antique wood beams. The dramatic fireplaces take the chill off winter mornings, and also provide romantic comfort. The home is a haven of luxurious appointments and quiet corners, all with direct views to La Parroquia as well as the surrounding hillsides.
The first floor includes a grand entry and large sala, with all furnishings hand-crafted in Mexico. There is a television and DVD player within a cabinet in the living area and wireless internet available (if you bring your laptop). High speed internet, and US phone number are included.
Step up to the kitchen and dining area and enjoy every gourmet accoutrement so that you may practice your cooking skills from the excellent courses offered in town! Feel free to drink from any tap as there is a state-of-the-art whole house water purification system. You'll find condiments, spices, linens and other dining features that feel like home. Our sweet and delightful maid Alicia is also an excellent cook and may be contracted to shop and prepare meals.
On the second floor are the three bedrooms. Each bedroom is provided with down comforters, fine linens, and lots of pillows.
The large master bedroom has a Moorish style fireplace, King-sized bed, and a modern bath en suite. There's a TV and DVD player in an armoire, a sofa and coffee table in front of the French doors leading to the terrace (with chairs and a chaise).
There is one twin bedroom (two individual beds) and one Queen sized bedroom, these two sharing a Jack-and-Jill style full bath.
The rooftop patio is commodious and comfortable, with a big U-shaped sofa, perfect for entertaining friends, or for stretching out for a nice siesta. The sweeping views include the churches and chapels and even the local bullring. You will enjoy the most magnificent views in this historic city.
The pool, with a cascading waterfall, is like a refreshing lagoon. There is a swim-up island, and chaise in the sun or under the bamboo-shade cover. You can light the naturalized pool areas and outdoor fountain to dramatic effect at nighttime. Fernando arrives four days a week to keep the grounds lush and the pool clean.
There is a 17th Century Chapel right next to the pool. You can see bits of the originally painted décor within. At this time, we are still awaiting a proper restoration, but for now it is as it has lived for four centuries. It's an anchor to this very special property and a subtle reminder of the spiritual nature of this ancient culture.
To care for your visit you may expect Alicia to come three times a week. She will attend to the laundry, dishwashing, and house maintenance so that you can relax and live like a local. Upon request she will also prepare excellent Mexican meals. For your comida, for example, you may savor her delicious Enchiladas Verdes with Rice, Salad, and Fresh Fruit Water, or Arrachera with Guacamole and Frijoles. Que rico!
Come, enjoy our little corner of heaven. You will find every comfort, and fall in love with the magic of San Miguel.

As a family of four, we've been very fortunate to call the lovely Casa Laguna home for an entire school year. We've been so well cared for by staff, by alicia - maid, cook and caregiver extraordinaire, and Fernando, gardner and the most reliable go-to handyman you'll find. And what an pleasure to have Norma, an extremely responsive house manager, to insure that everything run as smoothly as possible. Thank you!
We've seen a lot of homes around San Miguel. Casa Laguna stands out as a rare refuge so close to town. Every day, we reveled in the unbeatable views, the lush gardens, and the comfy bedrooms.
We've appreciated the space the home provides, especially the grand terraces, the extra refreshing pool, the secure off street parking, all with such a close walk to the centro.
What a year! Lifetime memories made in a very special home.

Can't say enough! Beautiful ,comfortable home with incredible landscaping and view of all San Miguel . Home is extremely safe as it has electronic drive-thru doors, then a parking area, then walk-thru door that opens to the beautiful 3 home landscaped compound. Even with 2 other beautiful homes inside, each is very private. The master bedroom has the walkout balcony with loungers and the staircase to the incredible rooftop comfy sectional couch! The other 2 bedrooms have windows that open up to the same gorgeous views of San Miguel and miles of mountains and scenery! The other outdoor space is the l-shaped front porch with sitting area and table and chairs for dining. Of course we lived outside (which is our #1 criteria when looking for a rental), but the living room and dining room are equally comfortable and beautiful . Then there is the sweet maid/cook. She made breakfast (exactly like we requested) and wonderful snacks for when we got back from all our excursions. Now it is located up a steep hill! If it was a girls trip, we would have no problem walking to town and probably catching taxi back with all our purchases...but our husbands on this trip decided after their walk to town they would rent 4 wheelers. They made great deal and got 2 for the next 3 days (which was easy because of the private parking and unusual for SMa). I have been coming to SMa for over 20 years and have rented in lots of different neighborhoods and I can highly recommend Casa Laguna! Read more
Gracias, Pam! I'm so glad you enjoyed Casa Laguna, and I hope you will return soon!

We have stayed at Casa Laguna several times, and we just love it. The house is open and airy, and surrounded by beautiful gardens. It is part of a three-house compound, and I could park my car inside the walls.
Everything in the house is both comfortable and beautiful. The decor is elegant but not in any way stuffy. The maid is friendly and also a good cook! The gardener keeps the grounds perfectly. Plus, Maggi has a house manager who supervises the staff. Not many homes in San Miguel go this extra step. The manager (Norma) can meet any challenge.
The views from the rooftop terrace are stunning. All of San Miguel is laid out before you. We loved to take up a refreshing beverage and sit (on the gorgeous furniture) on the terrace and watch the sun set and the lights come on in San Miguel.
One last treat was how well-equipped the home was. We have stayed in many homes, and some of them skimp on the necessities. Maggi has provided all of the dishes, silverware, glassware, towels, etc etc etc you will want.
We will definitely be back! Read more
Gracias for your kind words! We hope you continue to enjoy Casa Laguna when you return! Warmly, Maggi

My family and I spent a fabulous week in this lovely home decorated in a lush Mexican style and complete with all the modern conveniences. Except for the fact that there is so much to do in San Miguel de allende, we might never have left the house! Everything worked beautifully and we felt like we were living in the lap of luxury. The highlight of our trip was when we asked the local lady who provides maid service during the week if she would teach us how to make Chicken Mole. She spent several hours taking us through the preparation step by step, and than agreed to join us for lunch! The cooking lesson was entirely in Spanish which was an especially good opportunity for my son to work on his Spanish skills. From the moment we were greeted at the Leon airport by the driver recommended by the owners, to the morning tour we had of Guanajuato, to the short trip to the hot springs, to the tips on shopping and restaurants...we could not have had a better experience or a better vacation.
