Breathtaking views of ocean, islands, mountains and city from this magical three-story redwood home at the end of a cul-de-sac on 1.38 acres! Walls of glass & 4 decks let you enjoy the spectacular views from sunrise to sunset. Offering privacy in a tranquil mountain setting both dramatic and romantic, this 2,400 sq ft. home is filled with light. Soaring 25’ wood ceilings, an open floor plan, faux walls by Vivencio, wooden floors, hand-painted tiles and a Balinese fireplace mantel are a few extras that make this home unique. This is the home of an artist and writer and is elegantly furnished with art from around the world. Here is an opportunity to stay on top of the world, only 20 minutes from State Street, 25 minutes to the beach and 30 minutes to the famed Santa Ynez wine country. Quail, wild pigeons, soaring hawks and hummingbirds make this home a bird watcher’s paradise. Surrounding roads are a Mecca for hiking and bicycling. This area was sacred to the Chumash Indians. The California state monument, the Chumash cave known as "Painted Cave" famous for its petroglyphs, was once owned by my husband's family and is a short walk away. Fishing, boating and nature cruises are available at Cachuma Lake, 20 minutes to the east. Santa Ynez is wine tasting country and only 30 minutes away. Nearby historic Cold Springs Tavern offers excellent cuisine and Sunday afternoon concerts.
Note: The top level of the home, a loft open to the floors below, has a double futon and can function as a third bedroom. The homeowners live in a separate apartment with a private entrance on the property--Homestay housing. You won’t know they are there unless you need them. We will be available always by phone or email and generally in person; however, we respect the privacy of guests and will be invisible unless otherwise desired. I am happy to extend check-in and check-out times if there are no other guests booked for the dates you request.

I organized a group of women to get together to celebrate a friends bachelorette weekend, and WOW, i could not have possibly picked a better location. Josie was so easy to communicate with and generously accommodating with all of her recommendations and helpful hits. This home is stunning, with unique charm and character in every nook and cranny. It is bursting with light and color and fun quarky energy. We had 6 women and found the house incredibly spacious and comfortable. Breath taking views of Santa Barbara stretching to the ocean, this made drinking morning coffee and having evening cocktails on the (many) balconies exceptionally gorgeous and memorable. We felt completely secluded in our own little slice of paradise, but were only a short 25 minute drive to downtown where we enjoyed the vibrance of the Funk Zone for dinner and drinks. Then the next day we took another scenic drive 20 minutes into the heart of Santa Ynez wine country. Fabulous, absolutely stunning. Truly an amazing weekend. It was ideal for a memorable girls weekend, but I would come back here in a heart beat with my husband (or for a solo week of relaxation) to enjoy a mellow vacation of hiking the trails, soaking in the sunsets, basking in the sunshine, and taking advantage of the zen and serenity of the mountain while doing yoga on the spacious balconies...oh, and that shower... so liberating and freeing to be high above the world with all the light pouring through the large windows, or to soak in the tub with the twinkle of city so far down below. You wont find many properties like this one.

We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, comfortable house so much during our one week in Santa Barbara that it was was hard to leave it in the morning, even to go to the beach. Gorgeous views of the city and ocean below from the decks off the dining room and living room. One of my favorite things was the bathtub adjacent to a large window looking out over the landscape towards the city and ocean. We met the owner Josie, an exceptionally gracious and warm person, and enjoyed having drinks with her and her husband on the deck when the stars were out. There are two roads to go down to the city, one more twisting and turning than the other, both lovely drives that take about 15-20 minutes. We enjoyed the trails up in the nature preserve near the house as well as walks along different beaches in Santa Barbara and nearby towns. This is an ideal place to stay in Santa Barbara, and we very much hope to return to Josie's house.
