Additional Location Information
We chose this property partly because of the open flat sunny meadow surrounded by forests with distant mountain views and partly because activities nearby. The Oak Tree speaks for it self, it is AMAZING, as are the birds who come to rest. The redwood forests, beaches, are all with in reach. We are free from traffic, noise, and grime. Mt. Hermon offers a fantastic and rare zip line opportunity as you move from platform to platform through the tree top canopy. Loch Lomond Reservoir offers several different small boat rentals and stock trout, bass, and blue gill.
West Cliff Drive and world famous Santa Cruz Wharf and Beach Boardwalk the are found within 10 miles of our bungalow. We are 200 yards from the Sunset Trail at the Quail Hollow Ranch Park and Nature Preserve in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Big Sur and San Francisco and all the all the treasures between (Monterey, Carmel, Point Lobos, Franklin Point, Pigeon Point, Los Gatos, and Saratoga) are available as day trips from this central location. Our family enjoys the central coast region and has since for more than a century.
We are close to many state parks and the redwood trees. The rich and varied history of the region is so much fun to learn it does not seem;educational. Recognized as one of the most significant biological treasures in the state of California, the Zyante Sandhills Zone support a unique community of plants and animals found only in Santa Cruz County. Quail Hollow Ranch, is an equstrian park first developed by the founders of Sunset Magazine. The trails around the ranch will lead you past a pond, year round streams and a host of wildlife.
The kids might like to help harvest or plat the next crop in the guest veggie garden. If you cannot leave work, there are satellite conference rooms and office space available within five miles.

“A beautiful retreat”
We literally just got back to the east coast, but couldn't resist leaving an excellent review for Lolly's rental in Ben lomond. We had everything we could possibly need to have family and friends come visit and the beautiful meadow was such fun to explore with the kids. I enjoyed cooking with her herb garden and it made us feel like this was a second home. We will certainly use this as our retreat when we come visit friends and family in the near future again.

Julie, We love that you all had a fabulous time visiting the Santa Cruz Mountains, and the Ben Lomond Bungalow. Please let us know when your next trip is planned so we can provide event information. Thanks so much for taking the time to post the review. They are important to us as well as folks trying to interpret vacation rentals from the web sites. Wishing you the best of a glorious spring.
“Relaxing and peaceful.”
My husband and I just returned from a lovely "birthday" weekend at Lolly and Lindley's cozy mountain retreat. We had a nice family gathering and everyone loved the place. So now we are looking at the calendar to book another stay there. The house itself has a fully stocked kitchen to cook to your hearts content, there is a terrific grocery store-Ben Lomond Market- a couple of miles away that has everything you need to make those wonderful meals. The beds were very comfy so we ended up sleeping in. Since the evening time was a bit chilly we turned on the heaters which heated the house very well. All in all it was a wonderful stay, Lolly and Lindley are very kind and accommodating.

Tammy and Neil, Thank you for taking the time to review the property. The reviews help both us and the people trying to weed through the properties to determine the real from the hype. We loved your photos and hope to see more, and look forward to your return. Warmest Wishes,
Evelyn and Cliff
“Clean, Comfortable and Cozy”
The Owner was very communicative and responsible to our needs; as well as having pride of ownership in this clean and well cared for property. The location on a private dead end road was quiet and comfortable. Our grandchildren (7 and 3) loved staying with us a few nights and enjoyed playing in the meadow as well as the herb and vegetable garden despite the cold December weather. Our dogs were happy and comfortable as well. We look forward to coming back.

We really enjoyed the peaceful setting and it was great that it was only a couple miles to the park where the wedding was at. We wish we would have had more time to explore, but hey it gives us a good reason to come back! Lolly was great in communicating about the home and letting us know what was going on in the area for fun and food. We really liked Don Quixote's for lunch (wish we could have seen a show!) along with the Trout Farm. Rocky's was great for breakfast. Would definitely recommend this property. Fun Hideaway Guest JamieDate of stay 06/23/13Review Submitted 07/03/13 What stood out most to us about this property was its location. I loved that it was so dog friendly with the slider opening to a small fenced gravel yard out front. We loved walking in the neighborhood to the Quail Hollow Reserve which offers a lovely path for dogs and humans alike. The highlight of the bungalow is the oak outside the living room area. When you look out, it feels like you are in a treehouse. Just stunning. The bungalow is small, but cozy. The owner was helpful in giving background and details. A few small frustrations. Dealing with the entry code--we were not able to get until literally the last day. I've never had that happen, and would have appreciated having that sooner. Nevertheless, we got in, and felt the bungalow was a good fit for this trip. It did get warm one night and we did not know they had air, but apparently they do so take advantage of that if it gets warm. Lolly was very attentive, which we appreciated, and I would definitely recommend the bungalow to others. Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing. Amazing Getaway Guest AnonymousDate of stay 06/17/13Review Submitted 06/25/13 Our recent stay at the Ben Lomond Bungalow was fabulous! The property and amenities were just as described on the website. The house was clean and comfortable, providing everything needed to feel right at home. The owners were extremely helpful, providing tons of information regarding fun things to see and do nearby, as well as great places to eat. They were also very quick to respond to specific questions we had. An added bonus is that the security deposit has already been returned to my account. Our three night stay was great, we would definitely return and would definitely recommend to others who plan to vacation in the area. Thanks for the great stay. A Great Spot to Stay Guest ChristineDate of stay 06/07/13Review Submitted 06/23/13 This is one of our favorite places to recharge, relax and visit with family in nearby Scotts Valley. My husband and I are returning for the entire month of July; that speaks volumes. We try to arrange 2 or 3 month- stays over the course of a year. QHMR is out of the Santa Cruz fog, but a short 15-20 minute drive to the beach. The home itself is on a lovely country lane with a spectacular oak tree to gaze upon. I have raved in earlier reviews about the cleanliness, the well-appointed kitchen, the comfortable furnishings, and the beautiful yard with relaxing outdoor seating areas. A newly added garden space with herbs and greens is a nice addition. We take our grandson to Roaring Camp for train rides or river walks; that's a 7 minutes drive. Quail Hollow Ranch is also closer by and has numerous hiking trails to explore. I hope to take my 3 year old grandson on the Sunset Trail this summer; it's a 5 minute walk to the trailhead from the Lindley's home. Lolly is a terrific landlady and makes sure everything is in order; she is only a text away if you have a question. QHMR is a wonderful retreat, very quiet, and yet close enough to many activities to make it the best of both worlds. susie Guest susie q Date of stay 06/14/13Review Submitted 06/18/13 Beautiful home with high end amenities in an isolated area a couple of miles from town. Would be a great place as a home base if wanting to go to surrounding areas...but you are off the beaten path. If you want quiet, this is the place for you. Peaceful getaway Guest Olya G.Date of stay 04/12/13Review Submitted 05/04/13 We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The owners were very friendly and helpful, with phone calls and emails to make sure everything was set up as we needed it, and giving us suggestions on things to do in the area. The house is tastefully furnished and clean, with high-end appliances and a well-stocked kitchen. The highlight of the property is the meadow out back. Our toddler loved running around in the grass, and we had a lovely time sitting outside at night. The location is remote enough that you feel you're getting away from it all, but an excellent grocery store is only 2 miles away, and all the pleasures of Santa Cruz are only 20 minutes away. Would definitely come back here. Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway. Owner response: Yes this is a wonderful area year around. We are hoping that you and others will come to know the greatness of this area in the winter time as well. Ferns, greenery, and mild winters offer great opportunities to enjoy the coast year around. Winter is also an economical time to get to know this wonderful area. Spring breal week - perfect weather and location Guest pollokontourDate of stay 04/01/13Review Submitted 04/09/13 Property was just as described, we found it clean and well presented. I would recommend this property for a nice relaxing break, the sky at night was a sight to remember. We had our dog with us and all worked well. I think the best part was the location, it was short trips to the small local towns, Ben Lomand, Boulder creek, Scotts valley, Felton and Santa Cruz. We had a great coffee in Felton, shop called the pourhouse. Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing. Relaxing home in the woods Guest Edith E. Date of stay 03/27/13Review Submitted 04/04/13 Santa Cruz was a meeting place for our family. We all met from at this lovely home. First thing I noticed was how clean the home was and the oak tree and the beautiful meadow! It really met all our needs. There were 6 of us, and although each of us didn't have our own room it worked out perfectly. We also found it nice to explore to nearby santa cruz and beaches and then come home and make a nice supper and we noticed the new BBQ and had a great time making dinners and relaxing for the evening. Even better was the firepit area in the back. Since there were two teenagers, this was a real hit to have smores for dessert! Love the big meadow, and was just such a homey comfortable feel to the home, with no problems at all. I did notice on my side of the house the rooster decided to have a daily wake up at 4 am, but soon fell back asleep. If you like the hubbub and busyness from a city this may not be the place for you, but if you like to be in nature and relax this is just the perfect place. Glad to have found this for our get together. Got to know the welcoming neighbor lab as well, who came for her daily visits! The smell of the steak probably encouraged her as well. One morning my brother and I went on a hike to a nearby lake that was just lovely and a nice workout too! I have no problems recommending this home for a fun yet relaxing vacation. Extremely Comfortable a Guest Accidental TouristDate of stay 03/05/13Review Submitted 04/04/13 On a recent trip to CA with my wife and two young boys (4 and 6) we had to change some plans fairly late in the game and needed to find something in the Santa Cruz area for three weeknights. This property would probably be out of our budget in high season, but the owners had a reasonable, mid-week low season offer posted. We jumped at the chance and were very happy with the choice. Huge yard for the kids to romp, well stocked and spacious kitchen, warm "off the grid" feel of Santa Cruz mountains while still having all the various creature comforts. The owner was very responsive to a minor problem with one of the fireplaces (maintenance fellow had it fixed first thing the next morning) and the place was very much as advertised. I have little doubt that for many people this property could warrant an excellent. Depends a bit on what you are looking for. We would have preferred something a smidge closer to Santa Cruz, and I suspect that the chance to lounge about outside around the fire-pit on warm summer evenings, star-gazing, would enhance the experience. Peaceful and secluded Guest Phyllis H.Date of stay 02/19/13Review Submitted 03/05/13 We visit the area often and are absolutely thrilled to have found this quiet and comfy home. We stayed 5 nights and enjoyed visiting our new granddaughter in San Jose and also spending time with friends in Aptos. We found the location to be in perfect proximity to both areas. Just a very short drive to Santa Cruz, yet far enough removed from the beach crowds. The house is very clean and comfortable inside and out. The old oak tree is breathtaking, and the huge meadow is soooo quiet and relaxing. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Lolly, while we were there, and she was very kind and gracious...just a wonderful person! I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a special place to stay in the magical Santa Cruz mountains. Thank you, Lolly, for providing such a place. We are looking forward to many more happy returns!

“Contented Wedding Guests”
I booked this rental to provide lodging for out-of-town guests (and myself)for a wedding, and for a base of operations for a flower arranging party. The guests were very pleased, especially with the magnificant tree, deer and quail. The owners were very responsive and communicative, the one small problem quickly attended to.
Response from the owner, Lindley and Lolly V - 07/18/2012
Thank you for taking the time to post a review. Quail Hollow Ranch and Highland Park are great places for weddings. We are delighted you chose us as your extended family's base for the wedding. Ben Lomond Bungalow has been the place were babies were conceived, where newborns were first brought home, and where grandparents come to get to know their new family members. We are delighted that now wedding party is added to the mix. We hope that you will send pictures for our upcoming wall, and come again soon.
“California Living at Its Finest.”
We had a spectacular vacation in this California home. It was the holiday of a lifetime! In particular, the location of the house was perfect for us. It couldn't be beat. We hiked the Henry Cowell State Park (huge redwood trees, river, open air train ride); visited the Monterey Bay aquarium (huge variety of sea life on display); we kayaked in estuaries of Moss Landing and watched the otters, and sea lions while dining at the local fresh Fish Market; visited the Natural Bridges State Park (tide pools, butterflies, beach); and even drove up the coast to San Francisco to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. All of our outings were an easy drive from this charming country home in a beautiful, serene setting: A huge, ancient, spreading Oak tree covered the back yard and a slate covered patio overlooked a meadow which was visited frequently by wild life. The owners were delightful and easy to work with. We can tell they have put a lot of thought, and TLC into this home and we appreciated their attentiveness to our comfort. Everything we could possibly need at our home away from home was provided. The upgraded kitchen was clean, spacious and well equipped. We appreciated the WiFi and Hdtv. The beds were very comfortable; and the entire house was tastefully decorated. We used the house for a month and would have loved to stay longer. We hope to return again soon.
Response from the owner, Lindley and Lolly V - 06/30/2012
We are delighted you found so many of the day adventures available from the Ben Lomond Bungalow. Playing hard at all the great things to do along the Central California Coast makes coming home to the peace and beauty of the Quail Hollow Ranch Park in the San Lorenzo Valley even more special. Next time you come visit the new Sage and Lavender Gardens around the out door living area in the meadow will be completed. We are hoping for a hot tub this winter. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
