A charming 2 bedroom adobe home is situated on Santa Fe's desirable North side, in the foothills at the crest of Haven Hill. Walk to the Plaza or hike the hills. Espiritu de Madre blends Southwestern and Asian motifs for a decidedly Santa Fe vacation stay.
An East facing adobe walled portal at the entry to Espiritu de Madre welcomes your arrival and is perfect for a morning cup of coffee, a shady lunch or alfresco supper under the stars, or just relaxing in the mis-matched rocking chairs watching the Santa Fe clouds float by.
The living room is light and comfortable, the famous New Mexico sun streams through large window. Sit and read a book on the overstuffed sofa or curl up with a cup of tea in front of a blazing fire in the tall kiva fireplace. White washed carved beams are overhead. Unique art; modern and traditional paintings and vintage black and white photographs of 1930's New Mexico,(shot by an apprentice of Ansel Adams) dot the walls. Chinese antiques add accents. The dining room seats 6 at an iron and glass table with vintage Eames era side chairs. A classic spinet piano is at the ready for singing Christmas carols. The kitchen has Talavera tile, a large island and punched tin cabinets. Skylights and track lighting illuminate and give a gallery feel to the home.
Espiritu de Madre was decorated by an Emmy nominated Hollywood designer and features bold colors and comfortable furnishings. A niche bookcase between the living and dining areas is filled with eclectic books, Acoma pottery, vintage collectibles, a Bose Wave Radio and a flat screen TV with built-in DVD. A collection of current and classic films and CDs add to the guest's leisure time.
The Master Suite, up 3 steps from the main level has a quiet, relaxing Zen vibe with a Queen sized bed, Asian tables and a comfy side chair for reading or just taking in the view out the French doors to the West. A small deck is perfect for sunset cocktails or midnight star gazing. A small flat screen TV/DVD lets you watch late night TV. The master bath showcases a Talavera sink and spa tub.
Down 8 steps is the Guest Suite and laundry room. The guest room highlights rare Haywood Wakefield twin bow-tie beds and a vintage wicker rocker perfect for watching the wildlife through the double doors. Whimsical art is hung on the lower level. Aspens, lilacs, piñon and cedars dot the walk-out garden; beware the pink flamingo.
Let Espiritu de Madre hug you with memories. Lady bugs welcome.

as an antidote to the gray Midwest fall. Cleverly designed. Loads of real art with charming Santa Fe touches. A big, bright living room - great for reading - and upstairs bedroom. Owner has thoughtfully equipped Espiritu with everything - all household supplies, kitchen stuff, recent movies. Downstairs bedroom is a bit dark and tight - but who wants to sleep when you can be out in Santa Fe? Excellent north side location: Easy walk to gym/pool at the Ft. Marcy Recreation (for fitness) and to Sf's terrific restaurants (for fatness). Try the usual (Osteria, Il Piatto and the new pizzeria Lino for Italian) and Clafoutis on Guadalupe for French breakfast. Hated to leave so soon - but will be back!

Everything was ready for our arrival including a little box of locally made chocolates. Directions to the home were clear and it was easy to find. Cute little walled patio with privacy, charming kitchen, well equipped. Bedrooms were nicely separated with one close to the living, dining, kitchen and the other downstairs next to the laundry room. House was interestingly decorated and the swamp cooler was easy to operate so the home was comfortable during the warmer afternoons. Very quiet location with a short walk to the plaza. The fireplace looked wonderful to use in cooler weather.
