"Even Prettier than the Pictures! We rented the Taylor Estate for our group of singles & couples. We were 12 total with plenty of room to spare! The house was beautiful - every room is like a dream! I couldn't believe it when we got there - so much better than I had imagined. We had a fabulous weekend - we walked everywhere we wanted to go. We'll stay at Taylor Estate every time we're in Savannah.
-Holly Peace, Sharpsburg, Ga.
Located in the heart of Savannah's picturesque downtown, simply park your car in the roomy driveway (fits up to 4 cars)... and throw away the keys! Everything downtown is at your doorstep. But be warned.....as lovely as the surrounding Savannah Squares and sites are...you'll find yourselves reluctant to leave the handsome elegance of the Taylor Estate. Comfy beds, superior linens, fluffy towels, original heart pine floors, antique and deliciously soft leather furnishings are a joy. The ambience is deliberately reminiscent of 1870 (the year the Manor and its adorable Carriage House (later renovated & renamed "Taylor Cottage") were built. But you'll find every convenience of the 21st century at your fingertips.
Bedrooms each have a theme: The "Civil War", "Renaissance", "Rosebud" & the "Louisa May Alcott Attic" bedrooms (nicknamed by the owner for her favorite author as a young girl) are in the Manor. While the two bedrooms in the Taylor Cottage are themed: "Wicker Wonder" and "Colonial Heritage". Unique to The Taylor Estate is that it is filled w/the owners' personal family antiques & heirlooms which creates for our Guests the feel of living in a home and not a... "vacation rental house".
The owners (myself and my family) live next door to the Estate so you'll find the grounds and interiors of both Manor and Cottage well maintained, clean and comfortable! Non-smoking throughout. (Smoking is allowed in the Manor & Cottage Courtyards only).
The key things that make the Estate tops in our reviews from past Guests: The decor, the comfy beds, the location/location/location, the convenience of offstreet parking in the 4 car driveway and non-metered (eg: free) parking in front of the Manor, the "attic bedroom" is always a huge hit with the kids as well as singles....(Nintendo and board games are ageless after all), the Outdoor Hot Tub at night surrounded by twinkle lights, the charcoal grills, the HUGE Cooks Kitchen in the Manor ,plentiful kitchen accessories making cooking a treat, LOTS of closets (yep....they're actually quite rare in historic homes), the numerous "photo-ops" in the Estate (brides especially love them), the shady courtyards and their tables/chairs and lights, the fact the Estate is hypoallergenic (encased mattresses, decor that is 90% stone/tile/wood/leather) complimentary pickup/dropoff at the door by Trolley/Carriage tours, and lastly...the number one perk of the Estate second only to location is the Estate's sheer versatility in putting up groups of varying ages/gender/families. The flexibility in housing both Grandma/Grandpa vs babies, guys vs girls, couples vs singles, families vs teens, and brides' vs grooms....is the # one fave of my guests over the years.
If all this hasn't yet convinced you there is nothing better than the Taylor Estate for your group...think on this: you get TWO "complete homes in themselves" blending perfectly together with privacy yet togetherness as you meander betwixt each. You get 2 complete kitchens! 2 Courtyards! 2 Living Rooms! 2 Laundry Rooms (actually you end up with 2 Washers and 3 Dryers!)
Nothing beats the Taylor Estate when it comes to comfort, spaciousness, convenience, and versatility. Go ahead...imagine the possibilities! And although the owner rarely splits up the Estate into only Manor or only Cottage bookings, it can occur on rare occassions. **** Currently....the 2BR/2BA Cottage with offstreet parking for 2 cars remains available for St Patricks week- 5 night min required. Lovely 1870's Estate includes Manor/Carriage House Savannah, Georgia
Additional Location Information
Located in the original GA colony established in 1763 ( now known as the Landmark Historic District), the Taylor Estate was built in 1870. It consists of the three- story, 4 BR/2.5BA Manor and it's self-standing, two-story 2BR/2BA Carriage House located behind it. In 2001, the Estate was lovingly restored by the current owner. The Carriage House was renamed Taylor Cottage. Initially it was rented out long term and the owners family lived in the Manor. But in 2007, both homes became one and have been rented out together as the Taylor Estate vacation rental. The private four car driveway adjoins the Cottage and Manor. There is additional parking on Taylor Street in front of the Estate as well. The Courtyards of both the Manor and Cottage open onto the driveway and are filled with lush foliage and furnished. Combined, the Manor and its Cottage form the 6BR/4.5BA Taylor Estate. The Landmark Historic District is 1 mile x 1 mile in size with the Estate located in the southeast quadrant between River Street (with its souvenier shops, weekend street faires and restaurants) to the north & Forsyth Park (perfect for picnics, jogging, tennis or basketball, farmers market on Saturdays and enjoying it's frequent festivals) lies to the south. Museums, Restaurants, Cafes, Historic Home Tours, Shops and antique stores surround you as do the famous Savannah Squares (each unique with a statue/monument and lined with live oaks dripping spanish moss). While smaller, upscale bars/restaurants are close by ...Taylor Street leaves the blaring bars & craziness of Congress and River Streets several blocks northwest to allow peaceful rest at night. You'll waken to chirping birds and squirrels vying for nuts in the branches of the gnarled magnolia tree which fronts the entrance to the Estate. Iron gas-lights stretch down further east on Taylor Street toward Beasely Park where locals let their dogs enjoy the freedom of a fenced dog run, enjoy soccer or the softball field and take their kids to the newly renovated playground. 1 Block to the west lies Whitfield Square. While every Savannah Square is unique, nearby Whitfield Square has its charming gazebo which is a favorite site for outdoor weddings. Across the street from the Taylor Estate is the St Benedict Catholic Church, c1800's and it unfolds across several blocks to the south. The beach is a short 20 min drive. For the past three centuries, everything in the historic downtown district from River Street, City Market, Museums, Shops and Cafe/Restaurants remain walking distance from the front door of the home.
A recent guest remarked... "We loved it! You walk THROUGH everything as you walk TO everything!" For those that don't wish to walk...call a Pedicab (a bicycle cab) to pick you up, hop on the free downtown shuttle bus, or take an on/off trolley tour. Trolley and Carriage Tours provide complimentary pick up/drop off to our guests.

Great choice for a large group on an expensive weekend
Left on 12/17/2014 for a stay in November 2014 | Michelle F
I traveled with 15 of my very close friends to Savannah for the Rock N Roll Marathon weekend in November. This is a notoriously busy and expensive weekend, so we booked the entire Estate early in order to accommodate us all. While there was a minimum stay requirement for this particular weekend, the per-person price ended up being the same if not less than a single night's hotel rate! (Food for thought if people want to experience a fun time and save some money on a busy weekend). Suzanne was very friendly and helpful the entire process and very responsive to emails and questions. I and some of my friends had the pleasure of meeting her when we checked in and she was so nice and bubbly and had plenty of Savannah tips for us. The main house of the estate was roomy and clean and had the character of an historic property with the right things updated (kitchen, bathrooms, hot tub). The location was great, as it was in the historic district and within walking distance to anything you'd need, but also on a quiet street that didn't feel congested. There is parking in the driveway for 4 cars. We had a few more than that and it wasn't a problem finding on-street parking in front of the house at all. The hot tub was a great feature, clean and the right temperature for sore legs. The cottage was also updated, clean, and very cute. My group was celebrating a birthday that went into the early morning hours, and with the doors closed, anyone asleep in the main house could remain asleep. Since there are a few rooms with multiple beds, I'd recommend making sure that people in your group are agreeable to sharing a room to sleep. With the amount of people we had in our group and the comings and goings at any time, nobody felt cramped or crowded. All in all, a great time and place! Read more
The Rock n Roll Marathon weekend is always such fun! Having guests who are runners in it just adds to my enjoyment! Especially as I live right next door to the Estate :). And the route taken by the runners has them running right the Estate (and therefore my own home). They run down E. Broad and head further on south (past our street which is East Taylor) toward those streets that line Forsythe Park. Which means that I "get to" simply casually wake up (to music and cheering), grab my pooch and walk to the corner to join the cheering crowds! My daughter ran it last year. I ran it on its inaugural year. This year, I didn't catch a glimpse of my guests running past me (during the time I spent on the corner of East Taylor watching the race) but I know firsthand the soreness and joy that comes from only having to walk a few short blocks from the finish line at Forsythe Park "back home" to the Taylor Estate. And, of course, its outdoor welcoming and steaming hot...Hot Tub!

This was the first trip to Savannah for all in our party of four. Suzanne was very easy to work with, and very welcoming upon our arrival. The location of the house is in the middle of the historic district, easy walking to everything in that district. Very close to grocery store and liquor store. We walked everywhere for the 3 days we were there. The house contained what we were looking for for our stay. The courtyard is very quaint and peaceful. The decor of the home is very welcoming. One worry I had was the upstairs master suite being a loft. The location of the second bedroom on the first floor and the large area offered for the master made the upstairs being a loft no problem. Plenty of privacy. Overall the location is nice and quiet, and our time was spent with all windows open at night for sleeping.I would definitely encourage people to stay here, it only enhanced our visit to Savannah.

You know...I didn't realize my description of the Cottages' second floor Master Suite as a "pseudo-loft" could create a misconception about privacy! But I'm delighted both this guest and I firmly put any concern that privacy issues could be a problem...to rest! Because one of the four walls of the 2nd floor Bedroom Suite is a halfwall overlooking the stairwell leading to it which then opens directly onto the Master Suite when you reach the top stair....I created (8 years ago)the adjective "pseudo-loft". Figured it was quite clever actually. But now I'm thinking maybe misleading? The other bedrooms in the Estate are on the first floor of the Cottage and the second and third floors of the Manor. (Again...the Taylor Estate combines both the 4BR Manor & its 2 BR Cottage, which was formerly its Carriage House, together.
I have to agree with this guest also that...location, location, location...could not have been better!!

My husband and I met one other couple and we rented the Taylor Cottage. This was a scouting trip to see if we would like to rent the Taylor Manor for a 2015 reunion of 5 couples. The answer is "YES"!
The Taylor Cottage was comfortable, clean and well supplied. With 2 BR and 2 baths it was perfect for the four of us.
One of the best things about the Taylor Manor is the location. Our morning walks around the historic district were wonderful. We could easily walk to the River Front. There are several coffee shop/restaurants with walking distance - we just ran out of time!! Next time we plan to stay a little longer.
It is also important to know that the owner lives in close proximity to the manor and is readily available should you have any questions. Read more
I am so delighted when a Guest stays in "just" the Cottage or "just" the Manor to hear they wish to return to enjoy "the entire Estate!". I only rent out the properties separately during my low seasons but on the rare occassions when I do...it's a total delight to hear tht it has "lured you in" to renting the whole thing!!!

Great place for a girl's weekend

We had a girl's weekend this past weekend in Savannah. This house was perfect for all of us! Plenty of room for all of us! Being able to park in the driveway was a plus as well! This house has plenty of seating for large groups, and plenty of kitchen supplies to be able to cook meals in the house! This house has so much charm and character! If we take a large group back down to Savannah we will definitely want to rent Taylor estate again!
Ideal for large family gathering, everyone can come and go as they please.

We booked the Estate for a mini family reunion for my mom's 80th birthday and had a wonderful time. Our family really enjoyed our stay at the Estate. Everyone thought the home(s) were beautiful and beautifully maintained, as well as comfortable and functional. We found that everything was as described on the website and/or in the owner's e-mails which was great. We also appreciated the location as everything really was in walking distance. Our youngest traveler (age 7) often took advantage of the nearby park to run off some energy and to fly a kite.
The kitchen was well equipped enough for baking a birthday cake as well as a few meals for 14 people. And lots of coffee.....
We appreciated all the owner's suggestions and advice on all things Savannah! Read more
I get bachelorette, ladies/couples getaways, GS Troops, Corporate Groups, Sports groups, destination wedding attendees, entire bridal parties, graduation attendees, etcetera! But...a huge portion of my reservations involve family reunions. The versatility of the Taylor Estate is perfect for them because they can have ages spanning infants to 90 year olds. Having the Senior Friendly/Handicap-accessible Cottage only steps away from the 3 story Manor allows grandparents & those seeking a "quieter" space :)... to escape the rambunctiousness of little ones! And yet join in whenever they wish as well! But any group wishing to separate into two subsets (eg: girls here, guys there; or ...groom family here, brides there; etcetera & groups just wishing to have 6 bedrooms and everyone together, finds the Estate to be just as this guest did..Perfect!
True Southern Comfort!

The Taylor Estate proved perfect in every way for our family gathering! A total of 17 of us enjoyed the manor and carriage house, including 12 adults and 5 children, ages 4 months to 9 years. The description of the house and cottage are very accurate but it is all much more charming than the photos. Suzanne has somehow managed to combine the ambience of an historic property with the most modern of comforts. The kitchens had all the utensils we would ever need and the courtyards with hottub, twinkle lights and grills were relished by all. The location is perfect – parks and playgrounds across the street one way and all of historic Savannah the other. We highly recommend the Taylor Estate to anyone with a trip to Savannah in their future!

The Taylor Estate was perfect place for our group to stay to attend the 3rd largest St. Patrick's Day Parade, which is fabulous. You can even rent bleacher seats! There was plenty of room in the estate and the adjacent carriage house for privacy and enough space to come together in the common areas. Parking in the rear of the Estate provided easy access to both the Estate and the carriage house. The Estate is located within walking distance to River Street, shopping, restaurants and parks; but it is also easy to maneuver around Savannah in a car. Suzanne, the owner, met us on arrival, provided lots of information about the house and the Savannah area, historic tours, restaurant, shopping, etc. We took a historic carriage tour of Savannah which picked us up at the estate and dropped us off at River Street. It was a wonderful trip. Thank you Suzanne for being so accommodating! Read more
Thank you for the kind words. St Pats is truly an "EVENT" in Savannah. While the entire Estate is like having your own private resort in the midst of all the "action"...I have to admit that the private parking in the roomy 4 car driveway remains one of the BEST perks during St Pats ....because parking anywhere downtown is almost impossible during that holiday :). The parade route is only 1 1/2 blocks away so you amble back to the Estate and the street is lovely, quiet and NOT strewn with the mess left behind for the parade...the partying for which lasts for much longer after the parade ends. The bleacher seats my Guest reserved were done through Kelly Tours I believe. For myself, I just put my dog on a leash and walk the route because it is so much fun just to people watch the people watching!
Fabulous for a large family

We needed to find a place for our large family for our daughter's graduation from scad. The Taylor estate met our needs perfectly. We rented both the manor and the adjacent carriage house. Both were spacious, very clean, and comfortable. The carriage house is handicap-friendly and perfect for the older folks in our group. We loved the convenience of the large kitchen in the manor and cooked all of our meals in it. It had everything that we needed for our large gathering. The property had a beautiful courtyard in the back with easy convenient parking that ensured that we didn't have to park on the street and worry about having to move the cars on sweeping day. The estate was within walking distance to everything- shops, parks, grocery stores. We rarely moved the cars. The property owner- Suzanne was very friendly and helpful. She lives next door, which is convenient but once we checked in, she gave us our privacy. She had detailed books in each house with helpful information and everything that you needed to know about the house. The books also had helpful information about the area. I would definitely recommend this to large families/groups. It beat the price of everyone having to get a hotel room.

I brought my Girl Scout troop down again for a trip to Historic Savannah, we were first here in aug 2010. We loved the Taylor Estate so much that we didn't even consider another option for lodging. Having the convenience of a real home with a kitchen and multiple bathrooms (very much needed for a bunch of little girls) made the trip all the more enjoyable! We love everything about the home - the price, the décor, the location (we walked everywhere), the owners! The Schulz family are amazing - addressed our every need, supplied the home with a map, brochures, suggestions, etc. Everything we needed was already provided without having to ask for anything. I will definitely be returning to Savannah in the future, whether with future girl scouts or my family, and will definitely be calling Mrs. Schulz again! Thank you so much for your hospitality and making your home available to visitors like us!

I had 3 families that went to Savannah and stayed at this great location. The homes were spotless and beautifully furnished. They have been updated but it was done in a way that kept the old charm of the historic houses. We had 14 in our group and plenty of space. The mattresses were fabulous, and the hosts were perfect. They were there when we needed them and out of sight when we didn't. I liked knowing that they lived next door in case there was a problem. They have done an amazing job preparing information on everything to do in and around Savannah. There were notebooks full of recommendations for everything from dining options to recreation. We had a great time despite some unusually cool weather, and would definitely stay there again when we visit.

Our family of 15 stayed in the estate & cottage house for our 2012 family Christmas gatering. The house is awesome, very spacious and decorated well. The location is awesome. Minutes from River Street. The courtyards were very nice and the cottage house is really neat. The house accomodated all of us very well including enough parking for everyone. The owners were very nice and helpful with everything. We definitely would stay here again.

I love return Guests :) We originally met Marilyn & Tom when we did a "Home Exchange" with them! (They have a great Myrtle Beach Vacation Rental!). While many vacation home rental owners are absentee owners...we actually live downtown ourselves. We have for over a decade. Our children attend both SCAD & AASU here in Savannah. So, unlike other owners... we live among and are daily customers of the restaurants/tourist sites/museums/shops located all around the Taylor Estate in Savannah's sought after "Landmark Historic District!" Living next door to the Estate as we do, we give Guests their privacy. To that end....I've put my personal recommendations/suggestions into binders for their use. So come and enjoy the Estate, Manor-only, or just the Cottage & be one of our return Guests! The Cottage is furnished with cozy and soft, leather furnishings amidst an ambience blending intimacy & Old World Comfort. You will want to come back again and again...as the Marschells' can attest! :) Or book the 4 BR Manor...or book both...as the Taylor Estate.

My son is a us army Ranger stationed in Savannah Georgia, and met his beautiful bride there. When nuptials ensued, a large part of our extended family wanted to attend the blessed event. We have been cast apart over time, and decided to use the event to get together and spend some time with each other. The Taylor Estate fit the bill to a tee! Everyone, from my 10 year old nephew to my 85 year old father in law, had a great time, and had all their needs met. The Estate gave everyone the privacy they needed, but allowed us to spend great time together. it was extremely comfortable, tastefully furnished, and had a great location that allowed us to explore Savannah and environs. Initial supplies, with obligatory coffee, got us started, and local markets were identified and close, allowing us to feed the contingents. Restaurants in the locale were plentiful and great. My duties with my job(s) required internet access, which was supplied, high speed, and without "drops". Multiple people showering at once posed no problems with hot water or pressure, and having a washer and dryer available helped with limiting our baggage for the vacation. It was hot and humid when we arrived (go figure!), but the air conditioning turned the house into an oasis of coolness, with the weather rapidly turning to out favor. The book of "instructions" told us all we needed to know about the house, and gave us a lot of insights that allowed us to maximize our adventures throughout Savannah. Even parking for our 4 cars, normally a nightmare in a crowded urban environment, was easily handled with off-street parking. I would highly recommend the Taylor Estate to anyone who has a few days to kick back and enjoy the splendor of Savannah! Read more
I love getting groups that are a blend of ages...those with both young children and even babies up thru Seniors! That's where the Estate shines! Between the Nintendo and board games/kid-friendly videos and books to keep the younger ones entertained to the discrete handicap-accessible Cottage with its Senior-friendly yet elegant grab bars and walk in shower & first floor bedroom....it's geared to meet the needs of everyone in your group. Plus, the ability to be "right next door" yet still able to "get away to be esconsed in your their own quiet privacy" has been the favorite comment I hear from the grandparents within family reunion groups ;)....so to hear you reinforce all this....PRICELESS! :)

What a Great place to stay to enjoy Savannah. We will be back for sure as a week is just to short a time to see everything even in walking distance of the house. We would love to work our way through the complete menu of the Pink House Restaurant. Read more
The Pink House is "3 Squares over" from the Taylor Estate....translation: about an 8 - 10 minute walk. :) This restaurant is one of the numerous and delightfully delicious restaurants of the Landmark Historic Downtown District surrounding the Taylor Estate.
If your taste runs toward the romantic and impromptu....head to
nearby Parkers Market and fill a picnic basket from their gourmet deli. Then stroll to either Forsyth or M.M. Beasely Park or any of the nearby Squares and enjoy your lunch spread out beneath our famous spanish-moss draped oaks. Last night of stay...grill in the foliage filled courtyards of the Estate or cook and bake your family favorites in the kitchens that are fully stocked with all you need to make your own unforgettable cuisines!

Awesome Girl Scout Trip to Savannah

Our experience with the Taylor Estate was perfect from beginning to end!
Our Girl Scout troop of 9 girls and 6 adults stayed in both manors for 3 nights and 4 days at the end of March 2011.
The girls made a decision early in the planning process that they wanted to stay at a house in the historic district that everyone could stay together and would be close enough that we could walk to everything. This house was a perfect fit! The rooms were are very clean and decorated very tastefully. The girls loved the old fashioned bathtub on the 2nd floor and the favorite was the 3rd floor "attic" bedroom where we would all gather at the end of the day to wind-down and talk about our favorite part of each day. One night the girls even decided that instead of going on the planned Ghost Tour that they would rather "stay-in" and we ordered pizza, watched a movie together in the living room and the girls went up to the attic room and made up a skit and then came downstairs to the kitchen to perform it for the parents. All in all it was a great experience and I know our girls (and moms) will never forget our trip to Savannah or the memories made at the Taylor Estate! Read more
Awwwww! I love reviews like this where I can remember my own girls and their friends doing the exact same thing!!! Yep, my husband and I and our 2 daughters, dog and cats used to live in the Manor before we decided back in 2007 to make the Manor and it's former Carriage House (renamed the Taylor Cottage since it's a 2 story complete home in itself)....a short term vacation rental (aka: the Taylor Estate!). So....your
review brings back delightful memories and I believe the reason so many guests have their share of the same is due to the fact my decor and bedrooms and amenities were made from "first hand living in the homes myself"- experience. :)
