Getting around

Savusavu is famous for having some of the best roads in Fiji. That's because SSV didn't have much of a road system until fairly recently. So, our roads are some of the newest. These include the highway traversing the island's interior between Savusavu and Labasa and from SSV town to Natuvu wharf nearly 50km. There are 3 wharves on Vanua Levu with drive on/off ferry service. Ferries can take you to Suva or Taveuni. They're not as dependable as airlines and trips are quite long in duration. Best not to depend on ferries when connecting with flights. Public buses pass by Sigasiga to/from town approx every two hours Mon-Sat. No bus service on Sundays. FJ$1.60 Taxis are plentiful, courteous, punctual & affordable. Sigasiga to town FJ$13

Interaction with guest

Bula! Bula! The resident manager enjoys socializing with guests from around the world. At the same time, he recognizes you did not come here to visit him. heehee. Your privacy is of utmost importance. Yet, he is a sociable guy and is available when needed or invited. Resident staff has been with us since 1992 and live on property 300m/1000ft away. They are like family and available if and when you like for virtually anything. Otherwise, because this is such a large property, you will hardly know they are there besides occasional grounds maintenance.

“Quiet, relaxing in a beautiful garden”

Response from the owner Dear Leighna, I note your review is for a stay 5 months ago. We have already communicated in depth personally about this with apologies and corrections. I wrote a response to your Review but I see that it apparently did not get published as intended. I lot has changed since your stay last August, in part, thanks to you taking the time to write us. Ants and mosquitoes are an integral part of these tropical islands. We are an organic resort and refuse to spray poison around the property. But we do provide insect spray which is/was under your kitchen sink. We do our best to help alleviate any inconvenience by keeping all screens in good repair, advising our guests to be quick to close doors behind them and providing mozzie coils that work well when burned like incense outside to repel them. They are not an issue most the year except after rains and in the early evening. Guests rarely use the mozzie nets provided and most Guests understand that mosquito repellent is a good thing to pack when visiting the tropics. We now supply repellent. We have added another Wifi router for full coverage in and out of the cottage. We feel blessed to have faster internet than many places at 6-8mbps. The listing has been updated to point out ‘no cable’ TV. Very few guests watch TV or indulge in our 500 DVD collection. I’m sorry you missed your CNN broadcast. The vast majority of guests want to forget about all that kind of news, and like you say, get to know and enjoy the culture of the locals which is so friendly and fantastic. Our dog, Tuktuk, is a water dog and swims everyday voluntarily. She has her own house with 3 inch padded bed. If she was cold, I think she would avoid swimming at night. She is the happiest dog in Savusavu. She loves the creeks, lily ponds and beachfront location. It’s a shame you didn’t say something so we could have alleviated your stress about it. Many of your complaints could have been solved on the spot if you had communicated with us at the time. All the staff was shocked to hear of your disappointment because you only complained of a couple minor things which we took care of immediately. You did not tell us about the broken salad bowl which we found in the rubbish after your departure. It was etched design glass and does not show age. We only charged you replacement cost. If you had brought to my attention that you were confused the way the 1 or 2 bedroom option was listed, we would have given you the benefit of the second bedroom. But you never said anything about it. We have since rewritten the description. We get some guests who appreciate the discounted option to rent the single lounge/bedroom only. The 2nd private bedroom option is only $25/night additional. But that makes a big difference for some people on a tighter budget as we imagined it did for you. Please accept our humble apologies for not giving you an experience that lived up to your expectations. At only $78/night, it would be difficult to fulfill your every desire. But we do our best. Our recent 5 bubble Review on Trip Advisor is evidence we are doing something right. We would appreciate another opportunity to help you have an even better stay next time. But due to our high occupancy, renovations, and other improvements, you’ll have to pay a bit more. Best wishes in all your travels! Gene Manager, Sigasiga Sands

Response from the owner Thanks so much for writing about us! Your kind words are good reinforcement for us to keep up what we're doing here ever more diligently so future guests may continue to enjoy the SigaSiga experience. A couple minor mentions: the taxi fare to town is now about FJ$13.50 or US$6.50. When you mentioned "recent volcanic activity, I ran for a search online. I was especially curious since I was living on the Big Island of Hawaii for 30 years which is possibly the most active volcano on earth. heehee I hadn't looked it up before. According to my brief research, the last volcanic activity was somewhere between 1500 and 1650AD. As you said though, there is some lingering hot springs activity here and there. I wonder if you enjoyed the Hot Springs Baths in town? Anyways, thanks so much for coming and we hope to see you again soon. Cheers! Gene (Manager)
