Additional Location Information

Saxthorpe is a quiet, friendly Norfolk village surrounded by rolling countryside and woodland. The area is great for walking and cycling. The village itself offers a village store/post office for essential supplies and a typical village pub serving simple food. Both can be accessed from the cottage within a few minutes walk via the old mill and across the village green. Just down the road is Blickling Hall, once the home of Ann Boleyn. A wonderful place to visit for trips round the hall and beautiful gardens, or walks around the lake, browsing the book shop in the old stable yard, afternoon tea or an excellent lunch in the pub next to the hall. Just a little further down the road is the market town of Aylsham with an array of shops and eateries and even better in the other direction some 6 minutes drive from the cottage is the quaint market town of Holt. Renowned for its shops, bistros, deli; plenty to see and do.
The cottage is 15 minutes drive from the wonderful North Norfolk Coast with over 30 miles of coastal path which is serviced by the "Coastal Hopper" bus. Park your car at one spot, walk some of the coastal path taking in an excellent pub lunch or seafood platter and then catch the bus back to your car. The nearest beaches are Blakeney and Stiffkey both gentile villages with smart hotels, pubs and coffee houses or a little further along the coast are the livelier resorts of Cromer and Sherringham. Or travel west in the opposite direction and visit the lovely old fishing village of Wells-next-the-Sea; stroll around the harbour and sample fish and chips, march along the sea defences to the beautiful sandy beach backed by pine forest and edged by colourful beach huts. Travel further west to the famous beaches of Holkam Bay much loved by the royals. The whole of this coastline is a favourite haunt for twitchers especially in the autumn and the Birdlife Visitor Centre at Salthouse is very popular.
If serious shopping is your forte, travel 25 minutes by car or bus to the ancient city of Norwich, or if history is your interest then visit Norwich Castle and museums and the beautiful Norwich Cathedral.
If you are travelling from a little further afield, then Norwich airport is just 20 minutes drive away and Norwich station 30 minutes.
On arrival at the cottage there is ample parking for two cars and storage space in the garden shed for bicycles.
