Description from owner

Description

Seventeenth century stone manor house set in 1.25 ha of landscaped grounds with swimming pool and terraces in centre of medieval Seillans, one of France's most beautiful villages. Enjoying spectacular views over the old town and the Esterel mountains, this historic property provides a unique mix of location, space (400 m2+), flexibility, privacy and charm. All within easy walking distance of the centre of the old town.

The house offers seven bedrooms, kitchen, dining, living, reception and conservatory living rooms. All with beautiful views over Seillans, the valley and mountains and/or our private garden.

Our house has a maximum capacity for 14 persons, but is ideal for families of 12 (or less) with 8 adults. Please note that we have a maximum capacity of 10 adults (aged over 16 years of age), on any single night during a reservation period. This is an explicit limitation provision in our Rental Agreement.

Bath/shower rooms on each of the 3 floors of bedrooms. 1 GB Wifi and free (VOIP) telephone calls to over 50 countries. Beamed living room offers TV with Emby and Orange streaming services, DVD, and SONOS digital music system. Table tennis and table football provided in ground floor reception area. Attached single garage, guarantees local parking.

The House Grounds: The house faces south and enjoys spectacular views over the village, surrounding countryside and distant Esterel mountains. The half acre terraced garden is pleasantly planted with flowering shrubs, fruit trees and lawns. The garden is complemented by several paved terraces, which are each furnished with a mix of hardwood sun chairs and loungers. The shady external dining terrace is furnished with a 3m hardwood table and teak chairs and equipped with a large Argentinian charcoal BBQ. An 9.5m x 4.5m swimming pool, with alarm, is also set in a sunny terrace.

The property lies in the heart of Seillans old town, over looking both the Place-de-la-Republic, Place-du-Thouron and the ‘La Gloire de Mon Pere’ restaurant. The Place-de-la-Republic is the principal village square and provides space for boules and car parking. As the principal village meeting place, the Place-de-la-Republic hosts various village events throughout the year, such as; a small weekly farmers market, occasional antique fairs and the annual ‘Bastille Day’ celebration. As you would expect of such a central location in the old town, some noise from village life is inevitable at times.

The house interior is full of character, attractively and comfortably decorated in a mixture of local antiques and modern furnishings. The floors are set in marble or old Provencal tiles. The accommodation is on five levels, with half-landings between them.

First Floor Living Areas: The kitchen, dining room and conservatory are located on the first floor. The kitchen is approached from steps externally and has a small shaded terrace. The kitchen is fully stocked with all gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and crockery and cutlery sufficient for the number of guests. The dining room leads directly off the kitchen, and has a large oak dining table and chairs and oak side board. The dining room also boasts a wood burning stove for use in the winter. The walls are hung with a collection of Provencal prints. From the dining room a comfortable and light [triple aspect] conservatory/ seating room is reached, which has stunning views over the old town.

Third Floor Living Room: A large beamed living room is located on the third floor level. The room is double aspect with twin windows overlooking the garden and pool, with superb uninterrupted views to the mountains behind the village. Separate double french doors provide access to an elevated terrace with views of, and gated access [via steps] to, the garden and pool. The terrace contains teak table and chairs. A retractable awning can also be deployed to provide shade to this external area.

The living room is furnished with a modern large sofa suite, capable of seating 10 persons. The living room also contains a satellite television, Blu-ray DVD, and SONOS digital music system. An extensive supply of DVDs are contained in 2 large teak book cases, which also house a wide range of books and games.

Bedrooms: At the Ground level are two cool 'summer' bedrooms. The main double bedroom suite is large, with 'lounge' seating area, fireplace and french windows to the front elevation of the house. A further window on the side elevation boasts beautiful views over the old town to the chateau. Leading off the main bedroom is a large family bathroom and further bedroom (2 single beds & cot) suitable for children. Please note; that the second bedroom is only accessible via the main ground floor suite.

On the second floor there are one double , one twin and one further (small) double bedrooms. These bedrooms are served by a family bathroom with bath and shower.

On the fourth floor is one large double bedroom suite, with dressing and seating area. And a further bedroom comprising 2 singles beds . This floor is also served by a family bathroom. All bedrooms contain fitted wardrobes, cupboards, bed side lights and each has superb views over the old town and/or panoramic countryside views.

A large basement Utility room provides modern washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities. Access is also provided to the attached single garage. A further basement pool room houses lounger cushions, parasols and a small selection of pool toys.

“Truly Excellent Property in fantastic location.”

Reviewed 25 Sep 2016

We have this morning left this glorious house busy discussing what we will do next time we are there! Three generation of Knowles 8 adults and 2 babies, plus a couple of extra friends who dropped in for 2 nights have had the most fun time imaginable. As previous reviewers have eloquently described the house provides ample space both to get together for long lazy meals and also time to get away and have some privacy. We loved the simple decor, practical furnishings, multiple eating areas, the terraces, the pool and the garden. Difficult to find words to describe beautiful Seillans. We tried 3 restaurants and loved them all, each with their own identity. We played boules and badminton. We failed to visit the lake or the coast or do anything constructive. Kate -our point of contact, friendly and efficient, was close at hand to answer questions and make life easy. We had a dream to rent a big house in the Alpes Maritime, invite our children and grandchildren and have fun in a special place. This house made that dream come true. To top it all our youngest daughter and boyfriend arrived to announce they were engaged to be married. Happy times.

“Perfect in every way”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2015

This was our fourth stay at this outstanding villa, and I've booked it again for number five. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. Perfectly situated in the center of a charming village, steps from our favorite restaurant, overlooking the park where the villagers play petanque, the villa is spacious, full of character, features a sparkling pool and extensive grounds, along with an upstairs terrace and lower level terrace perfect for enjoying a glass of wine and an outdoor meal. We can't wait to go back!

“Wonderful house in beautiful Provencal town”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2015

Fantastic holiday destination in a glorious location. The house and garden/pool are wonderful with beautiful views all round. Great location to explore Provence, the mountains and the coast with lake swimming very close by. Several lovely restaurants and local shops right on the doorstep. Seillans is such a beautiful place and the house is in a great location with many lovely walks also nearby. I would highly recommend.

“Perfection in One Place”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2015

I have rented this villa three times now and next year I am booked in again. Honestly I don't want people to know how great it is or I will be without a week in the future. The history of the villa and village.. You feel part of the community. If you have a large family or a group of people it works out well. I bring culinary students to the South of France every year (This is my 22nd year) and this has been my villa of choice!

“Excellent house in perfect village”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2015

This was our second stay at Maison Hirondelles in Seillans and it was all as fabulous as we'd remembered it. The house is gorgeous, perfectly positioned, simply furnished but generously equipped, spacious and delightful, with a place for everything and everyone so that our extended cohort of teenagers and adults could spread out at will and come together for long and delicious lunches and dinners. The village is spectacularly pretty with practically everything you need on the doorstep. Long walks to the forest or short walks to the bar, equally popular. We can't wait to go again.
