Additional Location Information

The farmhouse Montecchio lies on the high hills of Saturnia. It is just a ten-minute drive away from the historical village of Saturnia and from the waters of Saturnia and its famous sulphureous waterfalls.
Saturnia, spa and surroundings

Tenuta Montecchio is in the heart of Maremma, in Southern Tuscany. It lies upon the rolling hills of Saturnia, in one of the most evocative districts of Italy. From Mount Amiata down to the crystalline sea of the Argentario promontory, the area offers a wide range of different landscapes and villages whose charm has remained unaltered through the centuries. It is an ideal place for healthy and relaxing holidays.
Saturnia

Saturnia is an ancient village whose origins date back to the Villanovan age (according to some legends it was the first town founded in the Italian Peninsula). It was at the apex of its prosperity during the Etruscan/Roman era. The church of Santa Maria Maddalena and the Roman Walls are worth a visit. The most representative monument is Porta Romana.
The Spa and waters of Saturnia
The waters are sulphurous and have a temperature of 37.5°C. 800 litres of water per second gush out of the hot springs, thus granting constant purity. The therapeutic properties of the waters of Saturnia were already known and used thousands of years ago by the Etruscans and the Romans.

The spa was built in the 1930’s, but its international renown has increased over the past ten years. Nowadays Terme di Saturnia spa line for skin care is exported also to the US.
The waterfalls of Mulino

These spectacular Falls of sulphurous water are produced by the thermal stream known as “Gorello”. Thermal water constantly flows into natural calcareous basins, then into the underlying river Stellata. The entrance is free.
The surroundings

Several sites of remarkable tourist, historic and naturalistic importance are within one-hour walk.

The cliffs of Monte Argentario are only 45 km away, and it takes a 45-minute drive to reach Monte Amiata (1700 m high). The “città del tufo” (cities of tufa) Sovana, Pitigliano and Sorano are respectively 25 km, 32 km and 40 km far.
