Additional Location Information

Nowadays Senglea and the 3 cities is tranquil and peaceful and as such the ideal retreat after a day or night of exploration, adventure and entertainment. By contrast its history has witnessed much conflict because of its unique position overlooking the capital Valletta across Grand Harbour. The original observation position above Senglea point is an iconic image in itself and now stands in the very aptly named Safe Haven gardens which is a 5 minute walk away from the apartment.

Two of the most significant events in the history of conflict involving Senglea are the siege of 1565 and its almost complete destruction by arial bombing during world war 2. The impressive city walls, ramparts and bastions which surround the 3 cities are evidence of these less settled times.

Dockland (or Galley) creek which lies between Senglea and Vittoriosa was the Maltese base of the British Navy from 1799 to 1979 and what was once the British Navy bakery on the waterfront of Vittorioa has been converted into a very impressive maritime museum. Other attractions include the Inquisitor's Palace, the Malta at War museum and the Parish Church museum in Vittoriosa.

There are 4 equally impressive churches in the 3 cities 2 of which are in Senglea which hosts 2 main festivals each year on the 31st March and the 8th September. These are spectacular events which ought not to be missed and co-incide with the Regattas in Grand Harbour. Each of the Three Cities also stages its own Easter Festa.

There are excellent public transport links between Senglea and Valletta and from Valletta to the rest of the island. There is also a regular ferry between Senglea and Valletta. The journey takes less than 10 minutes.
