The ancient city of Seville lies on the Guadalquivir River and is believed to be one of the most important historical destination points in all of Europe. Its famous minaret of La Giralda and Alcazar Palace are just two of the architectural treasures left behind to document the Moorish occupation of Spain. Seville's many museums can tell the story of its history, from its legendary founding by Hercules to its role in the exploration and early colonization of America. Come to Seville in April for the two annual festivals that showcase the lively culture of Andalucia: The Semana Santa, or holy week, followed by Feria de Abril, a long celebration of drinking, dancing, beautiful horses and gypsy traditions. Even if you don't make it here in the spring, you'll still find plenty of things to do in the city.
Here are few suggestions of things to do in Seville:
-Take a walking tour: Take a walking tour of Seville's most important historic sites, neighborhoods, museums, and religious points of interest. Later, you can return for a longer exploration of your favorite stops. Your guide can also recommend some of Seville's hottest local restaurants and nightspots.
-See the Catedral de Sevilla: This Seville cathedral was constructed in the 15th century and is one of the largest ancient cathedrals in the world.
-Explore the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville: This museum houses an incredible collection of the works of old Spanish masters. Many visitors compare it to the Prado.
-See a performance at the Auditorio Alvarez Quintero: This is an excellent venue and a good place to experience the passion of real Flamenco. After this, visit the Museo del Baile Flamenco to learn more about this dance and its role in Andalucian cultural heritage.
-Take a tour of the Alcazar: Visit this historic Islamic palace and learn more about the art and architecture that resulted from Spain's ancient fusion of Christian and Moorish cultures. The palace garden itself is worth a visit.
-Stroll the Barrio Santa Cruz: Explore this ancient neighborhood beside the Alcazar. This is also a wonderful place to find authentic Spanish restaurants and bars to enjoy after the sun goes down.
No matter when you arrive in Seville or how long you stay, you won't have any trouble finding the perfect vacation rental. Choose a neighborhood close to your favorite restaurants, historic sites, or nighttime views of the city. Book a condo or apartment in the heart of the Barrio Santa Cruz or rent a traditional Spanish villa overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
