River Tide Cottage - On Tidal Creek/Big Marsh View

This cottage is truly waterfront and marshfront. In remote, Shellman Bluff, GA, it's just 15 minutes from I-95 and 30 minutes from Savannah GA or St. Simons Island. The closest "real town" is Darien, GA, 15 minutes away. Not fancy, but more than comfortable, the home is all about the water and the dock. It's on a tidal creek just 300' from the White Chimney River, which leads to the Intra Coastal Waterway. The water on our creek is navigable much of, but not all of the day. For serious boaters, there is a public ramp just 1/2 mile from the house... you can actually see it from our dock. If you're looking for a quiet place to unwind, this is it. ...Read more

Additional Location Information

The neighborhood is typical of Coastal GA fish camp areas... the lots are about 115' wide on the river.. and like this one, most have docks. The street is not fancy... it has all types of homes...some nice, some not so nice. But they all have live oaks draped in Spanish moss, some palms, and more marsh and water than the eye can take in. You can crab and fish off our dock. Sit under our palms, pick our back yard tangerines, and sample our kumquats in the winter season. Park your boat or trailer in the driveway. There are 4 very nearby good restaurants with truly fresh seafood... They take the crabs, shrimp, and oysters right off the boat into the back door of the restaurants in Darien and Shellman Bluff... only to come right out onto your table. It's sweet! If you like fried shrimp or fresh crab, this is the place for you. Also, don't forget to golf in Shellman Bluff... The Sapelo Hammock Club is open to the public and very affordable.
There are so many nearby things to do, but they all spell one thing: "Nature" The birdlife is other-worldly. Go watch the pelicans dive for fish on the Shellman Bluff pier. Visit the Harris Neck Nat'l Wildlife Refuge (5 miles away) to observe the spoonbill cranes and wood storks. But mostly, visiting Shellman Bluff is about the peace.... it's about the feeling that overtakes you when you're by the marsh or out on a kayak. It's about dirt roads and no traffic. And be sure to get out on the water.... I recommend letting one of the Shellman Bluff boat captains take you out on an affordable water tour. Also, get in the car and go to St. Simons Island, Savannah, Jekyll Island, or take the ferry to Sapelo Island or even Cumberland Island.... these are some of the last great undisturbed barrier islands on the east coast. All worth seeing. Experience the mystery and sacredness of one the last stretches of the East coast that is truly remote. It's like a step back in time.
