In search of a romantic and stylish get-away? For two people(...or one)? Oh La La! is what you are looking for. Newly renovated on the inside, but the same old Mediterranean glory on the outside. And lots of places to eat and drink nearby.
The apartment is a nice little studio with a mezzanine double bed, a small bathroom and a small kitchenette (a kettle, a fridge, glasses, cutlery and loads of other stuff but no stove top though! Why? Well, who needs cooking and cleaning when it's vacation time, and there are so many small cheap restaurants and snack places where you can eat really fresh products, especially fish). It is decorated in a sort of minimalist yet chic and authentic style, with a few unique pieces of furniture that have been gleaned here and there on various antique fairs in Paris, France and in Croatia.
It is most suited to young and mobile couples, in search of a romantic and stylish get-away, to a friendly team on a coastal tour, or to a single soul looking for a change of scenery or the artistic type searching for inspiration among century old palaces.
It is situated in the quiet center of old town Sibenik, just a few minutes walk from the famous Sibenik cathedral, a UNESCO Heritage site.
There are numerous cosy restaurants nearby serving Croatian, Mediterranean and international food. Among them, elected one of the best restaurants in Croatia, is Pelegrini, where owner and chef Rudi makes your dinner an unforgettable sensory experience. Then, there is also the noteworthy Vino & Ino wine bar and concept store, serving some of the best Croatian wines in a trendy and jazzy atmosphere, especially enjoyable in the long summer evenings on one of the nicest squares in town.
For the best coffee in town you are definitely near "the" place! Giro cafe is owned by coffee-obsessed Zlatko. He will share his passion with you and make you discover special coffee blends every Saturday, when you will also be able to nibble on some croissants from his next door Giro Gusto.
And these are only a few examples of what you can discover!
Sibenik is the starting point to many day trips to the numerous islands of the central Dalmatian archipelago. There is the town's beach Jadrija, where you will be able to enjoy life as the locals do (just don't be intimidated by the southern macho demeanor), or you can explore other islands as beautiful Zlarin or Prvic and of course the world famous Kornati Islands. There is a famous quote of playwright George Bernard Shaw that tells how God finished creating the world but, just before his rest, decided it needed one more thing to make it perfect. So he threw a few stones and made the Kornati.
There are also a few major festivals you can attend:
- the International Children Festival (starts June 23rd and lasts 2 weeks) is the 52nd in a row this year
- the Off Jazz & Blues Festival (July 17th to 19th, 2014)
- the still young but already famous and hip Terraneo Music Festival in August.
- And for you Salsa fans out there, the Salsa Beach Splash Festival is a summer salsa festival taking place in Sibenik. It will give you extraordinary days of dancing and fun in a gorgeous location. July 14-20 2014 (with special guests Super Albir Rojas and Super Leon Rose confirmed for this year! and many more)
-There is also the Medieval Šibenik Fair (for you history buffs) which is held at the end of September on the occasion of the St. Michael festivity (around September 23rd). Want to experience "Game of Thrones" atmosphere? The Medieval Fair is what you need. Archers and ladies galore.
Now, on a more technical note, you can access the town's free wireless while comfortably lounging on the mezzanine bed, or you can take your laptop to various cafes with free hot spots. The town boasts a most fantastic library bathed in natural sunlight thanks to its glass walls, where you can read local and foreign magazines as well as go online for a small fee.
The idea behind the creation of Oh La La! was to give visitors an authentic and comfortable stay but with a hint to vacation nostalgia. That is why we deliberately decided not to have air-conditioning but a few strategically placed electric fans. You can listen to music but there is no TV. A complimentary fruit basket and some refreshments are there when you arrive. And most of all you can contact us anytime during your stay for some assistance in the local jungle, information, directions and tips, for anything that makes a traveling experience more human and unforgettable.
We hope to see you soon in Sibenik and its region. It really is "the Mediterranean like it used to be"....Read more
