About Sicily

Sicily is a complex place that dazzles visitors with its bright sunshine, volcanic highlands, and sparkling coastline. Its national parks offer beautiful places to go camping, and while more and more tourism infrastructure is popping up all over the place, there are many corners of the island that nature lovers will be delighted to discover are largely untouched.

Some of the most popular attractions and activities for visitors to Sicily include:

  • Palermo: The island's vibrant and diverse capital is home to Sicily's most important museums and galleries, and you'll also find out just how seriously the locals take their cuisine when you visit its myriad of restaurants. The city is also home to many Sicily spas, if you want to pamper yourself for a day.
  • Syracuse: One of many UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Sicily, Syracuse has a long history dating back to the days of ancient Greece. Its old town is beautifully preserved and makes for an excellent sightseeing trip.
  • Gela: With stunning scenery lying just to its south and fascinating Greek ruins within its limits, Gela offers visitors the best of both worlds.
  • Beaches: Sicily gets hot during the summer, and you'll find thousands of sun worshippers on its coasts at the height of the season. Still, the weather remains warm enough for visitors to enjoy its miles and miles of scenic coastline all year round.
  • Sailing: Sicilian sailing is a longstanding favorite leisure pastime, and touring the region's outlying islands by boat is highly recommended.

If you're visiting in August, be sure to take in the medieval joust, a ceremony that recreates the Norman vanquishing of the island's Arab conquerors, held annually in the Piazza Armenia.

Vacation rentals offer an excellent way to enjoy an authentic Sicilian experience. The island is home to some of the most exclusive and beautiful beachfront villas in all of Europe, as an influx of investment is leading to further development of heavily visited areas. However, there are plenty of options in all price ranges, both in Sicily's cities and coastal resort areas.

Continue your Italian adventure by heading to the neighboring island of Sardinia. Equally historic and rivaling Sicily's rugged beauty, Sardinia is a wonderful place to visit from spring to fall.

New Apartment Trapani
Lovely spacious apartment

We spent a happy week in this apartment well located near the old town and the sea. It was also in easy walking distance to the boats headed for the Egadi islands. The apartment has three nice bedrooms and two good-sized bathrooms with windows giving plenty of cool air. We liked the restaurant that you find if you walk towards the park and turn left. Francesco was really helpful and even brought us some forgotten items after we had left for Southern Sicily. Thank you!!see more
Sunrise over the sea
Wonderful modern and immaculate beachside house with great views of the sea.

This fully equipped beachside house is actually nicer than the pictures and description. The sea views are wonderful and the home is really on the beach.....you simply have to walk out the back gate a few steps to be on the sand. The owner is very accessible and happy to provide suggestions for touring, restaurants, etc. She is very conscientious in keeping the house and equipment in good repair. I would not hesitate to rent here again and would not change a thing. Late September - early October was a lovely time to visit as the sea is still warm for swimming but the crowds are significantly reduced from summer. Southeastern Sicily has many wonderful towns to visit, not least of all Noto.see more

VILLA OASIS Amazing Private Pool TAORMINA
Exceeded our expectations

Villa Oasis is a place you can stay put, rather than run around. The place offers comfort so you can work or study for part of the day, or just relax and take in the air, sounds and views. Nevertheless there is a lot to see or do in the immediate area if you need to make contact with the world. This was our first trip to Sicily but instead of touring the whole island we opted to hang out, avoiding running from town to town, hotel to hotel, packing, unpacking, etc. Our selection of the Villa and Sicily, based totally on whim, ended up to be a pleasant surprise. Even for the uninitiated, the journey to the villa, including the arrival at Catania airport, the car rental, the +1 hr drive to the highway exit meeting point (with Beatrice, our initial guide) and the uphill journey through picturesque towns, villages and hamlets on steep switchback roads seemed to be a breeze. The villa is perched on a terrace cut into the side of a luxuriously vegetated hillside facing southwest. With its high altitude the terrace is bathed in sunlight throughout the day and has incredible views and vistas. The first thing you notice is the silence, after which you can hear the birds, barking dogs in the distance and the wind. The terrace has luxurious amenities including a pool, an outdoor kitchen, shade trees, furniture and a fireplace. It is finished with porcelain so you can walk around barefoot. The residence is ranch like, spreading across the terrace, with lots of windows and doors to the outside. It has a exposed wood ceilings which gives the place a lot of warmth. The floors, except for the bedrooms are finished with colourful ceramic and are easy to clean. The abundant living space allows us to spread out. The furniture is contemporary and welcoming. The attic like bedrooms with their plank wood flooring, comfortable beds and small windows were very cosy. We arrived in mid October, and stayed 10 days. In October not only do the days get shorter but the nights are cool. Every evening we lit a fire in the splendid fireplace, with firewood that Franko cut for us. Franko is the groundskeeper who is very kind and looks after the pool, maintains the terrace and removes garbage from the property, every other morning. During our stay, the interior was immaculately cleaned by Helena. When we arrived we were received by Alberto, the owner, at the house who showed us all the important things necessary while saying there. While his english was as poor as our Italian, his partner Tanja whom we never met but with whom we stayed in constant contact throughout our stay via the computer, was quite fluent and gave us some very good advice about what to see and do. When we ventured out we took long walks along the surrounding quiet country roads, sparsely populated, with the occasional sheep, dogs or farmer. The walks were through rustic abandoned stone hamlets, sleepy villages, dusty farms, colourful vineyards, shady orchards all mingled with olive, acorn, chestnut trees and cactus. The nearest village, Casalvechio was a 45 minute walk. It is a hill town with narrow streets slightly wider than our Smartcar. Nevertheless, the village has two butcher shops both affiliated with local farms. We frequented one, a surprisingly modern shop that would fit in well in any world metropolis and where we were able to get all the fresh meat, cheese and wine that we required, on a daily basis. As well we dined out in very fine eating establishments in Savoca, the next closest town. We explored across the valley by car visiting the towns and hilltops which we could see from our villa including Limina and Roccafiorita. We visited Mt Aetna whose peak we could see on clear days, the village of Forza D’Agro, with many small restaurants, the touristic Taormina and the beach town of Santa Teresa di Rivera, adorned with specialty shops including hardware, supermarket, shoes, bank machines and gelato, etc.see more

Lovely ocean views and large apartment

Great apartment, large rooms, clean and comfortable with a fantastic view of the ocean plus secure car park within complex. Our host was very helpful and suggest sights to see and places to eat. Beneath the complex is a pharmacy, small grocery shop and a pizza/cafe, bus stop in front of units and a butcher and another small grocery store across the road. We found this a good location to use as a base for sightseeing.see more
