“Plenty of fun discoveries around the Pink House.”
My Fiancee and I stayed at the pink house with a group of friends at the end of April 2014. It seems that everyone who's reviewed it so far has done the house justice with glowing reviews. I will say that it has improved since some of the pictures have been posted. There is a palapa (grass thatched hut) down by the beach replete with several hammocks and tables made from wood stumps. The vegetation in the back yard has now reached jungle proportions and is well shown at night by subtle lights that slowly change color to create a dream-like atmosphere. A lot of places adhere to tried and true "pave that ugly natural wonder" mantra, the pink house does NOT! It is embraced by it's natural surroundings. Birds, lizards, and the occasional friendly wandering dog all share this beautiful corner of Soliman Bay with you. What ever will I do with myself when I tire of this amazing house, you say? Let me tell you! Soliman Bay itself is marvelous. The beach blends into the bay from white coral sands, to a shallow aquatic grass bed. From there it's on to gently sloping sandy floor dotted with coral heads before it meets the reef that shelters the bay from the ocean. The aquatic grass is best traversed with water shoes due to its natural inclusion of lots of coral pieces. Good thing these are provided at the house! (you'll notice a trend here) As you swim out the waves are gentle and the sand sloped down from 3' at about 60 yards off shore to about 10' at the reef face. The reef is a farther swim than you may think at first. It's maybe 6-800 yards from shore. Good thing snorkels, masks and fins are provided at the house! Of course you could always take one of the kayaks out as well and save the swim (trend complete) The two peninsulas that enclose the bay are lovely to walk and offer a really cool view into the natural coastline with hermit crabs, fish, birds, barnacles, anemones and lizards all going about their business. Beyond Soliman Bay, the coastal highway is dotted with big hand-written signs advertising the various cenotes that are open to you. I recommend Casa Cenote which is a few miles south of the Pink House. It's an "L" shaped cenote that is entirely open to the surface, ringed with mangrove, and filled with lovely shoals of fish. The cenote flows from one end, to the other, where the water flows dips back below the earth to make the 200 yard voyage to the Caribbean where you can see the fresh water roiling up just beyond the shore. It's like being in a huge aquarium! When I first heard "Rivera Maya" I thought, "Nice work tourist board!" hahah. But truly, this place is gorgeous and a lot of the folks who live here, have lived here for millennia. Many of the tour guides and local folks we met speak Maya. Spanish is their second language, and English their third. We found out more about their heritage by visiting Coba. Long abandoned by the time Spaniards (insert ominous music here) set foot on these shores, Coba was only discovered in the late 1800s and only excavated forty years ago. Today it features long winding jungle paths that tourists and guides transit on foot, bike, and velo-taxi between the ancient ruins. There is a ball court, lookout tower, and the tallest climbable pyramid in Mexico. I have written a long time, and could write longer! This place is fantastic!
“will be back very soon !”
Fabulous house !!! I am thrilled to have selected the pink house for my 40th bday week! we were 3 couples and had the best of time . we went kayaking and snorkelling everyday in the bay and the mexican restaurant at the end of the beach is amazing ( pescado frito , ceviche , langosta !!!). The bedrooms are beautiful and the ocean breeze coming in at night is unforgettable + the sunrise oh, that sunrise !!! Poncho and Gretta where discrete and made some great meals . It is such a peaceful bay , you really feel the residential vibe and you don't have tourists walking in front of you all day ...I have been coming to this region for 20 years and this was my first time at soliman bay // such a great find !!! loved the soul of this house , will be back asap!
“The Most amazing House on Soliman Bay”
Service // the service from pancho and bertha was incredible.. I would wake up surprised that all the previous night's festivities were already put away and the house tidied. bertha made the most amazing mexican dishes and the two were always there if you needed them. also the Bob (convenient store on the grounds) was fantastic -- every snack you can imagine, both mexican and american. they even had annie's instant organic pasta! and there are a lot of movies in the store you can borrow to watch on those days when you just feel like lounging. the hotel next door has a full service kitchen/restaurant and they were even nice enough to bring the food next door and serve us in the pink house (we only asked when the restaurant wasn't busy, of course!). service from all ends was perfect. Home // obviously the best part of the entire experience was the pink house!! when i first got there i couldn't stop freaking out over how gorgeous it is -- every detail was painstakingly tended to and the work the owner must have put in is obvious but so unpretentious. walking along the beach, the other "homes" (read: mansions) were monstrosities and it was really nice to be in a tastefully built and decorated home that stayed true to mayan roots with its vibrant colors and decor. it is so so luxe but not in an overbearing "wtf where's the bathroom?" kind of way. it is a Great place for people who love and appreciate art -- there are many art/architecture books laying around every room. & it's a great place for people who enjoy the nice things, but aren't .. well, tacky. among its surroundings, the pink house is Truly a gem. Location/Amenities // again, perfect location .. it's right on the beach where apparently the bay is cut off by some reefs so you only get the most perfect chill waves and across the "neighborhood" are cenotes and adventure parks. there's something for everyone in close proximity (golfing too!).. you will love everything the pink house has to offer!
“Fantastic week at the Pink House”
Our 2 families met for a week at the Pink House and it was nothing short of spectacular. The house is unbelievable--full of amazing art, a new discovery around every corner. It has been incredibly thoughtfully designed though is not overly fussy. We had 5 kids under 7 romping around and still felt comfortable. The kitchen is outfitted with major-league appliances and every utensil and cooking tool you could need. The beds are super comfy and the bathrooms are absolutely heavenly--rain showers, huge tubs, great products with very plush towels. You have all of the comforts of a hotel within a house. Soliman Bay is a real retreat--a dirt path with a guard at one end and about 10-20 houses. The bay is protected from winds that affect akumal and Tulum dramatically. There is great kayaking and snorkeling right out your front door and beautiful tidepools with urchins and starfish a short walk away. The pool and palapa at the Pink House make it all the more enjoyable. The housekeeper and groundskeeper made our vacation all the easier as did having some cooking done for us. Lucy was a pleasure to work with and made sure that everything ran smoothly. Cannot recommend this place enough. We are already nailing down dates for next year.

The Pink House is absolutely amazing in every way, really. The location on the bay is beautiful and also a little off the beaten path, making it feel isolated from the tourists. But it's still close enough to Tulum and other areas - and there is plenty to see and do nearby (Mayan ruins, cave diving, zip lines...). The house is very comfortable and very unique--it's a fun place to stay and really reflects the character of the owner, Jill, who was there during my stay. Jill is awesome! There is also a small store on the property that sells basic necessities, which is really convenient.
“for the adventurous family:”
best family spring break vacation ever!!! i never write on these things, plus i would really like to keep this hidden gem to myself, but jill asked to help her out... she recently completed construction on the house, although you could never tell, grounds were well kept and everything ran so smoothly, as if it has been there for years. honestly, i was very hesitant of taking my family (husband + 3 kids, ages 16,15,12) to mexico after everything in the news, but a friend's friend (how we learned of the house) encouraged us. after the trip i have no hesitation of mayan riviera. the house is on a gated lot on a private bay with a 24/7 security guard, i felt as safe as hhi. we are an outdoorsy, active family and there were limitless outdoors activities for us to choose from! i recommend renting a car to get to them, it's really easy to get around. to name a few of our favorites activities: ziplining at xplor, cenote hunting (looking for these natural water holes on the side of the roads), going into tulum for a liquados (fruit smoothies), hiking up mayan ruins, and the monkey hike! jill has great 'local' advice. she had been living there for the past two years building the house and had been visiting that area for over 20 years...her house most certainly reflects that, it's a work of art! it is inspired from her travels around mexico and furnished with local findings. it has so much character! also, the professional kitchen is truly fully stocked. like we do at home, we spent a lot of time around the kitchen (it is very central, beside the living area and its windows open up to the pool area). we made banana and mayan honey ice cream, mmm. overall i would recommend this house to anyone, definitely something for everyone in the family. me and my family had a great time and i know you will too!
“The Pink House - a glimmering escape”
The Pink House was clearly made with love and laughter for love and laughter. The stunning structure rises from an oasis of palm trees, gracing the sandy coast of Soliman Bay with a burst of color just like the flamingo on the lawn of the quirky neighbor way back when. But unlike a plastic lawn decoration, the Pink House has staying power and is truly a work of art. The proprietors orchestrated the construction and design from the ground up and it's truly a pleasure to explore the rooms and grounds. The aesthetic is part arabian temple and part Oaxacan street art, yielding an electric conglomerate of silhouettes and colors akin to nothing I've ever seen before. It's nigh impossible not to be inspired and enlivened by the atmosphere of the Pink House. A personal favorite was the bathrooms. Surrounded by glimmering blue walls, hand-laid mosaics and a Gaudi-like absence of right angles, bath time consistently felt like dream time. And if that weren't enough the Pink House has amiable on-site housekeepers and a pool (the ocean's also a stone throws away)! Between full service and flan it's difficult not to enjoy every minute. This is not to say that there's a lack of local flavor, though. Beyond the smooth stonewalls the town of Tulum awaits with just as much color in the forms of tamarind candies, carved masks and piles of fresh fruit atop flowered blankets. For the less consumer-oriented explorer the nearby pyramids at Coba are a stunning reminder of profound human achievement as well as the area's historic depth. I'm so happy to have experienced Tulum and the Pink House. I would definitely book it again.
“The Pink House was fantastic!”
If you are having any hesitations about staying at the pink house-don't! It was everything my husband and I could have asked for and more. The house is so unique and beautiful, I still can't stop thinking about that huge mosaic in one of the bathrooms. When we arrived, there were clean towels on the bed folded into swans with petals around it! Berta the live-in maid is personable and so nice, and so is the dog. (so cute). I can't decide which I liked better: the days we slept in in that gorgeous fluffy bed, hung around the beach (private access) and pool, or the days we would go snorkeling or zip-lining and come back and cook a huge meal in the kitchen. It was a great trip.

I stayed here with friends during the first part of June, and honestly this house was insanely gorgeous and unique! The view was amazing!! I can't fully put into words how much I loved staying here. Stay here stay here
“The Pink House-- A perfect escape!”
For those of us who don't go to the Yucatan simply to frequent Senor Frogs or the other bright lights on the Cancun strip, The Pink House in Soliman Bay is the perfect vacation getaway!I went down with my husband and a few of our friends. Pictures barely do justice to the unique and eclectic design of this artist-built house. The staff, which includes a maid and an on-call groundskeeper (Pancho!thank you!), provide really great service. You experience both the luxuries of a private resort as well as the comforts of your own home-- as the kitchen is perfect for cooking your favorite "fiesta feasts" and the beds perfect for sleeping in on those lazy, vacation mornings. In fact, my husband and I had the ultimate ocean view right outside our bedroom window! Amazing! The pool was great for cooling off after a beach excursion or one of our day trips to some of the jungle adventure sites (a short drive gets you to snorkeling in underground caves, zip lining through the jungle and other awesome activities). Not to mention, the stunning views of the beach and the jungle that surround you in the outdoor showers! Oh! and I don't think I could gush more about the exquisite bathrooms-- the tub was huge and the mosaic tile work added a gorgeous touch! Our trip to Mexico was extremely enjoyable thanks to the location and comforts of The Pink House!
