Mayflower Park is situated just south of the city centre and three minutes from the apartment.
It comprises of 4.5 hectares of grassland, themed play facilities, multi use games area, with tree and shrub planting. It was reclaimed from the sea in the late 1930’s. It has a café kiosk and toilets on site. There is full vehicular access via a one-way circulatory road, with ample metered parking. This offers easy access to all visitors. A popular and notable living feature is the row of mature Foxglove Trees (Paulownia Tomentosa) on the northern edge.
Mayflower Park is one of the most used of our city parks and continues to be very popular with residents and visitors to the city alike. Being the only city centre waterside park with views across the tidal reaches of the River Test, with all its maritime traffic, makes it a very important resource to the city. The park is especially important to the residents of the inner city estates and numerous new residential developments in its catchment area as well as the guests of the adjacent hotels.
Mayflower Park is a nice area for picnics and to watch the cruise ships arrive and depart. Great vantage point to watch container ships go by.. Plenty of parking . If you Cross the busy road you can view the Old building dated back to Jane Austen time. Theres a little shop for Tea & Ice cream and Open playing field. Close to Isle of Wight ferry terminal. Good restaurants close by. A good rendezvous point.
St Michael's Church stands in the heart of Southampton's Old Town, in its own square and facing the fifteenth century Tudor House. Its central tower is the only surviving part of the original eleventh century church and it gives the building a most unusual appearance. Instead of a rood screen separating the nave from the chancel, there is the attractive stone wall of the tower, with an archway cut in its base giving access to the chancel and a view of the beautiful and unusual east window.
