"Great House to stay"

Left on 12/19/2016 for a stay in December 2016
Me and my family really had fun staying at Rooster Den Cabin. We got everything inside the house. We definitely going back there. Love the place

"Great cabin!"

Left on 07/02/2017 for a stay in June 2017
What am awesome cabin! Our family of 16 had a wonderful time in our week long summer vacation. This cabin is gorgeous, spacious, & clean. The view from the deck is spectacular, especially in the early morning. Our kids, ranging from 2-15, had a great time. From lounging on the couch watching movies, to playing pool & board games, to spending hours on the lake & on the dock, this was just the perfect place for our family. We took a walks down to the marina and really enjoyed the surrounding neighborhood. It would have been nice if the spa worked, but that was the only downfall. - gorgeous home - clean - accommodating - great lake access - most amenities We would definitely stay here again. Additionally, the Big bear Vacations rental company was awesome and thought of everything!

"Great service, crappy beds"

Left on 12/29/2016 for a stay in December 2016
Everything was amazing- except the beds which were awful to sleep on. Our experience with Cool Cabins from booking to checkout was seamless, efficient and enjoyable. We booked kind of last minute and almost everything could be done electronically over phone or computer. The office was prompt and informative. We had three bundles of wood delivered and chose to pick the key up at the house which saved us some time. The house was cute and clean- comfy minus the crappy mattresses. We happen to catch the snow storm the day we left, and CC made sure to notify us early the morning that snow chains would be required to leave the mountain...which of course we had prepared for. Krauts Hacienda especially was cute and quaint. The kitchen was easy to work in, which you care about when you are cooking in every night. The fence was perfect for the dogs and children to play outside. Location was close to everything but not a super busy street. If it wasn't for the mattresses- we would probably book that cabin again next year.

"We love the house, location on the lake and Loren was extremely helpful!!!"

Left on 07/25/2017 for a stay in July 2017
We have stayed in the house many years ago with my in-laws. Now we brought our in-laws back with our kids and grand-kids. The upstairs bedroom with the 3 bunk-beds was a hit with our 3, 5 and 7 year old with their mommy and auntie. The 2 downstairs bedrooms were perfect for my husband (in a wheelchair) and I and our wonderful in-laws. You are right on the lake so whether you are on the large deck outside or working in the kitchen, sitting on the couch watching the Angel game, you have the perfect view of the lake. They also have a large jacuzzi on the deck but we were so busy for the 3 days that we sadly did not take the time to use it. We are hoping to go back next summer but stay longer!

"GREAT CABIN TO STAY AT!!!"

Left on 03/06/2017 for a stay in February 2017
We had a great time at cabin with my family. The only complaint is that the cabin wasn't clean when we check in at 4pm I had to call for them to come and clean the cabin and bed not made and food left in the refrigerator from the last family that stayed there. That"s the only reason for the 4 star review. Cabin was very cozy and a great view and very close to everything in town. Pet friendly too my English bulldog Jasper had a great time in the snow. I would Definitely come back to stay again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

What Big Bear Region Experts are Saying

Food

Laura Ohman

Big Bear Lake Brewing Company in the village offers a great selection of original beers, my favorite is the blonde. Also, gotta try the avocado bomb. It's an appetizer, but large enough for a meal. Sit upstairs, and go for late lunch or early dinner and you can have a view of the lake while dining! Tad pricy, but worth the money.

Nuevo Vallerta is a total hole in the wall just a couple blocks from the village (across from the skate park). Best Mexican food and definitely most affordable! Closest Big Bear has to "Robertos" or other fast food Mexican even though it's a sit down. My favorite meal is the chile relleno plate or Chile Verde plate, and their fried ice cream.

Lastly, if you have a sweet tooth, skip all the other ice cream places in town and head to the Village Sweet Shoppe with the purple door and awning on Village Drive. It's known for its huge candy selections and gourmet chocolates. .. but OMG you HAVE to try their REAL FRUIT gelato. Best in all of Big Bear, and a nice change from Dryers or frozen yogurt. Lots of candy/ice cream stores in town... definitely worth your time to find this one."

Neighborhoods

Laura Ohman

"Everyone visits the village, and yes, this area gives a great snapshot of Big Bear. But locals avoid the village like the plague, since there are too many tourists. Google Map the Starvation Flats, headed towards Eagle point. Featuring beautiful homes it offers a much more picture perfect version of Big Bear. Visiting in late fall or early winter? Check out the Fawnskin area for glimpses of Bald Eagles on the lake's edge."

Family

Laura Ohman

"Most people I'm guessing will say Alpine Slide, Bowling Barn, or Fun Zone for family fun. These are all great options. But they aren't "Big Bear" in their uniqueness.

Try Gold Rush Mining Adventures where you can pan for gold as a family. Baldwin Lake Stables has horseback rides. You can make your own lotions, shampoos, bath salts, cologne and more at the "Bath Shoppe" in the Village Mall near the UPS store. It is a great Big Bear souvenir you'll actually use.

Hike Castle Rock. Medium difficulty, and heavily trafficked by tourists, but worth the view. Take the pirate ship tour of Big Bear Lake. Tad pricey, but worth every penny for the kids."
