"Charming house with great views and a lot of character"
Left on 05/28/2017 for a stay in May 2017
This house is special. I have stayed in a lot of places on Chincoteague Island for work. When I stayed in this house I could really feel the soul of the people who owned it and who made it so hospitable for guests. All of the small touches were truly appreciated.
I could not figure out how to get the lights on in the exterior of the house on the deck.
I was really curious about when this house was built but I couldn't find any information online. Maybe an enterprising person could add it to the listing info.
This was a perfect place to stay for a week and I would definitely recommend it.
We enjoyed staying at this beach cottage! Great location: quiet, yet close to the center of town. It was wonderful having a full kitchen and large dining table. The house was spacious and filled with natural light. The decor was a bit like Grandma's, if Grandma lived at the beach. Don't expect matching dishes, but that's part of the charm. There were plenty of cozy corners with comfy furniture for each of us (4 adults) to relax alone with a good book, or just nap. We even watched three of the movies that were there (totally cool to watch "Jaws" at the beach!). We also made good use of the front and back porches. A highlight was walking across the street to enjoy the sunset on the water each evening.
I rented Half Shell from 7/8/17-7/15/17 for a family vacation/yearly reunion. Let me just say that the pictures don't do the house any justice. The house was equipped with many extras including kyacks, bikes, beach chairs, crab traps, and beach cabanas. We were beyond amazed at the size, how clean it was, and the interior decor. We loved how every room was a different color and the matching themes. The kitchen had a big table which was great for hosting breakfast for family members. The front and back decks were great to sit and watch the sunrises/sunsets. The grill was very convenient for cooking. The location of the house is in a quiet community that is close to the beach, town, and many good restaurants. I would definitely stay at Half Shell again and recommend it to anyone.
This was our second stay at Shearwater in Chincoteague. The first was 8 years ago. The house is well-appointed and homey, clean, with a fenced-in back yard for the dog. It is right in town and only a half-block from Main Street. The town is full of wonderful, affordable restaurants and many family-friendly attractions. i caught blue crabs out of the bay and cooked them for dinner. The house had beach and crabbing/fishing supplies. We brought our own bikes, but you can rent them daily or by the week for reasonable prices. You can also rent kayaks, boats, and anything else you need for fun in the sun! The sunsets and nature trails are amazing, and they are fogging for mosquitoes now, so we didn't get bitten even once! Last time, we went during Pony Penning week, and it was very crowded. This time, it was much more laid-back and easy-going. I highly recommend the town and the house!
