East Cork Rural Traditional Cottage

Cork log cabin

  • 1 bedroom
  • 1 bathroom
  • sleeps 2

“Rural location peaceful break” Loved the light airy feel of the cottage. From the outside you may think it is neglected but inside everything is grand. It is warm , comfortable, ideal for one or two people. The cottage has been totally done up in recent years and lacks for nothing inside. The kitchen has all appliances , 2 rocking chairs for watching tv and a velux in the cathedral style roof that leaves the sun in in the evening to make it bright & airy & on a clear winters night you can look up & see the stars or the moon coming in. It is out in the country & a car is essential there , the nearest bus is about 4 miles away in Knockraha & the train is soon to open in Carrigtwohill about 5 miles. The local pub is about 1.5 miles away & the landlord there was kind enough to drive us back home one night we spent too much time there. For a country area the people are friendly and welcoming We used it as a base to see Lismore , we went to a traditional show at the Booly House in Ballyduff well worth going to see if it is still on when you get there ( I think it only runs during the summer) Went to Youghal , Ballycotton , Blarney Kinsale , drove back to Kerry. It is a good touring base

About Cork

As a result of its surging art scene, live music venues and culinary hot spots, County Cork has been developing a strong cultural reputation of its own for years. Located on an island in the center of the River Lee, Cork is a busy metropolis made up of ancient narrow side streets and modern architectural marvels.

Cork is the center of commercial and cultural activity in County Cork, and it is in the midst of an ongoing process of urban renewal. This means a growing list of new restaurants, bars, art galleries and performance venues every year. This energetic new life makes Cork an exciting and lively vacation destination. However, it's still possible to find a bit of the older life of Ireland within the city and around the surrounding countryside.

Here are a few suggestions of specific things to do and see while in Cork:

  • Go on a whale watching excursion: Take a charter boat trip with a knowledgeable guide and see Minke whales, porpoises and Atlantic grey seals.
  • Go sea kayaking: Rent a sea kayak and explore the shoreline ecosystems of Cork. Or, take a paddling trip through the city along the River Lee.
  • Visit Garinish Island: Situated in Glengarriff Harbor, this popular island offers plenty of natural beauty, along with Italian gardens and a historic tower.
  • Visit Spike Island: This island is home to an old prison and military barracks. Its history is very rich and goes back to Norman and Viking conquests prior to the 12th century.
  • Take a day trip: From your vacation rental or condo in Cork City, it's easy to take a daylong excursion to Blarney, Kinsale and the harbor town of Cobh. See the Blarney stone and some of Ireland's important historic sites.
  • Visit the Blackrock Castle Observatory: Learn about science and the history of life at this observatory and planetarium, a wonderful way to spend a day with children.

You'll never run out of fun and exciting things to do in and around Cork, and you'll also have no trouble finding the perfect vacation rental for your time here. Many travelers like to rent a sleek cosmopolitan condo in the heart of the city, close to the nightlife. If you'd rather stay away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, book a luxurious country villa in the surrounding area of County Cork.

East Cork Rural Traditional Cottage
Great cottage, great location

If you're looking for a well presented, comfy and relaxing place to stay whilst touring Cork and the surrounding areas, look no further. The exterior of the cottage could use a little TLC but it certainly doesn't do the inside of the property any justice. The accommodation is very comfortable and was excellent value for money. All mod cons are provided and the place was very tastefully decorated and spotlessly presented. The owner also has two gorgeous dogs who gave us a lovely warm welcome on arrival! The cottage is located 15 minutes from the bustling town of Midleton and is a brief half hour from Cork City itself. So you are ideally located for touring around but a car is most definitely essential. Fota Wildlife Park is well worth a visit and is only 20 mins drive from the cottage. One word of warning, we relied on our sat nav to help us find the house and ended up coming in the back way to the property through a lot of dodgy country roads. We really should have used the owners far more sensible directions!! :) Highly recommend and would gladly stay there again.see more
