"Lovely trip"

Left on 10/17/2016 for a stay in October 2016
We experiences numerous problems with the cottage upon arrival. The device that activates the modem was not charged. This would not have been a problem had the owner informed us in advance how to get internet access. More seriously, the electricity in part of the house was out. As a result, there was no heat and no TV. It took awhile for the owner to respond, and naturally my husband and I were upset and disgusted after driving 4 hours only to find nothing working. We understood, finally, that a breaker was down. The problem was that the box hiding the breaker was sealed shut (by paint), and until the owner allowed us to break the seal, we could not get the heat on. Finally, the microwave did not work, until we were told we had to push a reset button. That said, after all these issues were resolved, we found the cottage comfortable. Fortunately, the weather was great, and we spent three lovely days in the Finger Lakes region.

"A great place for two."

Left on 10/10/2016 for a stay in September 2016
This was a great cottage for my husband and me. We also brought our mini-schnauzer on the trip and the fenced back yard and railed porch were perfect for him. We found the kitchen well-stocked, the cottage clean and inviting, and the porch lovely. We also enjoyed the bottle of wine the owner was kind enough to leave for us. On another note, my husband had a bit of trouble with the internet connection when he was trying to watch TV through his tablet, but Dixie was very good about getting back the connection. As I mentioned, the cottage was great for 2 people. I do think 4 adults would be a squeeze however. There isn't enough seating in the living room for 4 people so if you planned to spend any time in the cabin it might be uncomfortable.

Area Tips

Emma Temkin

"The Finger Lakes region is one of the most aesthetically pleasing vacation spots in New York. The area comes complete with plenty of opportunities for scenic hiking, wine touring, concert going, water sporting, golfing, biking, and good eating. If you are checking out this area for the first time, there are a few key places you should make sure visit to understand the hype of this pristine location. The name says it all - the Finger Lakes consists of a series of eleven lakes carved by ancient glaciers; Otisco Lake, Skaneateles Lake, Owasco Lake, Cayuga Lake, Seneca Lake, Keuka Lake, Canandaigua Lake, Honeoye Lake, Canadice Lake, Hemlock Lake, and Conesus Lake. Each lake is perfect for water sports, hiking and bike rides. Watkin’s Glen, one of the parks in the area, offers a picturesque hiking opportunity, complete with waterfalls and swimming areas for the whole family to enjoy."

Wine

Emma Temkin

"If you are looking for more of an adult-oriented vacation, try following the Finger Lakes Wine Trail. The Finger Lakes are a great area for wine making, and this wine trail offers the chance to see what this wine-savvy area is all about. The wine tour includes five wineries; Arbor Hill, Casa Larga, Eagle Crest, Hazlitt’s Red Cat Cellars, Heron Hill at Briston, Sonnenberg Finer Lakes Wine Center. Wine tour passports are also available to those who wish to experience the tour in its entirety."
