“Wonderful river view and excellent service!” Sawasdee Jaoo, (Chiangmai greeting) We would like to share our unforgettable memory in Chiangmai, especially Baan Cheep Chang where we stayed for our recent trip. My wife and I had a wonderful time together cerebrating her birthday and I invited my wife's family which live in Chiangmai to have dinner, the first word they said while walking into the house "Wow" even if they are local people but still amazed! The people here were so kind and nice to us, we had all local food either cooked or arranged by them, fantastic. Surely we will return again soon. Thank you to everyone for making such a great time and all your excellent service. Khomchalat and Nui

About Chiang Mai Province

Chiang Mai Province

This idyllic province, nestled in the mountainous area of North Thailand, is a not-so-secret paradise for travelers from all over the world.

Whether you want to immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of the city, or lose yourself in outdoor pursuits, both Chiang Mai and FlipKey can help make your dreams a reality.

About Chiang Mai Province

Chiang Mai is the second largest province in Thailand. But, despite its similar size, it is very different to Bangkok.

If you're looking for a sophisticated metropolitan getaway, Bangkok is where you should go. For everything else, head to Chiang Mai province.

It's more like a rural retreat. But, don't worry, it has everything you need for a fantastic vacation.

Chiang Mai can be found near the Mae Ping River Basin, surrounded by the glorious mountain ranges of the Thai highlands. This provides spectacular views and lots of opportunities for outdoor adventures.

Founded in 1296 and originally the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, it was the cultural core and the center of Thailand's Buddhist faith. In fact, King Meng Rai built an incredible number of temples that you can still visit today.

What to do in Chiang Mai Province

Chiang Mai Province is a beautiful destination with plenty of natural and manmade wonders for you to explore.

Discover Doi Inthanon National Park, and climb to the summit of the highest mountain in Thailand—Doi Inthanon itself. Make sure you don't miss the waterfalls, either!

Explore the city and markets, and make sure you visit the spectacular temples. Even the steps leading up to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep are impressive.

For you foodies, why not try a cooking course? You'll learn how to make traditional local meals including nam phrik ong—a spicy chili paste made with minced pork and tomatoes. Yum!

The adventurous holidaymaker can try their hand at rafting, hiking and mountain biking. But, if you're looking for a more laid back vacation, we'd suggest soaking in the hot springs and taking a leisurely stroll around the botanical gardens.

There are also plenty of places for you to interact with elephants. You may even get to feed them (they like fruit and veggies, just so you know).

Top travel tips for Chiang Mai Province

Chiang Mai province doesn't really get cold, but it does get wet—thanks to the tropical climate. Just remember to pack a lightweight mac and you'll be all set!

If you want to truly explore the city, take a tuk-tuk or a samlor (rickshaw). They're great fun and can wind in and out of the traffic with ease.

This part of Thailand is known for its hand-crafted items. From silver jewelry to elaborate parasols, you'll see it all in the local markets. Make sure you pick up a souvenir or two.

Chiang Mai has everything you could possibly need for the perfect vacation. Just book your vacation rental on FlipKey and start your adventure today. You won't regret it, and you'll create unforgettable memories.

Chiang Mai Countryside Delight

We had a really wonderful time with Max and Lha. They made us feel super comfortable and were ever diligent hosts, helping us out with local advice, encouraging us to go for a bike ride, and instructions on navigating the yellow bus into town. It's super peaceful at their place, and so easy just to relax and enjoy the area. Max has his own tilapia pond, chicken coop, and Lha takes care of the chili plants, papaya trees, and garden. We booked the guest house out back, so were able to cook when we wanted, but more often than not, we enjoyed Max and Lha's cooking. Lha does the Thai food (excellent) and Max cooks up the western food (excellent as well). I'm not one for spaghetti, but Max makes a superb spaghetti and meatballs. Breakfast is truly epic - make sure to have the full breakfast with their home made yogurt and fresh bread. Lha and Max team up on the steamed tilapia (fresh from the pond). Lha stuffs it with lemon grass, coriander and other herbs, and Max uses his 22nd century oven to steam it to perfection - excellent. Besides the culinary treats, their location is a great starting point for a short trip north. Max knows the places. I only wish we could have stayed longer - really the highlight of our time in Thailand.see more
Luxury Villa with Private Van and Chauffeur
Awesome - We felt at home

My boyfriend and I loved this house. It’s beautiful, clean, and very well kept. We felt at home in terms of comfort. We cooked dinner a couple of nights and also had our breakfast at the house every morning. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you’d need to cook a meal. The bed was very comfortable, and I loved taking a bath in the large and beautiful tub. The front and backyard (huge) are also very well taken care of, with green grass and shady trees. The fact that the house is about 20 minutes from the town was a big plus for us. After all day going everywhere it was sure nice coming home to a quiet and safe gated neighborhood. Tom, the driver, is an amazing person. He did everything he could to make sure we had a very good time. He would get to the house eight o’clock in the morning and drop us off around eight or nine at night. Very long days, and he was always happy and ready to go anywhere we wanted. He had great suggestions on what to go see and when. There is nothing like having your own local tour guide, especially with such a wonderful personality. We love everything about this trip, the house, and can’t wait to go back and definitely bring the whole family next time.see more
Apartment in Galare Thong Chiang Mai Thailand
Quiet and comfortable

Situated about 2km outside of the city, Galare Thong is in a quiet area but quite close to the city attractions. Just a 20 minute walk, but if you don't want the exercise then you can pick up a tuktuk at the end of the road. The apartment was very comfortable and cleaned regularly. The bathroom was a little tired and if the door was left closed there was a musty smell as there is no extraction. Not a real problem and did not interfere with the enjoyment of my stay. The kithchen was well equipped and I was able to cook ocasionally during my month stay. Just one small point the microwave has a three pin plug on it, whereas there were only two pin sockets in the apartment. When I pointed this out to reception I was told to go buy an adaptor in the market. This was not the answer I expected, hence I have only given three stars instead of four for service. To sum up I had a very pleasant and happy stay, and would have no hesitation in booking an apartment in Galare Thong when I next visit Chiang Mai.see more

Great place to stay!

We really enjoyed our stay in this beautifully decorated villa with lots of facilities. Staff are discrete and friendly. Villa manager Kim made a great effort to arrange for our transportation and accommodate all our wishes, which included accompanying us as a tour guide. Cook and butler Bom provided us with delicious Thai meals. The villa is located close to Chiang Mai city and the airport, making it an ideal starting point for visits to the local attractions and trips in the area around the city. We had a week full of relaxation and without any worries, perfect!see more
