“True experience of what you envision heaven to be” The personalized service was beyond expectation, from the fishes in the home made pond, the birds in the trees, the animals in the distance, being able to watch the stars from your bedroom, and the boats as they come and go in the harbour was a breathtaking experience. The fact I could walk to the town, to the supermarket, the craft markets and other stores made my experience less challenging and more adventorous. Overall it was a great experience. Will be taking my family there next year

“Paradise Found” The first time I traveled to the Chateau was in 1995 for my honeymoon. Since then I have returned four times. There was no internet then, and only a few pictures provided via snail mail. We were so suprised at the wonder of the Chateau and surrounding area. Getting to the Chateau is the biggest challenge best to fly into Kingston and rent a car and driver. The driver will get you there safetly and then you have care to enjoy all Port Antonio has to offer. The driver returns when you leave and takes the drive back to the airport. The Chateau is beautiful. The pictures on the intenet show the real thing, they are not shot at the best angles, but really show what is there and what you get. The three bedrooms all have seperate bathrooms, so perfect for couples traveling together. The views are spectacular from the Chateua and it will become for ever engrained in your memeroy. The staff truly help to make you vacation spectacular. Nalbert, Doris, and Sylvia are the best. Drois cooks the best food ever, no restuarant has ever compared. She will cook what you want and take you to the store to get all that will be needed for the trip. You will be suprised at the fantasic meals she creates from the shopping adventure. You do not need to go with, but do as it is a geat experience and a way to ease in around Port Antonio. Sulvia keeps the place spotless and always has a huge smile. Nalbert will take care of all of your needs and is a wealth of information about Jamaica itself and the area. The staff are there when you need them and disappear quietly when you don't. Port Antonio itself is the most beautiful place I have ever been. I have travelled through out the caribbean and Mexico, and still is the most beautiful place on earth. The vegitation is huges, the rivers so serene, and the beaches will make you long to see them again. The best parts, there are no crowds. If you are looking for paradise this is the place to be!!!

“Fabulous, relaxing, beautiful, private...” This was my second time staying at Tranquility, (15th trip to Jamaica), My stays at Tranquility, were by far the best! Each stay gets better and better! I love the home, it's beautiful, spacious, clean, private, and the view is priceless! It's far enough away from everything, that you have the privacy you desire, but it's close enough to experience everything Jamaica has to offer. The food the cook made was fabulous, it was wonderful to have exactly what we wanted for our meals. (Helpful if your'e vegetarian, or have special dietary needs- one of us is vegetarian and the other, not). Can't pinpoint what I like most. Meals outside with a beautiful view and flower decorations on the table, lots of sun on both sides of the house, the food, swimming pool...? I loved, loved, loved everything! All of my vacation needs were met, and then some! Can't wait to get back!

“My favorite spot in the world!” I have travelled extensively, but have now found my favorite place. Nothing compares to the experience my friends and I had at Norse Hill. From the moment we entered the villa, we were greeted as if we were dear old friends that had been gone too long. The welcoming smiles of the staff made you feel at home immediately. The accommodations were top notch. All sleeping rooms were ensuite with wonderful linens and tastefully decorated. Perfect for a large group or family with lots of great entertaining space. The surrounding Botanical gardens had generous paths that wound around the 8 acres the home is situated on. Hours can be spent wandering these beautiful gardens. The staff has many wonderful recommendations for excursions that are all conveniently located close by. The meals prepared by the chef were amazing. He made sure we experienced all the local favorites served in a beautifully set dining room, open to the view of the ocean. I would highly recommend Norse Hill to the most astute traveller. My week at the Villa will standout in my fondest of memories.

“Green paradise with great pool, great food, beautiful gardens.” This place was great! You're on top of a mountain so the views are breathtaking. The gardens are incredible with all kinds of edible fruits, neat birds and pretty flowers. Our family loved the pool, with a fully shaded wading pool for our little guy, plus the big pool and a hammock in the shade (only meters from the wading pool so you can relax while they splash). We were there with a big group and spent our nights in one of the smaller rooms in the villa, the luxurious master bedroom was incredible though (even has a beday!) The traditional Jamaican cuisine was fantastic! I would definitely recommend choosing the cook option because it's about a 20minute drive down a bumpy road to get to town, and it's really nice (and affordable) to just have the cooking and dishes all taken care of. The atmosphere was really relaxing. The smaller bedrooms were a little unfinished but the owner said he's going to be sprucing things up a little in the next couple months. He was great about fixing things we asked for (got a new toaster oven to replace an old one, fixed our squeaky bedroom door and got us a waste basket for our room when we asked). The snorkeling and river walk that he set up for us were fantastic. If you're looking for an authentic Jamaican experience this is the spot for you.

About Port Antonio

Miles away from Montego Bay and Negril, you will find a sleepy village at the foot of the Blue Mountains that goes by the name of Port Antonio. Favored by A-list celebrities, you too can vacation like a star by renting one of the many available properties on FlipKey. Browse the selection today and plan your perfect Caribbean getaway!

About Port Antonio, Jamaica

Located on Jamaica’s north coast, east of Ocho Rios, it’s easy to see why Port Antonio has become a secret getaway for royalty and stars across the globe.

With beautiful beaches—and the fact it takes a three-hour drive to get there from Kingston—Port Antonio has a colonial charm not found in other parts of the island.

You will not find any high-octane beach parties or locals trying to sell you their wares or hook you up with a tour. But you will find a laid-back place for travelers looking to escape the world.

Port Antonio nearly took off as a vacation destination after being discovered by Errol Flynn and his buddies back in the 1940s. This is a town where movie stars like Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, and Richard Burton used to arrive at by private yacht.

As the tourism pendulum swung west, Port Antonio went back to growing bananas and fishing but still remains a popular destination.

What to do in Port Antonio

What you will find in Port Antonio is what people like to call the real Jamaica. It’s the kind of place where you eat peas and rice rather than expensive imported food, and drink Red Stripe beer from the bottle rather than sipping a gin and tonic on a veranda.

Most people who visit Port Antonio do so because they just want to laze on a beach and go for the occasional swim. However, if you like to engage in other activities there are plenty of things to keep you busy.

Visit the Blue Lagoon—a spring-fed body of water where the warm Caribbean waters collide with cold natural spring waters. Depending on the amount of sunlight, the water changes color from an intoxicating green to a deep sapphire blue.

Have a local fisherman take you out for a day of snorkeling or fishing in his brightly colored wooden boat—that's a great day out!

Top travel tips for Port Antonio

With Caribbean temperatures hardly ever changing, the best time of year to visit Port Antonio is mid-November through December when airfares are low. Peak season is January through March with most of the rain falling during the summer—which is also when you may encounter a hurricane.

With slippery rocks around the beaches and jungle waterfalls, be sure to bring a pair of shoes that you can wear while in the water.

There’s no shortage of ways to enjoy eating like a local. You can sample the freshest of seafood, taste the spice of jerk chicken and the unusual flavours of curried goat with fruit and vegetables. Just the way Mother Jamaica intended them to be.

Port Antonio is perfect for solo travelers and families looking for a safe Caribbean vacation where they can relax while enjoying the white sandy beaches and warm gin-clear water of Jamaica. To find your slice of island paradise, browse all the rentals available on FlipKey. There’s something for your individual accommodation and budgeting needs.

The Right Place for the Right Traveler

For the adventure traveler who finds charm in the rustic, this place is a great value. Compared to resort expectations, it is thin on amenities, but I've been here twice and have always found it comfortable and very friendly. Insects are an issue, but they weren't bad enough to dampen my stay at all. It all depends on what for you equals comfort and what minimal amenities you feel you need. The best thing to do is just to call and ask questions to see if this meets your desires. It certainly met mine. The cabins were clean with nice touches and sit on the side of a hill. There is a steep climb up a path of stone stairs to the cabins, but once you are up there you are rewarded with a beautiful view of the town below and the bay beyond. I found the view along with the jungle-like setting with its many fruit trees to be inspiring and a great place to write. There generally is pleasant breeze that makes even a hot day feel comfortable, and while it can rain quite a bit at times, it is often short and it still manages to have a lot of sun. The town is noisy, often into the night, but there were also regular periods of quiet and calm. While this town is off the beaten path from some of the more well-known tourist areas, many Jamaicans I met from around the island said Port antonio and the surrounding parish of Portland is their favorite place in Jamaica. I can see why. It has interesting sights and potential adventures, and again, for the right kind of traveler this is a great deal.see more

New Years Eve 2011

We love Spicy Hill Villa! We have no complaints. The staff was gracious and helped us with any and everything. The food was great Denny was able to cook us anything we wanted. The rooms are spacious and we loved the open feel of the house. The area on which the villa sits is big enough to have a small event or plays games like badminton and football. It would be great for a family with kids. Lots of space to play and relax. We also made use of the games room by having many pool and table tennis tournaments day and night. Overall it was a great experience and we will be staying at Spicy Hill Villa again in the future! Thanks for a great new years eve =)see more

Shotover Gardens Estate-Villa with Pool
My private piece of paradise

I have been to Jamaica several times before, and loved it, so I was expecting a great trip this time also. Shotover Gardens was just great! The views, the landscaped grounds, the pool, the privacy. After being there a few days I realized what I liked best: the complete comfort. No, this is not a high end luxury resort with people waiting on you; you will have to make your own drinks and open your own beers. But it is a terrific place to relax and soak up everything great about Jamaica. I stayed in the cottage. It is plenty roomy for 1 or 2 (hey, it's bigger than my apartment). It is modern and functional, with a full kitchen and hot shower. It is not fancy or pretentious. But the part of the cottage I enjoyed most was the back patio facing the Blue Mountains, or the azure ocean view, depending which way you turn the chair (there are some tough choices you have to make while staying here...). I wish I had a book to write, I would do it from this patio. Truth is, I didn't spend a lot of time in the cottage except for sleeping. I spent more time at the pool. (Is my elbow sore from opening the fridge at the pool?) The views are great from here too. I don't know how often the villa and cottage have guests at the same time, but I'd bet it's rare. For my stay I had Shotover Gardens to myself, not counting the hosts (and the sometimes groundskeepers). The hosts are friendly without being intrusive and can answer any local question, whether it's where to buy something or to recommend a day trip or the finer points of Jamaican culture. I also must comment on the cottage price. The grounds, pool, views are worth the price while sleeping under a tarp! And you get the cottage too. Unbelievable! I was very surprised to find high speed wireless internet. I will be back!see more

Beautiful Hilltop Retreat

This was our first visit to Jamaica and our stay at Norse Hill far surpassed our expectations. The view & breezes from the estate high on a hill above the beautiful Carribean Sea was amazing, with180 degree views of the ocean and lush adjacent hillsides. The main house was expansive and the layout afforded us the option of gathering together for dining/talking but also had private areas for reading/napping. The new separate cottage next to the main house is very quaint with gorgious craftmanship evident in its woodwork and furnishings. From the time we arrived (late at night) to departure, the staff including Leston, Wayne, Andre' and the ladies gave us the Royal treatment, and we became fast friends. They took care of all the tasty meals, clean-up, housekeeping and anything else we needed. Yvonne was always available to book any excursion we wanted and provided terrific guidance and knowledge of the area. We did many excursions but the two favorites were trips to Frenchmens Cove and the Blue Lagoon, both with waters as clear & turquois blue as any we've ever experienced. We hope to return someday soon and would recommend Norse Hill to any large families or groups of 4-5 couples wanting something a bit more laid back than the usual all-inclusive mega resorts.
