About Put in Bay

It’s said that Put in Bay takes its name from schooners in the 1700s, whose crew would ‘put in’ to the bay to wait out bad weather on Lake Erie. Since the 1800s, the village has been a popular summer resort, with plenty of family-friendly activities and events happening.

You’ll find some of the freshest seafood around served at lakefront restaurants here, from Alaskan King Crab and shrimp to perch – some of these restaurants even have harbor taxis and moorings, so you can bring your own boat!

The nightlife here is lively too, from sports bars with great happy hour deals to tiki bars that stay open until the wee small hours. All this action ensures Put in Bay attracts groups of friends and couples as well as families.

What to do in Put in Bay

For stunning views, take the elevator to the observation deck of the 352-foot high Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial. The monument commemorates Commodore Perry’s victory here in the Battle of Lake Erie in 1812.

There are plenty of activities for families – one of the most popular is a trip to Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center, with its butterfly house, mini golf course, and giant maze. 

Adventure Bay Amusement Park is home to one of the few virtual bowling lanes in the country, while the Aquatic Center has live fish displays and plenty of interactive exhibits for kids. Don’t miss a trip to the Chocolate Museum either, where you can taste one of 100 different types of chocolate! This goes down an absolute treat with most visitors to the area.

The small size of Bass Island means that the best ways to get around are on foot, or by bike, moped or golf cart. Whilst you can bring your car over from the mainland, speed limits are low, and it’s not really necessary.

The warmest months to visit (when all the attractions are open) are from June to September, when temperatures average around 75 degrees Fahrenheit. June and August can see some showers though, so pack your umbrella!

Upon arrival the outside looked a little rough with large holes in screens and the back deck covered in leaves. Entering the home it was clean, but seemed very dated. The oven did not work, maintenance was contacted and stated a new one had to be ordered and wouldn't arrive until we left. The sink in the master bath constantly dripped. The sweeper didn't work very well. The grill was so filthy with grease when we tried to light it, it partially caught fire. And when moving the coffee to sweep one of the legs just fell off. For a 3 night stay at over $2000, I was expecting more. … see more
