RESIDENZA SANSONI easy & quite -Navona - Vatican

Rome apartment

“Location, location, location” The very best aspect of this apartment was for sure the location - just a few blocks from Piazza Navona and across the bridge from the Vatican. This is a studio apt and three adults were very comfortable. The bed is actually a murphy bed, but adequate for a short stay. Bathroom is renovated and bright. Apartment was also on a quiet street, so no trouble resting after a full day of touring the sights. I have to add, though, that the kitchen is not very well stocked - just the bare minimum utensils/plates, etc. so plan ahead if you plan to cook. We had some trouble finding the place, and after some negotiating at the tourist kiosk, Olivia arranged for someone to come find us and escort us which was very much appreciated. Enjoy beautiful Rome!

“Good location - friendly host.” The apartment was very clean and comfortable and Pino was extremely friendly and helpful with lots of good tips and information. He kept in touch by text throughout our week long visit. The area is local and not touristy, the apartment is set back in a block away from the road. There is a small supermarket across the road, and a market nearby and a good takeaway pizza restaurant. Access to the centre is very easy with a choice of buses and the tram only a few minutes walk away. The garden is a bonus for evening meals outside. When we stayed it was extremely hot, 38 degrees all week, there is a ceiling fan in the main bedroom but the other room where our sons were staying would have benefitted from a couple of portable fans. The mosquitoes were also out in force so I would advise plenty of deet insect repellent and citronella candles in the height of summer, there is fly screen on the main bedroom windows but not on the others. Make sure you pre-book the Vatican museums so you skip the queues which are very long, the bus around the corner takes you almost directly to St Peter's Square. It is also worth pre-booking tickets to the Colosseum. The park over the road is ideal for a leisurely Sunday picnic and makes a change from the hustle and bustle of the city. We would stay again but we would probably choose Spring or Autumn.

The Spanish Steps Apartment on Via della Mercede - Free Airport Pickup!

Rome apartment

“We will return to this perfect apartment!” My husband, mother, sister-in-law and I stayed at the Spanish Steps Apartment on Via della Mercede for 5 nights at the end of October. Our stay here was perfect in every way. The owner, David, was incredibly helpful with the booking process, assisting with logistics, and making recommendations. After long flights from the USA, we greatly appreciated David arranging for a complimentary car service from the airport to the apartment. We were met at the apartment by the manager who helped us settle in quickly, left us with groceries, and oriented us to the city and nearby attractions. She also arranged our transportation back to the airport. The apartment is more spacious than it appears in the pictures, exceptionally clean, quiet and comfortable. We had everything we needed including access to a laptop, WIFI, and printer. We had plenty of room and privacy for four guests. The location is perfect for getting to all the major sites either by walking or by the nearby taxi stand (public transportation is also close by, we just didn't happen to use it). The neighborhood is safe and charming. A favorite restaurant recommended by David and within walking distance was Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino. David also recommended a company that offers personalized tours with private guides, called Rome and Tuscany Tours. We booked a scooter tour of the city, a walking tour of ancient Rome, and a day trip to Pompeii and Positano, and all were excellent and unforgettable experiences. We really can't say enough about our wonderful experience with The Spanish Steps Apartment on Via della Mercede and our host, David. We look forward to our next trip to Rome and staying again at this lovely apartment.

“Modern apartment/great location” The apartment was modern, clean, very well lit and fabulously located. We were able to walk everywhere and enjoyed many good restaurants in the area as well. Francesco was a gracious and accommodating landlord who had information in the apartment for restaurants, sight seeing, maps and almost anything else you would want. We very much enjoyed our one month stay in Rome at this comfortable and well-appointed apartment.

“Amazing Location” The apartment is literally down the street from the Colosseum. You see it at the end of the street to your left as you exit the building. Antonella was wonderful to deal with. She was always quick to respond and was very helpful. She was there at the apartment at the time that we had agreed on and gave us a quick run through of everything, The apartment has all you could want for your stay. A lovely well stocked kitchen, a good sized bedroom and bathroom and a nice sitting room. The apartment gets lots of light and looks over a beautiful court yard. Another amazing feature about this place is it is quiet! You are in the middle of all of the action yet the apartment is very peaceful. The only set back was the bed was small. It is about 4 feet across and the equivalent of a twin size bed in Canada so it was a squeeze for my six foot husband and I. The bathroom is really nice and the whole apartment had been freshly painted before we arrived with a new security door put in place. We felt more than safe leaving our valuables in the room as we explored Rome for the day. It is about 15 min walk away from the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. About 30 min walk from the Vatican and the Castle. The Colosseum and the Roman forum are at your door step. Great place and Great location!

“Loved the GreenSugar Home in Rome” After touring Italy and France for a month, staying in individuals' apartments, the GreenSugar Home was my favorite. Our family of 5 fit comfortably, and the kitchen was just large enough for us to cook in most nights. The neighborhood was a wonderful location, near one of the most fabulous local, open markets in the city, with plenty of other shopping available and easy access to the whole city. The host Cristina was a delight. Very responsive and helpful. Loved it!

“Highly recommended Roman apartment” My family and I recently enjoyed a weeks stay in this lovely apartment. The price was very reasonable for the amenities and location provided. Our stay was very comfortable and it didn't take long to travel to any of the major sightseeing locations. Gabriele was a very gracious host throughout the stay and was happy to help. Would definitely recommend this apartment, especially as an alternative to a hotel. Thanks again for your hospitality Gabriele.

“Clean, Great area, and fully renovated. 100% satisfied!” We were welcomed by Giacomo, the owner, he took the time to show us in the map the places we had to see. He even walked us to a nearby restaurant. The place was Super clean, fully equiped with what we needed. Everything is new. It has a nice patio on the back. We felt safe walking in the neighborhood at night time. We'll rent it again next time we visit Rome.

“Perfect apartment in the middle of Rome” My husband and I stayed here during our recent trip to Rome and could not have been happier. The apartment is within walking distance to many of the sites is the city, i.e. Palentine Hill, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, etc. We even walked over the Piazza Navona and Campo de Fiori one of the days. There are tons of great restaurants within walking distance as well. This apartment is also right by the Metro, which made it very easy to get to the Vatican and some of the other sites a bit further out. The apartment itself was fantastic. Very modern bathroom and a fully stocked fridge! We loved being able to make ourselves a Nespresso every morning that we sipped while we planned our daily activities. Clara even left us the most delicious blood orange juice, which was a treat for us americans :) The neighborhood is quite lively on the weekends with lots of little bars in the area. The one downfall was the height of the ceiling. My husband and I are both close to 6 feet tall and had to worry about bumping our head on the door frame coming in and out of the apartment. If you are on the shorter side, this place will be perfect for you. However, if you are over 6 feet tall, you may be crouching your entire time in the apartment. Overall, the place was wonderful and we will book it again our next time in Rome.

“Comfortable apartment in excellent location” We stayed here for 5 nights recently. After a warm welcome from Lucia who kindly let us leave our luggage in the apartment after our early morning arrival in Rome we went for a stroll and within no time found ourselves in the impressive St Peter's Square. Very handy location for the Vatican and close to trains and buses to get to all parts of Rome. Some nice restaurants and excellent gelato nearby. Good aircon for the hot Rome days in late June, comfortable beds and lovely rooftop views. Lucia was excellent to deal with from start to finish and we had a wonderful stay in Rome with this great home base.

“Wonderfully relaxing, but convenient to get to Rome.” Stefano is the bomb and the apartment is very comfortable. we had a bit of a car emergency on the way, and he was extremely gracious about allowing us to change our dates of arrival/departure at the last minute. Absolutely fantastic communications and support. The apartment is in one of the 4-5 buildings located within a large gated area so your kids can run around and play very safely. It is far enough from Rome that you are almost "rural", but close enough to drive to the metro, park, and get into the city for the obligatory touristy things. It was great to get out of Rome - very hot, busy, crowded. The first morning we were delighted to hear the "hee-haws" of the pet burros (no, they did not wake us up). The apartment has screens! Which means you can see and smell the great outdoors, without the bugs. The beds are comfortable, and there is plenty of space. The kitchen was very user-friendly, lots of pots, dishes, and utensils. The shower was a little small, but still very nice with a rain-shower. Plenty of towels, linen, etc. Highly recommend.

About Rome

Once considered the capital of the entire western world, Rome is still a thriving and passionate city, a vital center of business and enterprise, and a rich trove of culture, art, and archeological treasures. The simple sights will stay with you, old men arguing on a bocce court, a woman in stilettos buzzing by on a Vespa, sparrows quarrelling over crumbs in the Trastavere, or nuns strolling across the Piazza Santa Maria past artists displaying their work.

The best way to experience Rome is stay here for a while. Rent a villa in the nearby countryside with views of endless vineyards, or find a vacation rental with a piazza where you can enjoy a glass of wine with your love as the sun goes down. Even if your schedule won't allow you to stay for more than a weekend, you can still find a bit of luxury that can make this beautiful region of Italy feel like home.

Here are a few additional suggestions of things to do in Rome:

  • Take a cooking class: There are many fine restaurants in the city where you can experience the unforgettable cuisine of Rome. Spend an afternoon in a cooking class and learn how to bring some of these flavors home with you.
  • St Peter's Basilica: Originally built by Constantine in the fourth century, St. Peter's Basilica is now considered one of the world's great works of artistic and architectural genius. Its breathtaking dome draws more than 15,000 visitors a day.
  • The Coliseum: A relic of Rome's ancient history, this structure was once an enormous stadium where gladiators fought to the death and wild animals were turned loose on prisoners for the entertainment of bloodthirsty citizens.
  • The Pantheon: The Pantheon is a 2000 year old temple to ancient Roman deities that is now one of Rome's most iconic sites.
  • The Trevi Fountain: This is Rome's largest public fountain, designed in 1732 and featuring a baroque chariot pulled by seahorses and driven by Neptune, the god of the sea.
  • The Vatican Museum: Actually a complex rather than a single museum, the Vatican collection contains religious treasures from all over the world.

Traveling in and around Rome is easy. The public transportation system is efficient and affordable, and it's also simple enough to rent a car if you dare to brave the traffic. Train trips and day trips north and south of the city can take you to surrounding sites like the famous abandoned city of Ostia Antica. And when you've absorbed all the art, culture, and history you can handle, it's easy to find an affordable apartment rental or condo where you can relax at the end of a busy day.

Windy City

Awesome location; good apartment; clean; well supplied; perfectly designed; check in and check out processing was the best I have experienced; wonderful shopping and restaurants right outside the door; centrally located in an upscale area; owner extremely helpful with information. Only a couple of suggestions: have a couple of English television stations available on cable for renters...tell potential renters the three floor climb (47steps one way) to the apartment is a little challenging for senior citizens who my have knee issues, hip problems, shortness of breath conditions, etc. especially after a long day of site seeing or caring up bags of groceries.see more

Monti, is great

We have been here 4 days. The neighborhood, restaurants, people are wonderful. The train station is a short walk and the central market has great foods. The colosseum is a few blocks, away, and it's a short walk to Trevi fountains, Spanish steps. The apartment is comfortable, the terrace is a place we spend a lot of time. We have just begun our adventure as we'll be her most if the month.see more

Good value for the money

We enjoyed our stay in Rome in this apartment. We arrived in Ciampino Airport, and in almost 1 hour we reached the apartment by public transport ( Bus to Anagnina metro station and than metro line A to Lucio Sestio station where Paolo was expecting us) The apartment was very close to the metro station, in a quiet area. There are a few restaurants a few minutes walk, and also shops and mini markets. The rooms were a bit cold in late november, but there were 2 heaters which came in handy. It would have been nicer if there were a wi-fi available. You can reach the city center in about 15 min by metro A. All in all, it was a nice apartment for a good price.see more

Wonderful Terrace

We stayed for 10 nights in this great apartment with a wonderful terrace. What a pleasure to come home exhausted from a day seeing the sights to relax with a glass of wine and see St. Peters in one direction and the Palatine Hills in the other. The washing machine allowed us to take only our carry-on for baggage. The neighborhood of Trastavere can't be beat for convenience and great restaurants.see more
