“the most perfect pet friendly place to stay” This place was amazing, all the little extras was such a special touch. The location was so close to the state park to go hiking. And the peace and quiet at the cabin was the best. Will definitely be returning.

“Exquisitely serene.” My spouse, 2 dogs, and I stayed for 5 nights. We were delightfully pleased with the solitude of the setting and the uniqueness of the cabin. All is as described ,we have no complaints, and will return. We have stayed many places in search of the perfect city escape-now we found it.!

“Very Enjoyable!!!” This cabin was everything we needed and more. This was mine and my husband's first time away since we had children. This was so enjoyable, the cabin was perfect. We actually plan on coming back and bringing our children. It is so quiet we could hear the leaves fall. The owner was so helpful and very nice. I will for sure be back soon.

“Great location for a quite getaway” I booked this cabin for my wife and myself for our anniversary. The weather did not cooperate as it rained heavily on the day we arrived. The family that owns this cabin are very nice and will help with any needs. I had to have them bring a tractor and pull my van out when I got it stuck on the wet loose gravel and there were no complaints. We enjoyed ourselves in this quiet wooded setting and saw wildlife just outside the cabin. We walked down to the river which was muddy and rolling by due to the rain. We drove in to Beattyville for lunch and supplies and ate dinner at Red River Rock House. Other than those 2 excursions. we spent the rest of our weekend at the cabin and walking around the property. Our overall experience was quite enjoyable and is worth repeating.

About Slade

Slade is the go-to place for climbers looking for an adventure. But, even if climbing isn’t your thing, there's plenty for you to do.

Set up base in one of our Slade vacation rentals and have the trip of a lifetime!

About Slade, Kentucky

Right in the heart of Powell County, Slade is a fantastic place to go for an adventure.

You'll be surrounded by like-minded people (adrenaline junkies mostly) and have lots of opportunities to explore the wilderness.

One of the main attractions for visitors is the Natural Bridge State Resort Park. The views will take your breath away (if you aren’t already breathless from the hike up!) and the natural bridge itself is a must-see.

Climbers flock here to scale the Red River Gorge. You may recognize it from the 2004 documentary movie ‘Red River Ruckus’. Even if you're not a climber, you should check it out during your stay.

Slade, Kentucky is something of an undiscovered gem. So, we say go now while it's still a secret! Enjoy the quiet, peaceful town and the adventures it has to offer.

What to do

First things first, you must explore the Natural Bridge State Resort park.

Follow the trails, or take a guided tour… you'll find out a lot more about the area that way. You can also try climbing and hiking while you're there.

Make sure you see the natural sandstone arched bridge that has stood for centuries. There's nothing else quite like it.

There are fantastic views from almost everywhere in the park. In the summer months, you can take a 'Wildflower Walk' and see the park in all its glory.

If you're up for a bit of fun on the river, go kayaking or canoeing. The water's shallow, which makes it a great option for a family day out.

Then, there's the Kentucky Reptile Zoo. Watch the creatures go about their business while your tour guide tells you all about them. There's snakes, frogs, lizards – even an alligator or two!

You can hold one if you want, or just watch the experts as they extract venom from the snakes. It's a research center, too, so you're sure to learn a lot.

Top Slade travel tips

Slade is just an hour's drive southeast of Lexington on Highway 33. Driving is the best way to get here as it lets you enjoy the scenic view at your own pace as you enter the park.

Don't worry if you don't have any climbing gear. There are plenty of places to rent equipment. If you've never done it before, we suggest taking a few lessons before scaling the inclines. And, remember to pack your walking boots! You're going to need them.

The town itself is a friendly neighborhood that oozes southern hospitality. There are loads of places to eat – just remember to tip well, as gratuity is not included.

For an action-packed rock climbing adventure, you can't go far wrong with Slade, Kentucky. Grab your Slade vacation rental on FlipKey and get going!

Great Location

This cabin was in a great location! Close to hiking, the Natural Bridge Park, and Mill Creek lake. The main reason for our getaway was to see the Natural Bridge, which is down the main road. Check in was super quick. The cabin had 2 bedrooms, we didn't even need the upstairs. There is a balcony off the bedroom, nice view of the trees each morning. The balcony in the back seemed slightly unsteady, it needs replaced or at least some boards eventually. It was fine to hang out on though. There is a charcoal grill, so don't forget charcoal if you plan to grill & foil. There are also a few restaurants close by. The bed was comfy, which is always an unknown when you stay somewhere. We had no issues with that. The TV didn't work 95% of our time in the cabin when we tried to watch it in the evenings. Its a dish and the trees are in the way. The firepit is kind of out in the middle of this cabin and the next, in case your looking for that to be more secluded, this wasn't. The hot tub was nice, but it's at basement level. The basement has a ping pong table and had everything you need to play. All in all, this was a nice cabin and I would recommendsee more

Epic, another one for the Book!

One of those I had a close call exsperiance that changes you. So I decided to find a place to celebrate my birthday this year, but really just to Celebrate LIFE itself. I truly stumbled accross this Cabin and Location on the internet . Took a shot and hit the jack pot! This cabin is so much fun and filled with great Karma. You can feel it from the owner and all those who have stayed their befor you. In fact there are a number of books filled with short notes written by people of all ages who have shared something about their stay. I was fortunate to have some very fun and loving family join me. I give the cabin itself 5 stars just for the art work. LOL it's truly awsome. However ther is so much good Karma and positive energy coming from the the property that you feel it as soon as you drive up. And for me to then walk down that great long coverd porch and open the front door and see where we would be staying ! It was Amazing, personality, comfort, feel of home, lots of room, clean, warm. Now not in my exsperiance ( LOL ) but it could be a very romantic getaway. It sleeps 8, and that's a good number to vision the Cabin would be FULL with 8 guest. The walk up to the Stone Bridge and ridge top views are worth every step. Happy Trails Link INDYsee more
