“Great Stay! Everything described and more...” We had a family reunion of siblings and could not of been more happy! (the weather co-operated)! The cabin was beautifully decorated and property well maintained. We cooked in a very well stocked kitchen, with very nice cookware, sharpe knives, and great dishware. Some of us stayed the whole time resting, visiting and catching up...others made the trip to Deadwood to leave some $! Thank you we hope to be back and will ask for High Ridge again.

“Great Weekend at Eagle Vista” We had a great 4 night stay at Eagle Vista. It was the perfect place to stay with friends on Spring Break. The cabin was only minutes from Terry Peak which the skiers greatly enjoyed. It was also very close to Deadwood and we called one of the cab companies Delf suggested to bring us one night. The cabin is beautiful and the perfect size with every amenity listed on the website . The view is unbelievable and we could not get enough of it by spending hours and hours on the deck. My personal favorite part was the large hot tub that had a great view of the mountains. Thanks again Delf for the wonderful cabin and all your help. We will definitely be back next year!

“The best as always” Jonna with Deadwood connections is the best to work with! We have been working with her with all of our Northern Black Hills vacation properties. This was a first time staying at this particular property. As always it was awesome! Love the properties in the Gilden Mountain area that Deadwood Connections rents up there. Every property we had stayed at always exceeds our expectations! Thanks Jonna for a beautiful place to stay!!!

“Great time on Terry Peak!” We had a great time staying at the the Home in the Hills during the Sturgis Bike Rally. The location is great! The house itself works well with several couples. We had three (3) couples stay and it was great riding all day and then having a "home" base each evening to enjoy grilling and enjoying the quiet of the Hills! We were pleased we only had to rideon gravel except for a block or 2 on our motorcycles. The weather was a little cooler than we would like, but we still sat on the back deck while grilling and enjoying the quiet, peaceful setting of the Hills. Being close to Lead and Deadwood was a plus to not have to drive many miles to get groceries, etc. We were also very close to Sturgis and the beautiful rides available to motorcyclists. Overall, it was a great place to stay and I would like to go back out with our sons and their families one day!!

We booked this cabin for a family trip, my Mom, my two sisters and their families plus our family, 13 people total all stayed together. “Fantastic cabin in the Black hills of South Dakota” Just spent three nights at the cabin, what a fantastic find, everything about if was superb. Mary was a great host and very helpful. The setting is idyllic and very peaceful with beautiful views across the meadow. The cabin is equipped with everything you need, and is the best equipped we have ever come across. Very comfy and cosy especially when the snow came. We hope to return and explore more of South Dakota in the future and wouldn't look to stay anywhere else.

About South Dakota

Every year, visitors from all over the world come to South Dakota to explore the pine forests of the Black Hills and experience the geological wonders of Badlands National Park. They also come here to take in the majesty of the presidents' heads on Mount Rushmore, one of America's most iconic and enormous works of art.

No matter where your travel plans take you in South Dakota, it's impossible to escape the breathtaking natural beauty of this state. But don't neglect the fascinating cities, nightlife, and quirky cultural experiences that also lie around every turn of South Dakota's winding roads.

Once a rugged outpost of the Wild West, South Dakota has retained its independent spirit while stepping into the 21st century. Come here to explore the landscape, learn more about nature and history, have adventures, and make lasting memories.

Here are just a few suggestions of places to visit while in South Dakota:

  • Rapid City: Visit the Cosmos Mystery Area. In 1952, two college students went searching for a place in the Black Hills to build a cabin. They found a small area deep in the woods where a few laws of physics did not seem to apply. Since that time, the strange patch of ground has mystified visitors from all over the world.
  • Deadwood: Explore the preserved historic gold mining site at Broken Boot, or visit Saloon No 10, a museum that doubles as a bar where Wild Bill Hickock met his end.
  • Sioux Falls: Visit the extraordinary Sertoma Butterfly House and observe living species from multiple continents. Then see the USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial, where a life-sized outline of the battleship frames a collection of WWII artifacts.
  • Badlands National Park: Go hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding along the trails of one of the most popular national parks in the United States.
  • Hot Springs: Visit the Mammoth Site. Over 56 Columbian mammoths and wooly mammoths have been unearthed here, designating this working paleontological site and museum as a National Natural Landmark.
  • Pierre: Visit the capital city of South Dakota and explore state government buildings, the Cultural Heritage Center, and unique attractions like the Oahe Dam and the National Guard Museum.

Come here between May and July, rent a summer home, and see the mountains and pine forests in full bloom. Or visit in the wintertime, book a cozy cabin and go snowshoeing along the backcountry trails. During any season of the year you can easily find a perfect lakeside vacation rental big enough for your family, or a trendy downtown condo.

Knotty Pine Cabin
Spacious accommodation in Black Hills

The house has 3 separate areas for renters...the walkout basement which includes a full size dining table, a refrigerator, microwave, a large bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and a living room area with a pullout couch. There is another bedroom with attached bath on the main floor and a third bedroom in the loft with an attached bathroom and small living space with access to a small elevated deck. Since we were the only guests there, we had our choice of which rooms we wanted to use. The basement had a sleep number air mattress and the loft had a very firm traditional mattress. All of the house has decor from the 90s and the water is very heavy in iron. But, those are the only negatives I have for our 3 night stay. The owner was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. He made us feel right at home...he even took us on a little hike around his property to help my daughter look for quartz and then gave us tools to clean up what we found. I cannot say enough how much we enjoyed our stay and highly recommend to anyone who does not have a problem with tap water that has high metal content.see more

Great place in the perfect little town

This place was perfect for our family of 4. The owners are welcoming and wonderful hosts. The cabin is cute and charming the perfect place to have a cup of coffee in the front porch and watch the sun rise over Nemo mountain. We took day trips to The Badlands, Devils Tower, Custer State Park, and Spearfish Canyon. You must have dinner at the Inn and hike to the top of Nemo to reach the flag you can see from the porch! Loved this place.see more
