First, let me say we did enjoy our stay at Casa Serenita.
This part of the review may have more to do with Flipkey than with the owner, but I believe this property is listed on multiple rental sites so you may want to check it out there. I had never booked through Flipkey and while their customer service was good, the process was a bit unnerving. After booking the property I received SEVERAL emails saying my reservation had been cancelled. According to the Flipkey rep, the owner had generated multiple booking requests which were then cancelled when I completed the booking request. Neither myself nor the owner had any email verification of this. Days before our arrival I realized that I had no information on how to get into the condo. After contacting the owner she was having difficulty finding confirmation of my booking. We resolved the issue and she promptly sent information, but as you can imagine, this process was a bit unsettling.
Ok, so regarding the condo. First, some decorative changes have been made since the photos were taken which liven up the place even more (especially the bedrooms) - otherwise it is very similar to the photos. It has an unusual mix of southwest flair and Asian influence. We arrived after dark and I must say, the west side of I-10 gets VERY dark at night. Google maps got us to the right spot, but there are several buildings and in the dark it can be a little tricky to find condo. In the light, we found we were just a minute walk from the pool, workout facility and tennis courts (which need some work, large cracks!) - that was pleasant surprise. The building is in the middle of complex so the mountain views can only been seen from the parking lot not from the condo itself.
So what would make this property great. First, I understand this is a rental property. However, I've rented many properties and prefer this over a hotel because it's like a home away from home. While everything was clean and comfortable, the bath towels had stains and tears. The kitchen had most of what you might need, but the pots and pans had broken handles, parts were missing from small appliances and many of the utensils were broken as well. Some basic items I would've expected were missing - dish soap, some paper products such as facial tissue, paper towels (there were just a few on the roll there), bath soap, kitchen garbage bags (just the one in the trash can), salt (but there was pepper). Some of this may have had to do with the booking mix up. We had to contact the owner regarding a faulty kitchen light (someone came over right away to look at it) and she told us to pick up these items and she would reimburse us, even offered to pay for a bottle of wine to help us celebrate our anniversary. With just a few changes in these areas the condo would truly be great.
So, the good things. The unit is on the lower level and was pretty quiet, we only heard the upstairs people a few times with basic "living" sounds. The air conditioning kept the unit quite comfortable. We only used the master bedroom but the bed was comfortable and the added draping on the windows kept the outside lights mostly out (compared to the other bedroom). Being close to the pool was nice to grab some afternoon sun as the condo patio gets the morning sun. We were in Tucson to visit our college son and celebrate his birthday and our anniversary. Despite the short-comings in the kitchen I was able to "McGyver" nice meals and there are lovely dishes and plenty of glassware, seating for four. Overall the condo was clean.
