Schooners Deck at The Gables of PEI Stanley Bridge, Prince Edward Island, Canada
Additional Location Information
After your morning work-out, swim, or tennis match at the Pool House, stop by the School House Cafe for a fresh ground organic or specialty coffee, tea, or fresh baking. Our resort team is happy to assist you with information on all there is to see and do. Whether you wish to stay close to your villa or explore the island from tip to tip, we are delighted to help.
Right next door is the Stanley Bridge Hall, where guests enjoy the Maritimes' finest fiddlers, singers, step dancers and storytellers six nights a week all summer long.
As our friends at Golf PEI say, “Why play a course when you can play an entire island?” With 28 courses, you've parked yourself in North America's golf haven. In addition to the four championship courses just minutes from your door, a couple of stand outs include Brudenell (4 stars from Golf Digest) and right beside it, Dundarave (4.5 stars). Overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence is the crown jewel of PEI, The Links at Crowbush Cove (5 stars!).
Anne of Green Gables
Five minutes down the road from The Gables, Cavendish is a must to explore. Visit the home that inspired L.M. Montgomery to write Anne of Green Gables and stroll the lanes described in the beloved novel. Wander through Avonlea Village or the Cavendish Boardwalk and sample world famous COWS Ice Cream, chocolate dipped potato chips or select island souvenirs. Build sandcastles and memories on our magnificent beaches. Hike or cycle our tip to tip trails or cast your line on a fishing adventure - you will be surprised how little it costs to have the time of your life!
Keep your camera ready to capture the beauty around every corner and down every red soil road. Cycling trails are mostly flat, so the only thing that will take your breath away is the view. Try your hand at kite-boarding, stand-up paddle boarding, or sea kayaking. Visit craft shops, galleries, organic farms, and be an active participant in painting, photography, bagpiping and culinary classes. Sample award winning island wine and beer. As they say at the Prince Edward Distillery, "When life gives you potatoes, make Vodka!"
Just down the hill from The Gables and across the Stanley Bridge is Carr's Oyster Bar, a local legend. If you are not inclined to dig your own, visit Carr's Shellfish to pick up fresh oysters, clams, quahaugs, mussels, or lobster to enjoy at your villa or have packed for travel. They have fresh fish too, or you could hop on a boat and fish for mackerel and cod, or enjoy a scenic harbour cruise.
For the high adventure seeker, let us "hook" you up on an expedition for shark or tuna where you can keep an eye out for seals and whales along the way. Bluefin can grow to over 1000 pounds, but don't worry you'll have some help, and feeding schools of tuna, even swimming with them, are also options! The catch and release practiced by many has made for a stocked pond!
If you don't feel like cooking, dining options are endless ranging from outdoor cafes to the restaurants of some of Canada's top chefs. In the evening, enjoy a beverage on the deck at The School House Cafe, or relax on your villa porch. As the sun sets on the rolling hills of Stanley Bridge and the eagles soar above, you will regale your friends with tales of island living at its finest!
