Charming 2 bedroom cottage in Lake District UK
Part of an old Lakeland barn, this romantic and contemporary hideaway in the unspoiled village of Staveley overlooks the River Gowan and is conveniently situated to explore all the Lake District has to offer.
Sleeping up to 3 adults and an infant, the cottage has one double bedroom, with vaulted ceiling, and views onto the river and hills beyond and one single bedroom – also with river views. Downstairs, the relaxing lounge has leather furnishings, TV/DVD; hi-fi with radio, CD and MP3 player. Its full length patio doors open onto a balcony overlooking the river – perfect for al fresco dining and bird spotting!
The fully equipped kitchen has a dishwasher, washing machine and phone (as well as everything else you'd expect!) and a separate dining area.
Outside there is parking for one vehicle outside the cottage in a quiet shared courtyard and a useful secure bike store. Access to the courtyard is via a narrow walled lane. It is perfectly possible for large vehicles, including 4WD, to access the courtyard. Alternative free parking (and for guests who bring 2 cars) is available less than 2 minutes walk away in the Mill Yard.
Bed linen, towels and tea towels are all provided.
The cottage has broadband wi-fi.
The lounge has a selection of maps, books, games, DVDs and CDs to help you enjoy your stay.
The village is popular with walkers and cyclists but retains a strong sense of community and is well served by a butcher, village store, pharmacy and post office as well as an artisan baker, tea room and 2 pubs. The popular Staveley Mill yard is close at hand and has a great bike store, brewery and beer hall and a walkers' cafĂŠ which is a favourite with locals and visitors alike.
There are great walks and cycle rides from the door and, if you want to explore further afield it is conveniently placed to explore the area by car, bus and train. Increasingly, our visitors are choosing to return to the cottage year after year.TripAdvisor property ID 3634455...Read more

Additional Location Information
Staveley is popular with walkers and cyclists but retains a strong sense of community and is a ‘real’ rather than tourist village. There are often village events (e.g farmers’ market, history society evenings, artshows, cycle challenges and fell races) and a biennial carnival. The villagers are friendly towards visitors and the shops and local businesses helpful. As well as a butcher, village store, pharmacy and post office, the village has an artisan baker, tea room and 2 pubs. The popular Staveley Mill yard is close at hand and has a great bike store, brewery and beer hall and a walkers' café which is a favourite with locals and visitors alike. It is also home to a number of small businesses including a furniture maker and art gallery – both of whom welcome browsers.
There are great walks and cycle rides from the door and the cottage is conveniently situated to explore the English Lake District (it is just a few miles from Windermere). The village is served by both buses and trains and the cottage has parking for one car right outside (other cars can be left on the main road – less than 2 minutes’ walk away)

This is our 2nd stay in a River Runs By, and will not be our last. We love the comfy, cosiness of the cottage right in the middle of the village. So well situated (behind the butcher) and well equipped with all the 'white goods' you require such as a dishwasher/washing machine, you can cook as if at home! Beautiful views out nearly every window, you are mesmerised by the river under the balcony. Just make sure you read the manual to work the heating - and check that the radiators are turned on at the boiler!! Tv reception fine and wifi worked well on my ipad. Only downside is the main shower is downstairs and can get a bit chilly in the winter if you don't let the room heat up first (our 1st stay was a very cold & snowy January weekend)but the upstairs bathroom is lovely and warm! Parking is quite tight as you have to make sure you are not blocking in the village residents, also the lane to get to the cottage is tight too - but next door have a 4x4 so it can be done!
The owner is lovely and more than happy to help with any queries / return visitors
Thank you for your feedback - I am delighted you like the cottage so much and look forward to welcoming you back :-)

“Spot on in every way.”

The cottage is deceptively large, with plenty of space for me, my wife, sister in law, niece and dog! Every room is well equipped and finished to a high standard.
We visited in October so the river was in full flow and it could be heard from the master bedroom and living room which was beautifully relaxing. But not disturbing if you wanted to talk or have the tv on.
Views from master bedroom into the hills were also a delightful way to wake up.
With regards to the location, Stavely is ideal with all you need locally including a brilliant bakers, butchers, chip shop and well stocked Spar. But within easy driving distance of Coniston, Windemere, Tarn Hows, Kentmere, Kendall and much more.

This cottage was spot-on in every way. Tucked away behind the main street in Staveley the cottage was cosy , clean and comfortable. Extremely well equipped kitchen and lovely lounge with a small balcony overlooking the gurgling river. Great shower room downstairs with toilet and basin as well a bathroom upstairs. There was a large selection of Dvd's as well as numerous books and leaflets on all the activities and walks available in the area. It had a real home-from-home feel.
Staveley has everything in the way of shops, cafes and pubs. It even has it's own brewery. We ate in both of the pubs and had great value meals. Starlys restaurant is a delight and well worth booking as it only opens on Thurs, Fri and Sat evenings.

We had a lovely week in the cottage with some gentle and picturesque walks right from the doorstep.
We enjoyed watching the birdlife with the kingfisher and a pair of dippers using your balcony as a look out post, the heron was regularly in the river for breakfast and freshwater crayfish could be seen scurrying around!
The cottage was comfortable, cosy and short of nothing, with plenty of hot water and a great shower as well as a bath.
The village is lovely with an artisan bakery, coffee shop and brewery with their own excellent take on tapas.
Travelling to Windermere was a pleasure by train from Staveley and much easier/cheaper than driving and parking.
This is an excellent base for biking or hiking and the view from Reston Scar (as seen from the bedroom window)is well worth the climb.

we've stayed at a River Runs By twice now and both times it's been a fantastic experience. The cottage is beautifully decorated and cosy, with all the necessary modern features and fittings. Its always left incredibly clean and welcoming, and the location is unbeatable if you want to explore the lakes. It is small, but for 2-3 people there's plenty of space. We'll definitely be going back!

Had a wonderfully relaxing time with superb weather to boot - just what we needed. Cottage was tastefully decorated and extremely well stocked with everything you could possibly need and more! The welcome pack was also a nice touch. Loved having breakfast sitting on the balcony over the river looking at the view. Shame the brewery in Staveley didn't stay open till later though - fab beer!

We stayed for a week in this lovely cottage at the mouth of Kentmere, halfway between kendal and windermere. Lots of walks from the village and good access to central Lakes.Cottage had everything we needed. Good coffee shops, saw a fab play at the roundhouse theatre and went to Kendal for craft workshop (card making). Woulf definately return.
