“Great Little Gem!” Two of us stay in this cute apartment for 1 week in the mid of June, I've been to this charming little mountain town 4 times, and I love this apartment more than the hotels I've stayed in Zermatt before. First of all, it contained pretty much everything we need during the stay: soft abundant bed sheets and covers, dining table, sofa, cookware, TV & book...etc. there is even a balcony we can hang out with non-disturbing view to Matterhorn. The place is meticulous clean; especially the kitchen and bathroom, not big place but cozy and comfortable, with everything we needed when we were far away from home. Second, the location was great. Very quiet apartment just a bit outside the main street, away from downtown hustle bustle, but it only took a nice short walk to town center, restaurants, ski lift and supermarket nearby, away from the train station and all the noise. We could cook a lot of meals (still, we were in pricy Switzerland famous mountain village) and stayed in with a glass of wine and beautiful night view looking towards Matterhorn, or went grab a drink in the bars or a nice walk around town after dinner. The most important thing is the view; we could see the moon light shining on the mountains from our bed, dining table, kitchen and balcony, with Matterhorn of course. The sunrise view with the lights gradually lit on the mountain and Matterhorn was just unforgettable-yes we have jetlag. The owner was very courteous with all the information and direction we need when we stayed in Zermatt, there were even emergency groceries for us to use in the kitchen the first night we arrived there. We felt like we were home when we stayed there, not once-a-year-visitor in Zermatt at all. I missed the apartment and would like to go back again in the very near future.

About Swiss Alps

The Swiss Alps are a collection of high peaks, green valleys, and glacial lakes, perfect for summer hiking or winter sports. Home to the iconic Matterhorn, you certainly won’t be disappointed by a trip to this picturesque and tranquil country. To find the perfect accommodation for your Swiss Alps vacation visit FlipKey.

About the Swiss Alps

To understand the Swiss Alps, you must first get a feel for the tiny landlocked country where they speak four languages and have not fought in a war since becoming neutral in 1815.

Home of best chocolates, Ricola and the Victorinox Swiss Army knife, the country is perhaps best known for its secretive banking and a watchmaking tradition that dates back to the 16th century.

Immaculately clean and meticulously punctual, the Swiss public transport system sums up the prevailing attitude here: the fact that everything happens when it is supposed to. Luckily for you, this makes planning a vacation to the Swiss Alps easy as pie!

The Swiss Alps gained popularity as a destination during the 19th century as a part of the traditional Grand Tour of aristocrats, before becoming a top skiing destination in the 1930s after the resort of St. Moritz hosted the 1928 Winter Olympics.

During the summer, thousands of tourists arrive to hike the 23,000 well-marked trails that crisscross the mountain peaks. So whatever season you’re in the Swiss Alps, the magnificent landscape is made the most of.

What to do in the Swiss Alps

Skiing remains the number one reason to visit the Swiss Alps. You'll easily find a resort that caters to your taste. Verbier, Zermatt, St Moritz and Davos-Klosters are the old guard of Swiss skiing and rightly so—with well-groomed slopes and an après-ski scene that attracts the jet-set.

For an alternative, try Andermatt. It was the location for the famous chase scene in James Bond movie “Goldfinger” and is the training ground for the Swiss Army.

With so many trails to choose from, hiking in the Swiss Alps depends on where you will be staying. One option is to not have a base but to hike during the day and stay in a different location each night. FlipKey’s array of rental apartments and chalets will help with that!

Climb the north face of the Eiger by train from Interlaken to the world’s highest railway station at over 11,000 feet. Picture-postcard views are guaranteed!

Ride in Europe’s highest cable car from Zermatt to an altitude of 12,739 feet for spectacular views of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.

Top travel tips for the Swiss Alps

Plan your vacation to the Swiss Alps with care and stick to a daily budget as unexpected surprises can be very costly.

If traveling with a group or family, rent private accommodation and self-cater by buying all your food and drinks from the supermarket. If eating out, take advantage of lunch specials.

Before climbing high in the Alps for the awesome views, check out the webcams on the mountain you plan to ascend. There's no point in shelling out the money if clouds are blocking the view! This also applies to checking the snow situation if you plan on skiing.

Nothing on earth can compare to the majesty of the Swiss Alps and a visit there whether to ski, hike or just take in the amazing views can be deeply rewarding.

For all your accommodation needs, look no further than FlipKey where they have hundreds of apartments, cabins and chalets available to rent.

Great

Great Chalet, great location. Everything is new and working perfectly. Only point was the lack of a TV in the living room, as it would be nice to share your photos and video from a day skiing. Otherwise, perfect. … see more
Haus Roc; Superb apt, central with Matterhorn view
Fabulous!

We stayed at Haus Roc for a gorgeous week of spring skiing. The apartment is lovely: light and bright and beautifully furnished. The view of the Matterhorn from the balcony is spectacular. Nina was a wonderful hostess. Her phone call to see how we had settled in, and to offer tips on good activities made us feel well cared for, as did the lovely welcome basket. The apartment is not far from the Sunegga lift. We hired our skiis opposite the Sunegga base and then used lockers at the top, although we could have left them at the rental place each night. We highly recommend the Haus Roc experience!see more
Apartment Haus Wichje A, with Matterhorn view
nice apartment

Well maintained apartment in good condition. Great for a one week stay with 2 bedrooms and full kitchen. Would recommend to provide more sheets and towels, as well as toilet paper and soap. View of Matterhorn is stunning. It is a hike from the center of town/train station, but good exercise :) … see more

Sunrise in Matterhorn!

Waking up with the image of the icy summit of Matterhorn getting red from the first sun of the day: The epitome of Zermatt right on plate! The view of the apartment is great and so is its location: close to the center of the town, next to the river and to the paths that go up to the mountain through the woods. The place is cozy, sunbathed, soundproof, impeccably clean and with all the amenities. We practically took advantage of everything it had to offer, from the fully equipped kitchen where we were preparing our breakfast, to the touristic leaflets and the instructions that the owner had left for us, with all the information we needed. Certainly what we call "value for money". We are planning to go back, this time for winter vacation!see more

Authentic and historical

We stayed with our 3-year old. The little house is a home away from home, a place that has got an authentic feel to it that is hard to describe. Very comfortable. Full of history. … see more
