Additional Location Information

The areaPlaya Tamarindo is located on the west cost of the provinince of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, in the area known as Nicoya Peninsula. This beach is one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in Costa Rica, and hosts a wide range of life and activity, including spas, shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Tamarindo beach is well known for its great surf for novices and experienced surfers alike. It is a long beach with excellent waves near the mouth of the estuary. All this and much more make it a place full of flavor, color, natural beauty and a great nightlife! One of Tamarindo's greatest appeals is its proximity to the Tamarindo National Wildlife Refuge, which comprises 1,000 acres (400 ha) of dazzling protected forest, including abundant mangroves and estuaries. Tours of the fascinating plant and animal life can be arranged from Tamarindo, including boat and kayak tours of costal habitats. Just north of town is the Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas, which offers visitors an opportunity to see the world's largest reptile, the leatherback turtle, come ashore to lay eggs. The town of Tamarindo is a fine mix of modernist cafés and chic restaurants that blend in seamlessly with the 'Sodas' (small restaurants) of the Tico culture, offering the best of both worlds! North Americans and Europeans in particular enjoy the many elements of their own culture while still emmerced in the flavors and happenings of the Costa Rican culture. Much of the town's excentric life is outdoors on the streets, where you'll find an array of stands and roadside trucks selling fresh fruits and native wares, while horses, ATV's and people on foot pass by on Tamarindo's mix of dirt and paved roads. Whether young or old, single, married or a family group, Tamarindo magic is for everyone!
