Additional Location Information

The apartment is situated in the calm residential area of the summer and ski resort of Tatranska Lomnica, in nice surroundings in the heart of the village, with lots of greenery around. It is about 8-10 minutes walk from the local train and bus stations.
In this resort you can do sports such as tennis, skiing and golf. In summer there are fantastic opportunities for hiking in the mountains, and you can take a cable car direct from the village to Lomnicky peak (2634m), the second highest mountain in Slovakia. Lower down, you can walk straight from the village into pine forests and relax in the Tatras nature. In the resort itself there are several cafes and you can enjoy the sauna and spa facilities in one of many hotels. The Tatra’s national park museum and a botanical garden are also situated in the village. Further afield, you can visit neighboring resorts or join an organised trip to historical sites in east Slovakia or to Krakow in Poland.

Train / bus station
The small train station in Tatranska Lomnica has regular mountain train connections to the main train station of Poprad town from where there are links to the rest of Slovakia, including Bratislava in the west, and Kosice in the east.
By car:
You can park very close to the apartment building in a small side street away from the main traffic.

Where to shop for groceries
The main supermarket is located in the centre of the village and provides all necessary groceries, such as bread, cereals, pastries, milk, local cheese, butter, yogurts, frozen meals, meat, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, teas, coffees, toiletries, local newspapers, etc.
When you buy bottled beer, you can recycle the bottles in this shop and be given the small cash deposit back.

There are many local restaurants and bars in the resort and around.
In the village centre, within 10 minutes’ walk of the apartment, there are plenty of places to eat, including traditional Slovak restaurants as well as pizzerias, buffets and refreshment facilities.

Tatranska Lomnica has many slopes of all levels and difficulties, including the longest piste in Slovakia. Some slopes come right down to the village, while the higher ones can be accessed by ski lifts running to Skalnate Pleso (the Stone Lake). Ski instructors and ski hire are available.

The resort is situated in beautiful natural surroundings with plenty of paths and lakes to follow. The paths are well-marked, and there are hiking maps in the apartment. The choice is really extensive, and depending on your physical capability. You can make small hikes of 5-10 km up to 30 km per day. You must follow the rules of the national park, do not underestimate the weather and while some peaks can be reached independently, other higher and more difficult walks are only possible to do with a mountain guide. There is a list of mountain guides and there is no problem to find one who speaks foreign language e.g. English.
The three main mountain resorts in the High Tatras are: Tatranska Lomnica, Stary Smokovec and Strbske Pleso. All have excellent walks starting from them, and are connected with the Tatras mountain train which leaves from the village station, and passing through great scenery.

Botanical Garden
In the resort of Tatranska Lomnica, during summer months from May onwards there is an exhibition of the High Tatras flora in the Botanical garden. On a site of 3.2 hectares you can see more than 270 species of plants of various biotopes from the Tatras. The exact opening of the exhibition in early May depends on the amount of snow remaining in the garden after winter, although it is usually the second weekend of May. Approximately 70 species of them can be bought in the form of seedlings or seeds.

Museum of Tatras National Park
Established on 1st January 1949, Tatras National park is the oldest Slovak national park and its museum is situated in the resort of Tatranska Lomnica, 5 minutes walk from the apartment.
During whole year round you can visit the exhibition of Tatras National park (TANAP) where you can see the animals, flowers and nature of this fantastic national park of Central Europe.
