Mountaineer Chalet Fiordland

The Mountaineer Chalet is a 1960s family home, carefully restored to offer cosy comfort and a dash of mid-20th-century style. A log fire adds to the chalet atmosphere and all is set in spacious and peaceful green garden surrounds, just 50 m walk from the edge of beautiful Lake Te Anau and Fiordland National Park.

Cook in for yourselves in the well equipped kitchen (supplied with pantry basics), or eat out at one of the many great Te Anau cafes and restaurants. Comfy beds with pure cotton or natural linen sheets( freshly washed and sunshine dried!) offer a great night's sleep before your next adventure.

Additional Location Information

Mountaineer Chalet is only 50m from the shore of beautiful Lake Te Anau, on the edge of Fiordland National Park, a World Heritage listed wilderness of steep, glacially-shaped mountains, lakes and fiords. The chalet is set in its own peaceful grounds (1300sqm) with lawns, trees and borders, and offers off-street parking. A public walkway right beside the property leads to the lake, and the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre where you can find information on the area and various activities on offer. The chalet is an original sixties house, restored in keeping with its mid-century era, with a cosy log fire adding rustic atmosphere. It is a little step back to a quieter time with no phone, no TV, but wifi available by arrangement. Just plenty of privacy and space to relax and enjoy the garden. it is lovely to have dinner outdoors on a warm evening at the wooden garden table. We do have an original valve radiogram with ipod connection added, so bring your favourite tunes to listen in "old-school" style! Kitchen equipped to cook your own meals, or if you would rather eat out there are many good cafes and restaurants just a seven minute walk away in the town centre.

Te Anau offers many activities in the National Park and local surrounds; scenic tours, flights over the wilderness by helicopter, light plane or vintage aircraft, fishing (on your own or take a guide), sea kayaking tours in the fiords with all gear provided, overnight tramping on the Milford Routeburn and Kepler Great Walks tracks or any of the several easy day walks, a boutique cinema with bar, horse trekking, an exceptionally scenic golf course, visits to the glow worm caves, lake cruises, river jet, bike hire.

Te Anau is a small, friendly town of about 3000 inhabitants, where there is no hustle and bustle, no crowds, no traffic lights, just a great place to slow down and unwind. Get out and about to enjoy the natural beauty, clean air and peace in this lovely area.
