My own family in La Pergola, while other close family members stayed in la Lagnolia next door. We loved Saint Martin and would probably return one day - initially we were impressed by la Pergola and captivated by the views from the house. However, we do have some serious reservations as we had major issues with the maid who stole hundreds of dollars and an entire evening was ruined by having to deal with this issue (Including a visit from the local gendarmes). The other half of our group (In La Magnolia)had a pool that did not work for the entire stay and that meant that they had to share ours - not much fun for them when you want to enjoy your morning coffee in pool gazing at the amazing views! They also had numerous electrical problems with lights/ovens malfunctioning on a whim. In our house things were better - but the episode with the theft had left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. A vacation in a tropical paradise should not include what we had to deal with. Upon our insistence, they just happened to be there from their Canadian base, we met with the owners on the final night - they felt that replacing the $500 was all they wanted to do! When you are paying $8000 for the week I think that we wasted around $2000 in "Paradise Time" with the pool/electrical issues and dealing with the maid and the Gendarmes and the aftermath! However, the owners felt that the $500 should make everyone happy - it didn't.
In retrospect, while our group loved the island, our vacation which for two families came to around $20,000 including renting the houses, flights for fourteen, and daily expenses - we left feeling that to a large extent our stay had been ruined by the maids and the owners approach to handling the entire situation. They advertise the property as a deluxe experience - having traveled extensively I can assure it was not!

The villa is set-up very nicely for outdoor entertaining and would be a wonderful retreat for anyone who can afford to spend thier hard earned money for a special trip. Unfortunatley the property was not all it was reported to be. The pool pump did not work when we arrived on Saturday and was not able to be repaired until Wednesday. Unfortunately again they don't clean the pool until thursday and it was unusable until Friday the day before we had to leave. We were also robbed by the housekeepers on the first day they came to clean on Monday and ruined our trip for some. We had rented this Villa and the one next door for our group of 14 people and spent a lot of money for this dream vacation. The owners did however refund the money that was stolen from five different people in our group. However thier attitude about advertising that they have a swimming pool at the villa but it was not usable for our week was unacceptable. We paid for swimming pool at our Villa and should have had one or else there should have been some sort of refund. This had a major effect to our enjoyment of the Villa.

When we first arrived we loved the place. A few days after we arrived, my grandchildren reported cash missing and I lost a ring. The only people who entered the house were the cleaning crew. We called the management CO. And then the police. The cleaning people were asked not to come back and were supposed to be let go. However, after much discussion and one of the women cleaning kept talking on the phone, going from room to room. She finally asked me and my Grandaughter to check a bag (which we both had emptied). Lo and behold, there was my ring in the bag. The next morning while we were having breakfast, she entered the house and kept yelling "are you happy" and was told to leave the premises. It was a horrible experience and I found myself (widow) sleeping in one of my children's rooms because I was terrified. We met with the owners who gave the children their money back and who were supposed to fire the cleaning crew. However, the day we left, they were still across the street from our place. We have travelled a lot and this was very emotional for me. We, would never go back there again. I expected some compensation for our 2 days of lost vacation but the owners were not concerned Enuf to offer that.

La Pergola is beautiful there is no doubt about it.Unfortunately, our stay was marred by one of the maids stealing from us! She stole $500 cash from individuals and a ring from my mother! Some of the cash came from a locked safe. We spent 4 hours with the french police and then the maid came back the next day and walked right in our villa and yelled at us while we were eating breakfast! Then the neighbor from across the street tried to walk right in!! Wth?? The last day of our stay the owners came to see us. They did give us back the cash that was taken but seemed to not really care too much about what happened. We expected them to fire the maid but she was still working for them!! I have traveled all over the world and have never had a dime stolen from me. We also had La magnolia, the villa adjoining La pergola. It also was beautiful but we were unable to use the pool the entire week. I had to even argue with the caretaker that the pool had been cleaned! For the first 4 days the pool pump was broken and then when they fixed that they never cleaned the pool so we did not go in it. It was dirty. We used the pool at La Pergola. very disappointing. The owner told us this was normal for an island??!! We had several other little things that weren't right as well such as no lock on the door to my daughters room, power going in and out. There was no propane in the grill when we arrived and had to ask for that. The security gates did not work for days and after being robbed that didn't sit well. I will say that Odrc who we booked through was outstanding.Ted really seemed to care about our vacation and was very helpful. All in all the vacation was Ok. I wouldn't return to St Martin. It was nice but very small and there's too many other incredible places I want to see. The villas were gorgeous but the service was really lacking.
