Additional Location Information

We are located in a small traditional hillside village on the outskirts of the capital city of Tlaxcala (just one and a half miles from its central plaza), and 75 miles southeast of Mexico City. This is a tranquil area. Tlaxcala was officially named the safest state in all of Mexico last year, with a very low crime rate and free of the drug-related violence that plagues some other parts of Mexico. We are at a high elevation--7,500 feet above sea level--and enjoy a temperate climate year round, with warm sunny days and cool nights. The summer months brings afternoon thunder showers. We are surrounded by three beautiful volcanoes, one of which, La Malinche, is a national park which boasts camping and recreational facilities as well as miles of hiking trails on its pine-covered slopes. (Local guides can lead you to the summit.) We can take you on tours of the many regional ex-haciendas, some of them restored to their former glory, as well as ancient petroglyphs and rock paintings left by indigenous peoples. We are only 15 miles from the ancient archeological sites of Cacaxtla and Xochitecatl, and 35 miles from the huge pyramid of Tepanampa in Cholula. Nature lovers can hike or mountain bike in the surrounding hills, or visit Tlaxcala's verdant Botanical Garden.
